Well.... Here it is again.... New venue, some new teams... Some old competitors. The field is 44 boats. Great job guys and gals. We are extremely pleased with the turnout considering the high water screwing up the docking/ launches.
So in a couple hours we will blast off for the 3rd Annual MCOC... Be Safe...Use common sense... And have a great tournament.
**** Give yourselves plenty of time to be in line NO LATER than 3pm *****

The weigh in will be on the River side of the Port of Rochester.... Contestants coming from vehicles park near Bill Gray's and walk coolers along the river to the weigh in... If coming by boat ( easiest) pull up on the wall and pull off your coolers....

Larry.... Just for clarification...you can leave from any port, but you must end your day at Ibay,Roch, or Braddocks?
Sent from my VS996 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
Ok.... Here are the cliff notes for the tourney...
Saturday...
200 to get in... Cannot leave mouth of Genny or Ibay till 0500, Braddocks- CANNOT LEAVE THE BAY before 0500...
Must be in line NO LATER Than 1500 ( 3pm)
5 fish ...only one can be a lake trout...
Only 5 fish allowed in your cooler
In the event of Tstorms rolling in through the day...use your common sense... At this point your and your crew's safety is ON YOU!
Friday-
100 to get in.. Can leave any port... 1 King,1 Brown,1 steelhead, 1 Laker, 1king
Weigh in.... Must be in line NO LATER than 3pm.
Saturday AM...everyone monitor 72 for departure.
Allow me to say this... The tourney is not designed to be a big prestigious event... It's a nice low key tourney. The goal is to bring some joy to some sick kid's lives...
What can be better? Fishing, Laughs, raising money for a great charity ( a charity that fields a team for the event!!!)
According to Channel 13'S Glenn Johnson... The weather looks really good.

Depends..... In the summer, point your rig North..... Find more stable water.... Once an East wind comes, the lake will probably flip... Offshore, the temps tend to stay consistantHow do you catch fish in an East wind? Drag cowbells on the bottom for lakers?

After careful consideration, the tournament comittee has authorized participants to leave from Braddocks bay.. this is only because the Genesee River public launch is closed. People wishing to leave from Braddocks will not be able to leave the bay before 0500 on Saturday...
We have recruited individuals to police this rule and will report anyone leaving early... Participants should monitor channel 72 the morning of the event for departure announcement...
Due to set speed limits, participants leaving Irondequoit Bay and the Genesse River may stage outside their ports until 0500....
Reminder weigh in time is 3pm..1500 hrs.
Give yourselves time for traffic or the Oroarke bridge if you decide to travel to the port of Rochester Marina weigh in.... Matt

It's not safe to assume anything at this point.... High water has messed up a lot of things, including the guys coming out of Irondequoit Bay...
As of yesterday Shumways has a viable launch... I'm not sure about Voyager or Gibbs ( Riverview).....
Obviously it's somthing to revisit as the date gets closer...

Thanks Stan....
Memorial day was busy out on the Lake. Flat calm, sunny ( for once) and the fishing was great.
Saw a ton of boats around. Its been put out at nausea about this paddle, that meat rig, this fly, that spoon.... Well, with the big competition, I figured maybe we should throw a curve ball... Bumped up the speed to 3.1-3.2 down,on tbe Fish hawk... Tossed out some #3 optimizers and cranked through the middle of the fleet. Spring/ Early summer kings tend to like it fast...perfect optimizer conditions.... Didn't take long till the rods were flying...
Kind of startling when the diver gets smoked at 3.1 mph....lol....
Anyway, sometimes thinking outside the box can get you a few more bites...
Stan, btw the hooks on those lures are sharp as hell... I'm OCD with sharpening hooks, and I barely touched them with a file...
The king in the pic was caught last August out on the fence.... Big waves gave us great erratic action... The pictured spoon took a dozen shots that day.... Including that king...
Tight lines boys...

All good advice... I spool up 6 set ups with 30# .... 3 have 17# fluoro spliced in for spoons... 3 have straight 30 to run paddles and flies.
Wire divers, I use a small barrel swivel and then run 2 rod lengths of 40# mono to my divers...
Keeps fleas off, and is kind of a shock absorber... It also keeps from having curly q wire when your working on your diver...

Lol.... Had a guy on yesterday who was our "Copper guy" in the Monroe County Offshore Classic last year. He assumed he could put the same amount of heat on those spring sharks with BT gear... 2 bay rats and a couple Super Slims ....and a lot of me yelling.... SMH....
Diawa Heartland whoopin sticks, 17# leaders.... It's now on!
Tight lines boys
Sent from my VS996 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
I would put the 12# leaders away ( depending on where your fishing) ....learned a valuable lesson yesterday... #12 leaders, psychotic spring kings, and a guy used to ripping bass out of weeds do not mix......lol

What's a honeybee? ....... Shhhhhhh......Browns, Cohos, and Steelhead love them. My brother usually puts one in the water every trip. The Rochester charter captains use them more then they will ever admit to.

That day we encountered some real funky currents.... Normally I like 2.3-2.5 for BTs... Couldn't go slower than 3.2 going into em... Even with a bag out.
Tossed out optimizers and they chewed em up. I would have never believed it.
Optimizers can be trolled up as fast as 3.7.... Mags even faster.... I don't really see a need to troll that fast, but in rough conditions, or freaky currents they work awesome.
