  2. Cancelled am trip due to rough water, but fished our afternoon trip in 2-3 footers. Started in 10-15fow at 1:30, made three passes off the pier head and hooked up with one good fish and lost it. Ran offshore and fished 400fow, temp was 65degrees at the surface and down to 100fow. We did 10 Steelies, 10ft to 90ft down and did 2 kings down 115 & 125 on flashers and flies. White on white flasher w/ mirage flies. Biggest fish was 31.8lbs. Steelies averaged 6-8lbs.
  3. Thanks you guys for the birthday wishes!! Wish I was celebrating on the pond too !!
  4. The turnout of 29 boats for the first "Sandy Creek Shoot-Out" is a testament to the hard work and good planning that went into making it such a successful day... despite mother nature! I would like to thank Scott B, Legacy, Keith, Charlie and Mike Engle for putting together such a wondeful event. You all did such a wonderful job. And a big round of thanks to all the businesses who donated their products and especially the North Star Gun club. It was a great opportunity to finally put a face to the people that we hear on the radio. It was a pleasure meeting you. Thank you to Tank & Sarah for sharing your day with us.. because it wouldn't have been the same without you guys there! It was a blast! Congratulations to both the organizers and fisherman who made this such a wonderful event. We look forward to the SECOND ANNUAL Sandy Creek Shoot-out!

  6. Tom, Our condolences to you and the Caruana family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time.
  7. Went over the boat to fuel it up and get the rods ready for the morning. Tricia and I decided to get the rods ready in front of the creek in about 15fow. With the engines off, just drifting along and rigging rods, we saw jumping fish. To our surprise, they were all mature salmon. When we got done, we grabbed our spinning rods and began casting fire-tiger J13 jointed rapalas. After about 20min of casting, just as the sun was setting, I hooked up w/ a nice female king. Here is the pic.. I am going to start in 15fow in the morning. Will post tomorrow when we get done w/ our trip.
  8. Golly Gee Scott B.. THAT is FUNNY! A little hard on the beav ( I mean Brian) were't ya! Love u guys! Tricia
  9. I was with him when he was changing the batteries. I was holding the flashlight and watching his back with the machete. On our way in, I did not see any "carry-in, carry-out" signs or "freebies golf" baskets... just farm equipment and fruit trees.
  10. Hope you have a great day Ray!!! Jason and Tricia
  11. Tank, some lovely fish you got there! Great report and pics! -T Wouldn't want you think this post was from Jay...
  12. I run 4 dipseys. And to keep from tangling from running 2 dipseys on one side of the boat you need to run them at least a 1.5 setting apart. Therefore, one side of the boat the dipseys were set at 1.5 and 3 and both out 250 feet. And on the other side of the boat, the dipseys were set at 1.5 and 3 and both were out 350 feet. Hope this helps. Good luck.
  13. We had a great day. We were 13 for 15 w/ 1 laker, 7 mature kings up to 26lbs and the rest 8-12lbs. We fished 220-280fow off the pump house. Almost every rig took a hit. Our best spoons were on riggers.. chicken wing 55ft down, gator 75ft down, black&silver 85ft down. Three of the 4 wire rods also took hits w/ flashers and flies w/ white fly and mt. dew and green krinkle fly w/ mag rings on a 1.5 and 3 setting out 250 and 350. Sorry there are no pics. forgot my camera
  14. Chad, Those are some impressive fish. What a great day of fishing!!! Good job figuring out those muskies. I'd love to catch a muskie some day... well, I have caught them ice fishing, but not in open water.
