  1. I have fished with tcon from this board and he might have that set up, I can't recall exactly but I liked his set ups better than my Eagle Claw 9'6" diver rods. Maybe he can comment. Hey Tom what do you have?
  2. I used to have a CannonEasiTroll manual rigger which had my subtroll probe on it and I pulled a 15 lb shark weight no problem. I use the Black's release above the probe or my weights or in your case the Chamberlain release should be above the weight.
  3. Hi Ted, way to go out there, I wish I could get out there with you again, but you retired guys have the weekdays to yourselves out there. Good luck, FLX
  4. starts ok, backfires when dumping it, stalled out a couple times Sunday when we went out swimming.
  5. hi dale, boat still running crappy, marina is backed up with repairs hopefully they can figure it out over the next week and a half. Talked to guy at the dock who's having carb issues tonight, he's got a 305 in a sea ray with holley carb and I have a 350 in a sea ray with a rochester quadrajet.
  6. The lake seems to be really set up now, first off, very minimal fleas which was surprising yet welcome. Huntin trout and fireplug met me today and we were setting lines by 5:15 am just north of the drop off in south end. We worked the deeper water 135-180 on the east side picking up a good rainbow right off the bat on a stinger spoon 30' back and 70' down. The probe told us the water was a balmy 71 all the way down to 35'. Riggers were set with small spoons in glow frog, orange, and copper monkey puke. The frog fired early too, but after the morning light increased I switched to more flashers on the riggers too. The wire rods were out along with 300' copper. The copper was silent today but the wires were hot. Best set up was the 8" Pro Troll e chip white crush glow/silver with a No See Um fly on a 2 setting out 211', the white black dot spin dr with a no see um fly took a couple shots out 234'. Also had an white 11" flasher glow squid combo fire on the 52' rigger with 6 lb lake trout. A glow double glow crush spin dr and a hammer fly took a rigger hit down 45' too. The down temp settled in a little further north past whiskey point to the valley. The probe was running in the 56-58 temps with the riggers running from 40, 45, 52, 65, 70. One slider took a bow at about 20' down jumping right out of the water, the other bows were on the 40' rigger. The fish count was 11 for 12 with 3 rainbows and 8 lakers. We fished the west side and the east with a couple fish coming on east/ west trolls, and it seemed to me the best troll was south. Still having low rpm issues at WOT so we stayed south which worked for us today since the fish were cooperating from cooks point to hawks point on the west and whiskey point to white rock on the east.
  7. Not sure where you are are but Wayne Smith at Smith Metal Works in Newark NY may be able to help http://www.smithspreaders.com/index.php they build the aluminum spreaders the Thruway salt trucks run and he does custom work too.
  8. $10 each for the pole holders in the last pic I have 4 total I have to dig up the other two they are a little shorter than these but same make That's a good deal I paid $25 just for 2 of the bolts and thumbscrews to tighten the Angler's Pal in place. The pole holder is stainless steel but the nuts and such are aluminum ( mine got stripped)
  9. you obviously have the perch thing down, question? I have heard reports of guys trolling mini flashers (2"-3" with some sort of trailer) and catching perch in Canandaigua Lake. Have you ever tried this or talked to anybody doing it? I used to slow troll with an electric trolling motor for crappie with micro jigs many years ago.
  10. viewtopic.php?f=47&t=18477 check the bass forum, you will find more posts about Conesus Lake in that section since you won't have a fishfinder you should get a lake map so you at least will have some idea of bottom contours nysdec.gov should have the lake maps, google it, have fun scramp
  11. I took advantage of the free fishing weekend and took out my sister in law and her 3 kids plus one and my wife. We got a late start setting lines at 7:30 am. My favorite stinger spoon went back 30' and down 30' and fired in around 30 seconds. Nice brown right off the bat south of white rock, I ran 1 diver rod, 3 riggers, and 300' copper. Trolled north to vine valley along the east side and crossed over towards Hawk's point on the west side. It took awhile but that favorite spoon fired again down 65' with a lake trout. Not a lot of action but they had fun, and we went swimming before they had to had to head home. Temp at 30' was 65. Temp at 50' was 54. Fleas made an appearance on the wire diver too.
  12. Hi Tom those slider hits you gotta "reel, reel, reel"
  13. Scotty Rod Holder $10 585 394 2028 Mike
  14. Huntin trout took me out Sunday morning, we got started near white rock and trolled north. We ran 2 riggers with spoons starting with stinger monkey puke copper cup at 30' and favorite orange stinger slider. The other rigger had similar colors, the monkey puke fired early with a nice rainbow. Also ran 300' copper and 3 color lead core. The 300' copper took the next shot with a Hammer fly behind a lemon/ lime? spin dr boating a decent laker. Tom and I had fun but even setting lines at 5:30 the bite ended by 6:30-6:45, next time we will have to start even earlier. We did mark lots of fish in the south end most fish on east side.
