  1. Guy, they are referring to the Niagara river area and west into Canadian waters. Guy Smith ???? From meeting at Gale Center ? Jerry RUNNIN REBEL
  2. There will be 120+++ trawls this spring. Going on now, between 3 boats (USGS & NYSDEC & OMNRF ) at SAME TIME in U.S. waters and Canadian waters for the 1st. time EVER . This will estimate how many alewife were produced in the 2015 year class. The hydrocustics survey is completed near the end of July This has been done by NYSDEC & OMNRF in the past. This year the USGS boat will participate hear also, Giving us 3 boats surveying again at the same time LAKEWIDE.......This survey estimates total alewife and rainbow smelt abundance and distribution. Lake Ontario has never had this much cooperation between agencies/counties on a WHOLE lakewide survey conducted at the same time (minimizes chances of bait fish "being some where else at time of trawls" ) and the Technology is UNBELIEVABLE now and getting upgrades constantly (especially in hydrocustics & side imaging shooting towards shore and at rocky substrates previously non trawl able ) This years bait assessment will be much much more accurate. 3. Pat will be missed. A TOP competitor always and a nice guy. Condolences to his friends & family. And Condolences for Daryl & Nathan his tournament family. Jerry
  4. Thanks, That is even better with audio. Everyone should see the most recent/updated information on Lake Ontario out there and these post should really help. I am going to post more presentations from The Great Lakes fishery Commission on here also. Jerry
  5. I attended the symposium and wanted to share the featured power point presentation with everyone. I'll try to answer any questions the best I can. Jerry 1-LakeOntarioSymposium2016-StateOfTheLake-LaPan-Printversion.pdf
  6. The YOY trawls has not started yet. VERY SOON with in days . The methods used today are same transections of the lake /with same time frames. EXCEPT they use updated modern Hydrocustics that count any and all bait from surface to bottom. Todays bait trawls are more accurate than the "old days" of bottom (no see-um) trawls. Jerry RUNNIN REBEL
  7. I will be attending this meeting April 21st on the Canadian side. I will post back here the results & Info. I will also be attending Great Lakes Fishery Commission meetings the rest of this week in Canada also. Then I finish up at the Lake Ontario Salmon Symposium in Mississauga/Toronto area on this Saturday. I have already made new contacts from across all the Great Lakes, Including Scientists-biologists and many Government agencies. Don't pre-judge the outcomes of these meetings just yet. As Rick has stated there will be some "good representation going from the states" It will consist of 12 Canadian and 12 U.S. (lake wide represented) stake holders. Jerry RUNNIN REBEL
  8. THANKS GUY"S Having your daughter fish her very 1st derby/tournament with Capt. DAD and Uncle and cousin is an awesome experience. Then to have your daughter ask dad to get off the fish cooler so she can open the cooler lids to see her fish AGAIN.........I only hopes it lasts in this kid crazy world we live in Jerry RUNNIN REBEL
  9. Great report, with pictures and "strategy execution details" to boot. Jerry RUNNIN REBEL
  10. Now till the next 8 weeks or so (till weeds on surface pack on shore) is the best time for me to catch perch from shore. 1000's swim in schools along shore line this early on Lake Ontario open water shorelines. Best results are early AM when the lake is crystal clear and flat glass calm. Hardest part is targeting the bigger size perch. As soon as bait sinks to depth of perch the smaller aggressive size fish hit first. I use bigger baits (spinners or small plugs) to limit the smaller fish hits. Jerry RUNNIN REBEL
  11. Thanks . You to Bill. I think you have a few youth divisions winners yourself running around your house. Jerry RUNNIN REBEL
  12. My daughter Morgan with last year's Rainbow youth division winner and placed 11th in adult division summer LOC derby. Get your kids involved. Jerry RUNNIN REBEL
  13. Glad to finally here from you Jay. Me and your interpreter were in final stages of smuggling into your room fishing equipment. Welcome back. Jerry (your portside Knucklehead)
  14. I was driving Upper Niagara River-Buffalo Harbor-Lake Erie Yesterday and only slush ice with a few small ice berg's left. Plenty of "green water" from Niagara mouth to east of Webster park. Jerry RUNNIN REBEL
  15. Brian, Fishing was closed on the Ganaraska when the Ontario ministries of Natural resources did there egg collections. Tons of fish to choose BUT......their egg eye up was not so good %73 area I believe????? So the US helped them out with our surplus I believe also. Capt. Jerry RUNNIN REBEL
  16. Nice turn out at last night's meeting, around 65-75 people. A very accurate presentation was given showing that %90 of the Kings are in %20 of the lake any given time and constantly moving. While the U.S.A. had poor king numbers returning lake wide to US streams & rivers, the Canadian side had great numbers of fish returning(especially in the Ganaraska river) I have witnessed myself the healthy/predictable staging salmon year after year off most every Canadian port when fishing the Canadian tournaments. Biggest concern is we need to see YOY-Young of the Year alewife in 2016. If not , it will be 3 years in a row of VERY low numbers/future recruiting class. That would put us in "Unchartered Waters never seen before on Lake Ontario" Hopefully we will see YOY this spring with the short/mild winter we just had. Alewife stomach survey showed content of lower level normal food chain diet, No Adult alewife feeding on smaller alewife fry. VERY GOOD meeting with plenty of time for questions before-during and after meeting. I look forward to attending the Rochester meeting also and advise Everyone to try and attend a meeting this year. Capt. Jerry RUNNIN REBEL
  17. Good tipp Vince on how NOT to end up with COLD French onion soup.............. See you in Rochester. PS: Come by early.... I have not had a WII injury since Jerry RUNNIN REBEL
  18. I am heading to State of the lake meeting tomorrow in Lockport. Hope there is a decent turn out. Even Canadians coming over to meeting. Jerry Running Rebel ifishy With 3 meetings total, I doubt they would stream line any one of them, With subject topics & questions usually being local/area specific. EXAMPLE: Tomorrow night will have Niagara river Musky info and Oswego meeting will have east end Bass Info.
  19. I will ask Capt. Larry this weekend............................... Capt. Jerry
