  4. Hi Les, thanks for the walmart link. Unfortunately, it's too long for NY regs. I can't seem to find one 25' long or less. best, dre
  5. Excellent condition. Barely used. With owner's manual. $300. I live in Canadice, NY. It is very heavy so it will need to be picked up.
  6. I'm also having trouble finding a place to buy a gill net (not a cast net) that meets NY DEC regs (max. 25', max 200 square feet, max 1" mesh). Do any of you know where such a net can be purchased? thanks, dre
  7. Hi all, i have been out several nights with lights and have attracted 100s if not 1000s of alewives to about 4 feet beneath the surface. I have been unable to get them with a dipnet. Then i tried Sabiki rigs and caught only 6 in 2 hours. What is the most effective way to get a good haul of alewives (again, i am able to draw them to my boat with lights, i just don't know how to get them IN my boat). I wish i could use a throw net (those were so effective when i lived in Texas). I am surprised to see that gill nets are allowed for alewives. I have never used a gill net. I presume they have weights on the bottom and i could just let it down, attached to my boat? I appreciate any input on how to catch alewives. thanks! dre from the DEC fishing regs: GEAR FOR TAKING BAITFISH In addition, alewives are the only fsh that may be taken as follows: Gill nets: maximum length 25 feet, maximum area 200 square feet, maximum size 1" bar Anytime Canadice, Canandaigua, Cayuga, Hemlock, Keuka, Owasco, Otisco, and Seneca lakes.
  8. I fish Hemlock almost exclusively. Any help will be much appreciated andre
  9. if you were to use lights at night, what depth of water would be best? I want to try this on Hemlock. thanks, dre

  11. Hi all, I know some of the trout regs changed in NYS but my quick read is that they haven't changed for the fingerlakes - am I correct about that? thanks, andre
  12. I don't need docks to launch, but I'm guessing it's still frozen over. Does anyone know for sure? thanks, andre
  13. i've hunted ducks and pheasants and rabbits with an 1187 for 30 years, but it's not the fastest-swinging gun. I would love to get a lighter 12 ga O/U. I'm no gunhead, so i've never even heard of CV. What do most of you think of the CZ Upland Ultralight O/U? thanks! andre
  14. there are our political representatives.... un$*&^$(&real! dre
  15. did the DEC say how many brookies were stocked in Hemlock in Oct? and was that the first time in many years? thanks, andre
  16. 10-15 years ago there used to be a half-way decent population of eyes in hemlock (stocked by the wayland gun club) but it's been so long since any stockings that eyes in there are EXTREMELY few and far between. But i suspect there are a few big ones cruising around... dre
  17. that looks like a brown - again, based on the tail LLs have a forked tail. Browns have square tails andre
  18. I also thought it was a laker at first, but that square tail seems to demonstrate that it's a brookie! so cool to know there are some still in there! and thanks for the release! andre
  19. Hemlock was not frozen until last night. Be safe out there andre
  20. Hi all, I have 2 Trail cameras that take photos but the "shutter speed" (i don't know the correct term) is so slow that unless the deer is in front of the camera for about 5-6 seconds, it doesn't take a photo. I know this because i have walked passed it numerous times without it taking a photo of me. If I spend 5 or more seconds in front of it, it takes a photo. Can you guys recommend a good trail cam for a guy on a budget? thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving, andre
