  2. i have an extra new ducer for a Garmin 240 with a speed sensor. Not sure if it is dual frequency but I can check if you think it compatible with your ff.
  3. I didn't mess around with the spoon too much, probably could mess with the spoon and get it going. Good Luck
  4. I tried this a few years ago on some spoons with some mylar. Killed the action of the spoon.
  5. Not intending to hijack this thread - If anybody is interested, I'll be at the Cicero Gander Mt Thursday night at 6;30 PM, giving away the Fish Doctor's Spring Brown Trout and King secrets. Come see a picture of Unkeljim!
  6. I believe most swivel tips spin all the way around. Not worth it in my opinion becasue you still have to have the rod postioned right so the line is on the rollers, regardless of what the tip is doing. I still recommend the twillys on the custom rods we build, rollers or not. I have personally gotten away from the rollers just to avoid the hastle of worriying about having the rods postiones right in the holders. We put gimbal butts on the roller rods, but then the rod has to put in the holder so the reel is towards the bow, in order to keep the line on the rollers. Tough to see the counter. If you do want rollers, the ligthweight Aftco rollers are the way to go. Seven footers all the way, makes life a lot easier in my opinion. I know my wife and kids appreciate them!
  7. Take an identical empty reel, spool on the power pro, then your mono. Then spool it back onto the other reel. Count your passes when you are reeling on the mono. Then you'll have the recipe for that reel for future use.
  8. Glen, I think the one he is looking for is "The Best Brown Trout Story Ever Written" from the April 2002 Issue. I can email the article to you if you want it.
  9. Stan, I dropped a hardcopy of the article I had previously emailed you into the mail this morning.
  10. For those interested, here is a little more info about how we rig our thumper rods: Dodger needs to be a Luhr Jensen or Les Davis. They consistently begin to rotate at 2.7 mph. My best leader length is 54 inches, including a snubber, and an 18 inch dropper to the weight off of kind of a 3 way swivel rig. With a 16 oz weighton 20# wire, 300 feet of wire will put you down around 100 feet. Use the thumper to determine your trolling speed. When it rolls you are at 2.7 mph down speed, check your surface speed or GPS SOG when it rolls and you can then vary your speed on you electronics for that given direction. Need to check speed in each direction you are trolling. By far the most accurate down speed unit I use, and it catches fish. My best combo is the Trash Can/Green Stripe dodger with a silver green Howie Flies. Chartreuse and green beads in the fly.
  11. She was five in this video. 2nd one she had got that year so she was an old pro by then.
  12. Captain Jax for the Fish Doctor crew. Pinch pad release that you can set as hard as want. Similar to the Cannon's but they don't randomly fall apart and the have nifty little tabs to release the jaws that hold the release clamped.
  13. I like to use 50# leader. When my brother was down from Alaska a few years ago, he developed a hook setup that has become the standard for many guys and at least one manufacturer. We called it the tournament tie and it is a tandem snelled hook setup. Rear hook is a No. 2 treble and the front hook is a 4/0 or 5/0 beak hook. Beads of your choice go in between the two hooks.
  14. Nice memory there. Thanx for sharing.
  15. Your post said you talked to Jeff, so I assumed it was me and you were thinking about our converstation about Captain's Weekend. Oh well, he still probably had a couple people there. I'll keep you guys posted on the Captain's Weekend thing but right now it looks like I'll be doing his seminars for him.
  16. I was gone all weekend and just saw this but I was talking about the Captain's Weekend in March Rich when I told you that I might be filling in for him. Hope he still had a good turnout.
  17. I have a V4 Crossflow powerhead and a lower unit off of a 1987 OMC motor. Powerhead is fine except crankshaft splines are stripped. Lower unit has slightly bent skeg and upper drive shaft has stripped splines. $200 for everything. I am in the Tully area and would prefer they get picked up if enyone is interested. BTW, make sure you don't ever run any engine with a slightly bent prop. I learned the hard way.
  18. I have a couple old motors with intact gear housings that you can have if you want. Motors were slow but I think the gears, etc are fine. PM me if you are going to be in the Tully area anytime soon.
  19. There is a guy looking for Thompson on glangler. Check the Boats for Sale section.
  20. Nope Bill, same ole' 209. I fished with the Penn engineers in 2006 and they told us the good news/bad news scenario - Good news- "we are coming out with a linecounter", Bad news (for trollers at least) "it is on the 209 frame" The 209 is really a mainstay of their saltwater jigging/party boat reels. Now the party boaters can drop their rigs to a desired depth I guess.
  21. Try the TX-6 Church boards. They work well for me for that presentation. Deadly method.
  22. TeamHelgoya, I have a quick question for you. the finest linecounter I have ever used is the Penn 875 Digital Line Counter, which was actually made for them by Ryobi. I see there is a Ryobi Digital Linecounter, model AD SS 700 that is available in European markets. Have you ever tried one of these or do you know anybody that has. I would be interested to know how they perform. Thanks.
