  1. Only problem I have had is with the fancy exensive hooks, I used the round bend VMC nickle hooks and they have been good. I am slowly switching to 3/0 double hooks for my flies, seems to work better than the tournament rig adn boy they are strong.
  2. Why do I torture myself!!!!! So I decide to add a #45 300' copper and run to Gander thinking they might have this and some hooks for a magnum spoon. HA HA HA...ZERO again. Hooks sold out, but they do carry copper just not 45. Teh price on the Power pro backing....ABSOLUTELY incredible!!!!VERY HIGH. Do youselves a favor, I used GLOUTDOORS again.
  3. only thing Iwill buy at gander nowis prokings because they are the only ones with them, if I could find them online then I would buy them there. BOYCOTT GANDER
  4. Saif Sr buying all green dolphins available??? Things that make you go HMMMMMM!!!!
  5. I do, 50lb PP and it picks up fleas but a quick slap they come off, if they are thick we pull up and check them often. I like the fact that it saws the fleas. All in all I like it.
  6. and I thought the only retards were the ones that stocked the Gander in watertown!!!. You would think....hmmm...we give a charter discount, lets ge them to help us stock... OH< YES< the gander in water town offers 10% off for charter Captains.
  7. Headed out NW of the Stoney Light wall in 140 FOW,. 69 degree surface temp and some confusing currents. We trolled around the pack and headed deep, we lost on of our fish in 155 SW of the wall but all in all we could not get her going. I would have given a testicle for a down speen and temp sensor….just kidding but it would have helped. There could have been a whale under the boat and we would have not known, for some reason the fish finder is not working over 100 FOW and gave some really strange readings and went batty when we touched the down riggers. The weather was beautiful. We managed 1 for 4. Mags spoons and the ole green Dolphin by Siggs. One fish still has one of my spoons…..and the fluorocarbon is Gone….three in two weeks is enough, P-line floro coated is what I am going with. CPT Tom’s son got his first king but I do not think he or my daughter are hooked on fishing. FYI: The double tuna hook idea on the flies….I have never seen hooks buried so deep in a king.
  8. I gave up on Gander a few weeks ago, Now I go in to see if they took any of my advise, WELL, they have not!!!!! I shot in pulaski exclusively now or off the internet.
  9. To find out exactly: I take the time to run the dipseys out with and without rings unitil they hit the bottom. So if we are fishing in 70FOW, I will run a flasher fly out and see when it hits.
  10. If you launch out of stoney creek the run is not far 3-5 miles if the fish are there, if they retreat to the basin you are looking at a 9 mile run. I personally do not fish the shipping lanes. A GPS and hotspot map help. Best advice I can give is DO NOT DRIVE CIRCLES in the pack, what a waste of time. Find fish outside of the pack and do not leave them. I had to laugh at the guys this weekend that were doing tight circles around each other and I while we fished outside of them about a mile and picked up 6 fish in an hour. I use #1 dispsy divers, if you are just starting rig up some power pro, I use #50, that is a lot of tackle to trust to lighter line. Okuma 10ft Mooching rods work well and they are only 25 bucks at dicks. the setting depends on how deep we are fishing. A line counter reel is a must. Less that 50 feet I use 3, most of the time 2 and when they are down deep 1. A good suggestion is Dan Keatings books which you can get at bobsoutdoors.com, the salmon one is newer and even an old fisherman like myself can learn new tricks. His first book is good for a beginner.
  11. Chrome green for green flasher, clear or black for others.
  12. Wow, what a day on the water, we braved the weather report and found the lake fishable The water has warmed up a bit, found 67-69 degree water. We stopped to check out hot spot from two weeks ago and the water was too warm, we jumped to what we were guessing is 130 FOW (fish finder was not healthy today) SW of the fleet. Riggers fired 80-100 feet down. A prototype spoon I have been working on was on fire!!!!, I will have to make more as it is mangled. Another I call a purple demon was firing and is still in a nice king. Purple thunder with or without glow ladders worked great too. Dipseys fired with 250-300’ out, green echip with a siggs green dolphin fly fired consistently. They started off hitting light then really knocked our socks off, we had several doubles too. We went 8 for 14, two break offs, and three lost fish on our dipseys. Ok, that is 13, oh, the last fish was knocked off by my captain  when he tried to net it during a double. Honest mistake or was it but a few minutes later a rigger fired and he pushed me out of the way and grabbed the rod, :?: (just kidding) and with our 6th keeper we headed to breakfast.
