  1. Thanks for the reply fellas but I found one.
  2. Glen, For the lakers we were running @ about 2.4-2.5. It was a year that a big laker was leading the LOC so we were targeting lakers. Started in front of Wilson trolling East in 39 degree water - 50 fow. had 41 lakers by the time got to Somerset. We found 42 degree water there and I sped up to 2.7-2.8. Caught the 8 kings in may be an hour or less. Capt. Ernie caught on to what I was doing and made me slow back down for the rest of the lakers. Date was April 29 I believe. I think we only fished about 8 hours. Fun times. That size Fishlander seems to pretty speed tolerant for me.
  3. Here is a picture of the Fishlander version of the Miami Dolphin. The picture is from a day off of Wilson Olcott were we landed 51 lakers and 8 kings fishing four rods. I bet 20 fish were on that one spoon. never had done much on it on the East end.
  4. The shark weight was just a photo prop. I don't think I have ever caught a fish behind my Shark weight. I had one of those days when I couldn't catch anything with the Shark weight down but lit them up after I pulled it. After that I just said the heck with it. Never have given them much of a chance I guess and I know a lot of really good fisherman swear by them. We do use the 12# Salmon tracker weights. They are fish shaped and are probably 14-15 inches long. Captain Ernie's have actually been professionally painted by a taxidermist to resemble brown trout. They are pretty much all he uses for his side riggers during the summer. He had a couple painted up as smallmouth base and a yellow perch for back when he was musky fishing. Looked really cool and they certainly don't seem to hurt his spread at all.
  5. I don't generally use any crimps. You could use them to clean up the tag end of the knot, but you don't need them for strength. I added a photo of my probe leader and I also lenghtened out the distance to the overhand knot on that so that my modified probe attachment rides on the doubled up cable. For the Cannon probe I leave the tag end of the knot I tie in the coated cable long enough to add an electrical connector to and plug into a connector on the antenna.
  6. You won't have any issues with the wire line knot on the regular or coated cable. Captain Ernie and I have used it for at least 5 years on every rigger termination, including the probes. Never seen one break. I have had cables break at a Klincher before though.
  7. This was taken by my neighbor's son in the Homer area: http://huntingny.com/forums/index.php?topic=2845.30
  8. I bought a Garmin 541S last year and really like it. I have always had Garmin fish finders and had great luck with them. Never have had a single issue with one. The one I bought came preloaded with Lake O maps and you can buy the Blue Chart Vision card for lots more detail. My $.02, I wouldn't rule out a Garmin.
  9. He sells them and I have also seen them at the Bass Pro in Auburn. I always buy the stacker release and make two regualr ones out of it. Back to back Capt Jax releases make the best stacker release going. Just clamp the one on the rigger cable tighter than the mono. Works well on the coated cable too.
  10. Thanks again for the bow Gray. We got to give it a try this morning and it is really nice.
  11. I am looking to buy a used youth bow with adjustable draw length (18"-23")and poundage (15-25). We have a Bear Brave 2 that isn't cutting it. Looking for one that has a real bow string that can handle standard nocks. The Bear Brave 2 has a one piece nylon coated cable for a string that is pretty cheesy. My 7 year old just started his archery class last Saturday and seems to really be into it. If anyone has something laying around that they could part with I would gladly take it off your hands. Thanks.

  13. 55#, 12V, 52" - Used one season and comes with quick release deck plate. Excellent Condition. Asking $300
  14. We run the larger dipsys with no ring on a three setting off the side riggers as a stacker. We set them out 40' and hook them to a stacker release up 20' from the weight so that run even with the ball. Run your standard stuff off of the ball. Need to let them down slow so the dipsy doesn't spin and tangle. Absolute killer on summer browns.
  15. I don't want to get in the middle of this but I do know Bob pretty well as he was the one that took my father under his wing when he was guiding up there a few years back. Bob is very serious about protecting the fishery up there and I'm sure they did everything possible to release the fish. They would even utilize the wash down pump to keep any fish on deck wetted down, especially around the head/gills area. As far as their apparel goes, it was a high of 55 that day and the heated cabin is only steps away. Just my $.02, take it for what is worth.
  16. FWIW, I use the 535 size for my king rods. These reels on a Shortstick absolutely smoke the kings.

    Perch rigs

    Thanks for the info fellas.

    Perch rigs

What kind of setups are you guys using for the perch? I took the kids out on Oneida on Sunday and had to fish the East end because of the wind. Not familiar with the area but fished where some other boats were fishing and didn't get any. Didn't see anybody else get any either so maybe they were done biting. I was trying drop sinker rigs with two minnows and jigs tipped with minnows.
  19. They have always been solid for him. Even though he is on the Penn Pro Staff, I know he would never run anything that wold not work to his expectations. He runs up to 15# weights with the temp probe on them. They seem very strong and fast enough to me. They are faster than standard Big Jons, not as fast as some of the high speed riggers out there.
  20. FWIW, the same model rod was used in the following video: http://www.fishdoctorcharters.com/videos/video4.html

That was us Mike and I will definitely take you up on your offer.

    Night Eyes

If this was Saturday night, I think I witnessed this. So know I know that every time the big light came on Mike was landing a walleye! We got skunked but I'll be the first to admit I have a lot to learn about catching green fish.
  23. We usually personalize the rods. What did your rods have on them for a label? Should be a dead giveaway if someone comes across them. That one piece, 9 footer is probably one of a kind.
  24. Hot setup for the Fish Doctor lately has been 42" leaders behind slashers. Man-o-war sushi behind the blue angel has been best.
  25. And an old Avery Assassin did the trick. Good luck finding one of those!
