  1. Emily got to put all of hard work of practicing her wing shooting this summer to the test with some pheasant hunting the last couple of days. This was her first bird hunt ever and turns out she is deadly! Dog worked great and worked the cover like an old pro, even at only 14 months old.
  2. Went out yesterday afternoon. Only one keeper walleye but another nice bunch of perch. Perch had some shad in their bellies. Lake was a little sporty.
  3. Man was the fish for dinner awesome tonight! Think I am done chasing salmon for sure now.
  4. Nice to see that rod survive the "ugly stick bend" he put on it and the near blow off of the hard top!
  5. Got out for a troll this evening and ended up with three keeper walleyes and a dozen or so really nice perch. Sticks off of the riggers and a Reef Runner 150 feet behind an inline with a 2 oz. snap weight 100 foot from the plug. Fished 30 to 40 feet on the North side of Shackelton.
  6. Most of the stock rods you see achieve the 180 degree spiral wrap in 2 guides. We do ours over 6 guides. I think it does help on the torque, especially for the kids. The video attached shows fighting a couple of fish of my personal favorite rigger rods - 7 foot with spiral wrap. We don't charge any more for a spiral wrap - doesn't really take any longer.
  7. Stop at DeCesare's Pizzeria when you get there and strike up a conversation with the owner. Great food and they fish the lake for trout and salmon. Nice people and I am sure they would share some info.
  8. Here is how we do it: http://www.fishdoctorcharters.com/videos/video8W.html
  9. Had a first timer on board today to try her hand at landing her first Salmon. We set lines bright an early by 9:00 (Crack O' Noon Charters might be our new name) and it didn't take long for 12 year old Jessica to land a 25.0 pounder. Nice steady bites after that for the couple of hours we were out. Fished 110 to 120 fow off of the Big Salmon. White chip with white/green Howie was best off a rigger.
  10. Got out with the family for a few hours. Put together a good number of bites but only landed three. Fished 100 to 110 fow. Marked plenty. Here is a nice shot of a coho - Love my new Nikon!
  11. I think this was the first trip off-lead that she didn't end up in the drink! She is quite the water dog, likes to get right into the livewell. Hopefully she will be getting her third junior hunter leg tomorrow.
  12. Got out around 10:30 for a couple of hours and blundered into a couple. My solo netting techniques have improved dramatically over last year! Mexico Bay looks pretty loaded up right now. Couple hits on rigger, one on thumper, one on a dipsy. Standard stuff but food for thought - try an 8-inch Hot Chip flasher with a 27 inch leader to your fly. Whatever color combos you like. Good mid day rig for me.
  13. Any time I have been over there in the summer with a probe down, the thermocline has been down around 35 feet. Never tried for muskies in the summer myself.
  14. I stayed at Cedar Point a couple of weekends ago. Fished a bit down near Clayton. Push pin on the image is where I caught a 21" Walleye. There is about a 20 foot diameter rock sticking out of the water there with a really nice weedy shoal upstream up it. Drops off quick all around it. Caught the walleye on a black/silver F13 Rapala down 25 feet on the rigger trolling along the shoal. Caught a couple northerns just upstream from there along Grindstone Island.
  15. Windy but fun morning on board the Fishchopper!
  16. I know I'll probably get laughed off the board but this is best knife I have ever used. I am sure the other ones mentioned are great knives but I have never had to try any other knife I like these so much. First one I used for at least 3 or 4 seasons with zero sharpening. Left that one on the bumper of the truck one night in the dark. http://www.sportco.com/store/pc/Anglers ... p50222.htm
  17. I like a Captain Jacks on a 6 or 8 inch leader with either another Captain jacks or a Scotty on the other end. You can clamp the one Captain jacks down on the cable really tight (tighter than what the other release with your mono will be) and it won't hurt the coated cable.
  18. Tie an overhand knot in the wire. Then tie a nail knot with the mono up against the overhand knot. This has worked for us the handful of times that kings have taken all 1000'. Without the backing, they would have taken it! There is a video of the knot on here.. http://www.fishdoctorcharters.com/templ ... ctor=video
  19. Here is a video we put together on the topic... http://www.fishdoctorcharters.com/videos/video1W.html
  20. Fishing was smoking hot for a guy I know up there today. Get over a 100 feet of water, temp was down around 80. Run your favorite mag spoons and flasher/fly combos. Lots of kings, steelies, lakers mixed in. Watch for the shakers on any small spoons you choose to run.
  21. I would take all the evil eyes if you are willing to separate. how does $25 shipped sound.
  22. Guy I know up there did very well this morning. Kings to 14#, Browns to 12#, even a few steelhead and a lake trout. Bait has moved back in and a few kings have moved back in with them.
  23. Deep Diving Reef Runner off the inlines. Probably running around 15 feet down. Straight F9 and F11 Perch Rapalas off the riggers.