  13. We heard the coastguard talking to the guy that rescued the man. don't forget to pray for him, I only caugh tparts but is sounds like he tried to save him but could not.
  14. I had the pleasure of visiting both Narby's and the captains cove, Advice: take lots of money they a huge selection andforget GANDER!
  15. Dan, I have been salmon fishing for 25 years, this area is tough but once you figure it out you can catch a few. SWR produce well on riggers up here, atleast for us they outfished regular rigger rods 5 to 1 last year. I have a feeling once the water settles the kings will have moved deeper as the water gets very warm out there. I think they will just slide closer to the basin off the back side of the wall. Biggest thing up here is fighting the SW West winds all the time, lets hope for calm weekends. The eastern hotspot map is pretty good, PM me your email address and I can send you some GPS coordinates if you need them. Good luck, Brian
  16. Stayed off the lake yesterday because of the weather report but chanced a trip this morning, the 5-15 knot forecast was just a slight breeze. Unfortunately, the lake had some good rollers and we only had a short trip before my buddy got real sick. The lake was laying down real good but once you are sick your sick. Had some action just south of the Stoney point light in 70FOW 25-35 down on a SE troll, black and white spoons and a pink alewife glow blue spoon by Renosky. This was just not our morning, went 1 for 3, landed a shaker king and returned him to the lake. Had a surface temp of 61 Oh, Yea, the fleas are starting
  17. The lake was again awesome yesterday far as weather. We worked from stoney creek norths to the wall from shallow to deep. Only picked up a nice brown and lost one. We marked a lot of fish around the wall and in the 40-50 foot areas, water temp was 58.8 on top and just full of pollen. Our ole reliable worked again on the rigger, NK black with white cup and money tape on it. Heard they were still catching browns off the sands
  18. The lake was great yesterday so we finally got out again, Fished the sunken island off of the light. We worked in out and all around. Not many boats out early but we went in at 1000 and the boats were out in the trench and down south as well, not much on the radio for action. Water temp was near 59 close to shore and got 52 just past the island. there was a wicked current too. Picked up a brown on top of the island and went 1 for 2 as we slide off the NW side in 110 to 150 FOW in the 52degree surface temp: 10 foot on the rigger and a 60 foot dipsey fired but it came up dry. Greens spoons. The NW side and the deeper side of the trench had bait in it but marked very few fish all day. Also had a nice thermocline about 35 down. Thought there would be more reports on this area from this weekend but I am sure it will be quiet like last year.
  19. Does anyone have the driections for a GTM-40?
  20. Went out late yesterday to enjoy the 1 foot or less predicted waves, what a surprise to find them with 3 foot swells but the lake did calm for a while. The water temp is way up from last week, 59 in 30 FOW and 55 out to 130 FOW. No down temps as my gauge broke. For us the lake was dead. Trolled from 50 out to 130 then back all the way in to 20FOW. from 85 FOW to the harbor there were fish and bait all over, bottom to top. Only release we had all say was in 125FOW down 50 on the rigger.
  21. Got out this weekend and trolled two areas: From Stoney Creek north 7-30 FOW: NOTHING water temp on top a cool 44.5 and nothing warmer than 45.8 Tooled out from gravel bay to the trench to from shallow to deep....marked nothing. Also fished stoney to the south out to 30FOW, Marked a few out deeper 10ft down, water was up to 46.7 but no takers. The water was crystal clear, seeing the bottom in 30FOW. Good thing is no issues with the boat so I think we are ready to go for the season minus the price of gas.
  22. I have a question about about steering on a Penn Yan boat with a 1983 OMC sterndrive. The steering is stiff and not very responsive. This makes trolling a chore and driving at slow speeds. Basically th eboat is all over the place. Anyone else experiance these problems? Any ideas?
  23. WE had a bad trip too, everything from running up on a sand bar, engine problems, line tangles and sea sickness, not to mention a bad weather report.
  24. Thanks guys, Took my daughers out of the Chomaunt boat launch and got some bullheads. They had a blast.
