  1. Ate at the Sandy pond steak house for the first time a couple weeks ago. Good food and good draft beer!! Prices weren't too bad either.
  2. I run straight 30lb mainline to flashers and flys. Then I add a 20lb fluro leader for spoons and J plugs.
  3. Rambo93, Those are my four downrigger balls the sonar is tracking. There set at about 4 feet apart. That particular day all the rainbows that were actively feeding were from 20' down to 30'
  4. Fish magnet, you can usually see the thermocline on your lorwrance if you have the sensitivity turned all the way up. Mine is always set at 100%. Usually if the the thermocline is at say 80' you will see alot of clutter on the screen from the surface to 80' then it will clear up from 80'down. where it clears up is your thermocline. I can also sometimes see the arch of the current if we are trolling thru one. Its still amazes me to be able to see the fish on the sonar zoom up and follow the downrigger weights and either hit it or swim back down. This sonar pic is from one of my local lakes from early spring. You can see the thermocline is about 10' down.
  5. Thanks Jekyll, I was wondering that. I just ordered another 200' of cable for our up coming trip. I don't want to have to worry about the antenna getting ripped off.
  6. I have run a sub troll 900 now for over 10 years. Great unit, highly accurate, company is great to deal with. BUT, the coated wire does suck. I replace mine every 2 years. I do like the liquid tape idea, will have to try that. 1 battery lasts all season now because it only turns on when it enters the water. Who makes the X4?? never heard of it.
  7. ADK1, green glow spin doctors and glow green flies when its low light, then switch flys to the hammer colors......can't go wrong with that!! Then if you have a 3rd rigger, tailgun a big spoon up and behind the flasher and flys. sounds like they have been out in the 200' range lately.
  8. Ill be up the week of the 25th. Give me a shout on the radio. My boats the Jumpin Jack. i don't mind sharing info.
  9. I'll be up the week of Aug 25th. But we are staying in Port Ontario and fishing out of the salmon river for the LOC. I'm sure we will be making a trip into Oz for garafolo's subs, Ill see if I can find you. What channel are you on in the boat??
  10. ADK and Dwood, it all depends on were the fish are. I have fished off of the salmon river the last week in August for well over 10 years now. Some years they want the J plugs other years they don't. I have found once they have come in close to shore, 80' or shallower thats when its time to break out the squadrons of J plugs. Lats year they were in 100' of water and it was all flashers and flys and small stingers that they wanted.
  11. Are you fishing that area during that time period??
  12. Thanks for the update Matt. I came by to see you at the boat during harbor mess but you weren't there. I'm back up in two and a half weeks. Ill see if I can find you then. Eric
  13. Ok...I thought so. Just checking. I'm headed up there in two and half weeks to fish out of the salmon river for 7 days. Can't wait. I have fished the same date for over 10 years now. Can't beat the action in that area once the fish begin to stage.
  14. I think your right on the money Sk8ma with your theory.! And I think we are all very "superstitious" when it comes to setting up our spreads.
  15. BrokeOff, the dunes as in off of the salmon river twards Sandy pond??
  16. Chuck, Flasher/fly on copper is one of the deadliest combos for kings once the sun gets high in the sky. Total stealth with that presentation. It has taken many kings for me when none of my other rods would fire. It takes a little practice to run copper but once you figure it out, its deadly!!
  17. A few pics from last week. For some reason I can't get all my I photo pics to load here. Not sure why.
  18. This year for me slower has been better so far. nothing faster than 2.0 on my sub troll. I took a 30 pounder last week off of Fairhaven at 2.0.
  19. Just got back after two week vacation in Fairhaven. did great with a 30 pound king and 20 pound laker our biggest fish of the trip. 135 in the morning to 165 in the afternoon was the best depth all east of the chute. Green, and glow green were our best colors. King of sting spoon tail gunned behind the flashers and flys was also hot.
  20. Well I have been up all week on vacation fishing out of Fairhaven and doing pretty well averaging 4 majors per outing. But this morning when it counts all we could manage was one teen king. All the bait and hooks disappeared with the south wind his morning. By the looks of it I didn't see many other boats moving rods either. I hope the bait and fish come back before we leave.
  21. Fished from 6am till it got a little rough around 10. Went 5 for 7 on kings. East of the shoot was dead water on the sonar. We found suspended bait with hooks way. west of the shoot. Picked up a couple nice browns on sliders too. Back at it tomorrow.
  22. Because somebody hailed him on the radion and he answered.