  15. Trout-N-About Charter AND Guide Service sends their charter fishing clients to Oak Orchard for lodging and meals and orleans county business. In fact, if Oak Orchard is so interested in taking care of their own, then why were charter fishing and guide businesses (because I am sure I was not the only one) solicited to be in YOUR area business guide? I am currently referred guide business as well as charter business by 3 different Orleans County businesses. And all they ask of me is to refer business to them for wader rentals, gear, loding and meals. I see Sandy Creek and Oak Orchard as sister fisheries with business structure that supports the other regardless of the county of origin. I can go to Gander Mt even order direct from Distributors, but I choose to select Orleans County businesses... Why, because they stand for the American small business. P.S. Sandy Creek does not have the business structure to support client lodging, fishing licenses and wader rentals. Since the Oak is just a stones -throw away, all of these needs are meet by ORLEANS COUNTY BUSINESSES! Respectfully, Jason & Tricia
  16. Capt. Bob, Please reconsider in having the 3 biggest fish tourney only out of Oak Orchard Harbor. I agree w/ the rest of the folks that it would really cut into the number of boats that will have the opportunity to enter.
  17. Hi All.. tough fishing out there today. Our day started out with some mishaps... lost subtroll probe and downrigger ball.. so if you see something funny on the bottom at 160fow straight out of Sandy... THATS MY PROBE AND BALL! But the day ended well with a King weighing in at 24lbs 7ozs that gave Jax quite the fight behind the boat and around everything. JAX, Great job landing that fish!! We also need to thank everyone who was out today for all their kind consideration and help in providing us with down temp and and GPS speeds. It was truly appreciated ! We were 3 for 5 . Best depth was 300-380, most bites were approx 105 down w/ 118 feet of cable out on black and silver stingrays. Our toughest day in the last week or so. We had some excellent fishing out of Sandy with mix catches of steelhead, kings and browns all week. In 65-95 fow or offshore in 280 to 380fow. Here are a couple pics from earlier in the week. And of course, Jax w/ his monster which is currently in 4th place in the summer LOC.
  18. A slow bite, but all quality fish. We fished from the Creek to Watoma 120-130 fow. MBK down 50 was our best rig. Then flasher and fly: livewire w/ mirage and green Trout-N-About fly. 1 King, 1 steelhead and a couple of Lakers. Here are few pics from the day. Out again tomorrow.. going to work the same area or go off-shore.
  19. Tank... Some Nice photos you have there! Hopefully we get more nice ones tomorrow! PSF
  20. Of course there is a difference in the fight between the two types of fish. The attraction of fishing to me is not so much the fight of the fish, but the thrill of fooling the fish w/ what you have tied... whether it is a small dry fly or a flasher and fly combo on the lake both are exciting. Thanks for the feedback Ray. I truly appreciate it.
  21. Erin, You might want to get Adobe PhotoShop Elements & Premiere Elements. Nice photo editing and video editing software... good for the entry level and advanced user.. Check out this link to the application: http://www.adobe.com/products/psprelements/ You can purchase from OfficeMax or Staples for around $130 Hope this helps. Regards, Tricia
  22. Fished Spring Creek on the 19th w/ an earlier than usual sulphur hatch. Fishing was good, caught 12-13 fish on sulphur emergers, wet flies and dries. On the 21st fished Oatka. In Wheatland and Scottsville. Water levels are very low... we need rain. But the caddis and sulphur hatches are very good. Did well w/ sulphur dunns size 16 and caddis dries in tan size 14. Despite the low water, fishing was good, we should have good caddis and sulphur hatches for the next three weeks. Fished out of Sandy on the 24th w/ my wife, Tricia, Jax, my friend Paul Jacob from Reel Action Flyfishing and his fiancé Andrea. We fished East towards Watoma. Best depths were 130-150 FOW for us. Had a very good day w/ hits on all rigs. NBK on a 10 color lead-core was good early. The riggers were set 35-85 w/ chicken wing, NBK, gator and tuxedo. All took hits. Two color lead-core on planer boards took fish early. Mid-day the wires produced at 150 on a 3 setting for our best fish w/ a chicken wing spin dr , pink and white TroutNAbout no-seeum fly. Next wire hit was white spin-dr w/ TroutNAbout white &Black fly on a 2 setting out 240. It was great to have such fast action and great fishing w/ good friends. Sorry it took so long to post.. if the weather holds, we will be out Friday morning.
