  4. Hi all, I am looking for info or advice on the Sandy Creek North Pond area. Look like it is pretty central for fishing the east side of the lake. Slips are available adn we are thinking about getting one. My buddy and I fished out of Henderson last summer and 1. it was a heck of a ride to get to the lake and 2. it gets hit pretty hard by the wind. Thanks in Advance Any info is greatly appreciated
  5. Do you all dip smelt in Lake Ontario? I live on the eastern side if anyone has any info in it. I used to do this when I lived in Wisconsin, many beach fires, many beers and tons of smelt when the run was on, when it was not we still had the beers.
  6. 1. Last year caught a 5 inch yellow perch on a NK28, in the mouth? 2. Caught a seagull casting for kings when you could fish off the nuclear plants, dam thing bit me. 3. I caught a duck off the peers that dove after my bait. 4. Hooked a seal off of Monterey, CA drifting for Halibut on the bottom of 60' of water, man can they fight, we chased it so I coudl get some spiderwire back and the hook pulled out.
  7. good point above on the treble hook, I had th eopportunity to go tuna fishing a while back and something that got me was my buddy swore by double hooks, Now granted the flies were huge!!!. WE had a hard time getting the fish off those double hooks were barried deep. I posted a question on GLANGLER with no results, Wonder if these hooks would work on salmon flies?
  8. #5 limegreen or pearl J-plug naked 10 foot back on riggers trolled slow is hard to beat for big big big lakers just off the bottom.
  9. I fillet mine ann freeze them skin on, they will not freezer burn on that side if it gets a little air, had some bad foodsaver bags last year. Far as cooking, I leave the skin on and BBQ as is with out turning, if the skin burns no biggy, seems to keep the meat moister too, when it is cooked, flip it in a pan, take off the skin and lateral line and you are in business, never had a problem with scales. if you want to do something else, just skin it and do what ever you have in mind.
  10. Yes, Call, because Okuma will not answer emails, anothe reason to get Penn
  11. I plan on having a two special rods dedicated for browns maybe three with light line, the rest, I am spooling with 25lb ande and will splice in 15 or 20 lb leaders of P line floro coated line, I was not impressed with 100% floro carbon last year.
  12. Same here, too bad that someone would want to hack a fishing site!!!!
  13. Irish, Thanks, I am still adjusting, the wire I am used to cut the eyes bad. thanks
  14. Anyone got any info on drag upgrades. I have modified Penn reels but not Okuma. Specifically looking to upgrade a couple of Magda 30's.
  15. If you want big lakers, plug them with #5 jplugs trolled slow, I use rubber bands and very short leads. 5-10 feet max. of course I could pull in 10lb weights if I wanted the fight of a laker.
  16. So you guys do not use roller eye for wire? don't they get cut? I am just getting back into this.
  17. I have the IFinder Hunt Plus....It is awesome. They have a great serve deparment too. Mine only take two batteries and never had a problem with it. If you get the 512MB card you can load a lot of maps, I mean more than you cna use. We di dnot have a mount for it yet in the boat, My buddy tried to dent tune mine off of the floor. Back light did not work. I called lowrance and mine was 1 month out of warranty, guy said send it in and we will look at it, I got a new one FREE!!!!!.
  18. Erby you are a man after my own heart! I am a Satellite Microwave guy soon to retire from the Army. I have fixed many up and down coverters, so I know what you are talking about brother. I am a 21 year veteran and still on active status here at Fort Drum, well, for at least the next year then I will hopefully be retired running a boat again in Wisconsin, noting agains Lake Ontario, but I have family there. Off the subject: You all are not messing around here, be luck you still have big Kings. WE have a few but most WI 4 year olds are averaging 15lbs.
  19. I am finally back fishing the big lakes...THANK God!!!! I run out of henderson (I know..long run) and have serious blow back problems with standard balls, mainly because of depth and current. I used weights on a charter, many, many, many, years ago in WI that looked like tear drops with metal rudders which I will neither confirm nor deny putting shiney tape on, but think they made a difference. So now I want to try Shark weights. Oh, Yea, they are in production now according to the web site so should retail for about $55, not bad when you firgure we are spending almost $7.00 for super glow spoons. OK, three questions for you all out there on the new shark weights. 1. 12 or 15 pounders? 2. Do you run the same leads or shorten them like the shark weight website states to do? 3. If not sharks then what? Why? Thanks, Big_Fishman
  20. 1. In my precharter days My dad and I went out on Lake Michigan in a small runabout. I took my buddy Mike with us one day. Mike is not the the most motivated person. We learned he could not drive the boat staight at all. Well, we got a nice king on and it was my dads turn to real one in. Mike goes up to drive and I am on the net. well, I get ready to net the fish and the outboard starts getting louder, next thing I know I am heading for the drink and the boat is taking off. My dad grabbed me by the belt and the fish was pulled out of the water like skier and broke the line, we looked up and Mike had fallen asleep on the throttle. Needles to say he did not drive after that. I look back now and it is funny. 2. Before I was legal age to drive I convinced my mom to take my brother and I out in the boat. All she had to do was drive as she was afraid of the water. She kept shutting the depth finder off and heading towards shore because the deep water scared her. We finally managed to get a fish on and she tries to cut the line because we were scaring her. We never asked again. 3. My fishing buddy and myself were fishing off of the Kewaunee discharge in a small 14 foot aluminum boat casting for kings in August. You name it we did it. One trick was grabbing the other guy's lure as they casted. Well, my buddy, Tom, was teasign me as I retied by dangling his lure in from of me and getting me to react like he was going to cast. Well, I just ignored him. The lure was in my face again so I ignored it like before except this time he is casting. The Mr champ finds my eye brow. WEll, Tom thinks I am holding on to his lure with my hands so he starts pulling all the time looking away. I finally got his attention and we both got the giggles as we tried to get it out. It was in to the barb. We ended up pulling it through and clamping the barb down. The other boats just looked in amazement, and in few minutes we were fishing again....
  21. I did my full core on a Convector 55. IT HOLDS A LOT OF line but makes short work of the core.