  15. Holy cow Chuck!! Congrats! If it is not Mitch it is another lucky fisherman on your boat, you have got this down. Now let's see that spoon...
  16. Gambler and Hammerhead use them on Lake O for lake trout and do well right on the bottom, I have used some Max Lites and Ford fenders to no avail. One of the Seneca posters runs the peanut behind a flasher and does well, you should try a peanut behind cowbells and let us know if it works for you.
  17. Hi Tom I wish I could give you some waypoints but my GPS is acting up and I cannot get it to connect. If I had a log book I could share some dates, but I don't have one of those either. Black Point to the condos on the west can hold fish, but that time frame from my memory banks is August. In early July I would set up near Pelican Point and work to Long Point on the east side, there is a yellow cabin and sailboat on mooring near Long Point. If you want to take me out I will show you some "other" spots too. A very early trip would be in order to get to the fishing spots before light, (my navigation lights are not working) my best days on Canandaigua Lake have come very early in the morning and in July and August. We will hammer them, right now it is a waiting game for the thermocline to set up. If I went out Saturday morning I would run small spoon program off riggers orange, red, and green/silver. Maybe wire with attractors just to bring the fish into the spread. Good luck, I should be out Sunday morning.
  18. a slider or a cheater is a 6' or so piece of mono with snap swivels and you clip a spoon on one end, and clip the other end onto your mainline of the reel after you set line in release, lower to desired depth, then clip on slider which will "slide" down to about half the distance to the ball. So if your ball is at 30' your slider would settle in around 15' or so.
  19. I use Offshore and Church boards. The Church board has an adjustable weight, but I moved it forward and It didn't seem to improve much with my 300' copper. The Offshore board on the other hand has the black plastic keel (no weight adjustment) shown in your pic it looks like it's holding the foam in place but I assume the foam is epoxied and you could rotate the keel to give you some more "drive", if you know what I mean.
  20. I just put Bert's track on my boat and I like it, I like the rod holders too. My boat came with 2 Bert's holders so I too wanted to match. I got my track and 2 more rod holders from http://www.buyfishingstuff.com/berts.html, best price around for Bert's track and rod holders. Hey Jeff regarding the base issue, did you try to return it? Bert sold to Tecla a few years back and Tecla is a Michigan company in business since 1880 or something. I have to believe they would make good on the issue
  21. Heading north after waiting it out... Woke this morning to torrential downpour. Sat on the boat under the canvas til it let up a little, then rigged the boat and we got underway by 6:15 am. Set up over 165 FOW in south end. 2 wire dipsies, 300' copper, and 3 riggers. Spoons on riggers, attractors and flies on copper and dipsies. 2 wires fired first, one small lake trout, released, missed the other. Switched the "other" to a tournament tied fly to insure hook up but didn't fire again. 300' copper fired with a green revelator and chicken wing fly, lake trout just under 3 lbs. We tried deep water and shallow but just couldn't get anything steady except the rain and wind was pretty steady. Bagged it around 11:00. Tom, Dustin, and I went over to the weigh station to see the leaderboard and check out the nice brown trouts, all top 5 places this year were held by brown trout as of 12:00 noon Sunday. As a side note, I spoke to Steve Cowley, a chair on the derby committee, and we talked about the fact there is some confusion about the derby, since laverock here made a comment about it and a guy at the weigh station was commenting as well. The event is the Canandaigua Lake TROUT Derby. Not just Lake Trout. In prior years the biggest fish have typically been Lake Trout. As it happens this year the largest fish being weighed are browns. Each of the top five places were big browns, I wish I would have taken a picture of the list but 15, 14, 13, 13, 12, I believe were the top places at noon Sunday.
  22. Sutton's Hardware store in Naples has all of them, so does B & E in Ontario, I heard a guy on the radio this morning on canandaigua lake talking about all the Sutton's he ran this morning, 22, 44, 38, and so on. I have run 22 and 44, in silver, smooth and hammered and they have trebles. I have caught fish on them, but I usually use attractors and flies. I think a slow troll is preferred with the light flutter spoon action of a Sutton.
  23. a shaker laker is a small fish, usually shake themselves free in the net, this one slid right thru the net holes, the south end weigh station had the big browns in the cooler for viewing, big one was 15 lbs, all top 5 places held by brown trout as of 12:00 noon Sunday
  24. I don't have much to share except we had good weather, good times, we went 2/3, 1 shaker laker, and one 3lb eater size. 300' copper running the green Church Revelator and A TOM MIK chicken wing fly gave us the 3lber. Small spoons, the other 2, we ran shallow 15-35 over 150, and went deep 65-90 over 250. Not much on the screen from from drop off to Seneca Point. We crossed over to Vine Valley working the east side south to Whiskey Point. Copper fish came by the white rock. My GPS module is not connecting I checked all connections and wires look good. It worked last weekend, now not this weekend. And it didn't work 3 weeks ago. Any ideas?
