  1. I use a small swivel about 7' up like most replies indicated. Two things this does: 1. If a piece of grass or a small piece of debris hits your line it will run down to the swivel and it might catch there, allowing your stick to run properly. 2. It prevents twist if your line gets hung up on the hooks. A snap swivel at the lure won't prevent this.
  2. OK I went back to the thread and the advertisments changed! I have never paid attention to the ads before.....must be they change???? Or am I losing it? But the add was for training to be a wind turbine technician.
  3. I just watched the video. Very interesting. Even more interesting are the advertisements within the thread. How did that happen?????
  4. Gill T, Those are nice colors. I'll have to get a few of those to try. Wont be long now.......
  5. Gill T, What do you mean by UV? I looked at their web and didn't see that color. Thanks
  6. Compare the two. I like the action of the F9 better and I use them much more often than the JR. But the Rapalas are twice the cost and are far less durable. I'm wondetring about using the JR more often...............
  7. Looking for a Penn Fathommaster for parts. What I really need is the circuit board for the autostop feature. Thought maybe someon had an old beater laying around.
  8. Thanks for the reply. We did make it up but had motor problems. We didn't get out much Saturday and Sunday we got a few but it was slow. Sounds like from those we talked with Saturday was the better day.
  9. I would appreciate any info on the condition of the river. I am heading up for the weekend unless it is full of ice flow. Thanks very much.
  10. Unfortunately, the second fisherman rescued has lost his life as the result of the accident. He was 52 years old from Horseheads NY. http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/ ... m_las.html Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family
  11. Interesting reading about boat control on the whirlpools. i have a question that maybe someone can answer. I fish there a handful of times ever year. I see sea gulls sitting on the water in the whirlpools all the time. My question is how can it pull a floating object the size of a boat down but those gulls sit there without a care in the world? Always been curious about that......
  12. Pelino, Glad to (Almost) be of assistance. What was wrong that day anyway????

  14. I was about to post this picture of my 16 year old and ask why this looked like a mature. This must be one of those fish you talked about. It was two weeks ago.
  15. Coast Guard launch is not bad. it is shallow as cigs said. Just keep your motor trimmed up until you get past the end of the Coast Guard's dock.
  16. You guys from Watkins area.....how about that Sylvan Cuddy that sits on 414 just below Beaver Dams! It has been sitting there for as long as i have been fishing Lake Ontario, proably 20 yrs plus. It never moved. Now it is reduced to a pile of junk.
  17. Solder and a damp rag to wipe off the excess???
  18. The F9 Rapala hook is a VMC 4650 size 7. I have looked high and low on the net. Anyone know where I can order them?? Thank You
  19. I never did understand why people said to stagger the lines. Let's say you start 60 feet back on the outside line and put three on a side. if your first hit is on the outside, after everything is reset you will have lines at 50, 40, 30. The next release you will be at 40,30, and 20. You soon will have lines right at the release, and every reset you will have lures closer to the boat, which is usally contrary to your objective. My suggestion is to carefully set all the lines to the same distance. When a fish bites just hold the rod for a short period of time to let it clear the other lines. i know some run spoons, but the disadvantage is that anytime you have a slack line to the board, those lures are scratching bottom. More chance for breakoffs. I have caught lots of fish on turns and doing S trolling where the sticks float up, then dive when the slack is gone. I might add that for releases you will be happy with clippers. i have used all types. One thing about the shower curtain type or any other type that has a high proifle is the chance the releases down the line that are unused will swing back over the planer line, and catch a line with it. On the clippers i epoxy the slot closed, and run the ski line through the hole. This also keeps another line from finding its way down in the slot. One more tip. if you put a swivel up about 10' from the lure it helps to catch small weeds, instead of them hanging on the lure rendering it useless. Tie the lure on with a Rapala knot or a small snap for good action. Good fishing.
  20. it is not too early. Provided the lake is fishable you should catch fish. Clear water can be a problem for those early season shoreline browns though. I fish further west, so i can't tell you about the shoreline in that area. Good luck.
  21. 1991 EZ Loader Roller Trailer. Galvanized, single axle with surge actuator and drum brakes. 3690 lb. GVWR. 2900 lb. Load Capacity. Jack, LED Lights, spare tire with tube. Currently registetred. Last used on 3/13/10. Need nothing. $500. Call 607-857-4220
  22. All the fish were browns. A few small ones, a few in the 5 pound range. We were out in the Lake. The bay is open to the first point (I think that is the end of Grieg St) then frozen from there south.
  23. Let the fun begin! My boat is not quite ready so my friend Skyn has been rigging his 17' Lund for trolling. We planned to go to Sodus Sunday AM, but I called it off based on predicted 4' waves. We fished Seneca instead til 10 AM and the whole time we thought about Lake Ontario because it was dead calm. (amd slow-we got one LL) So, we picked up and trucked up to Sodus. It was a 2' roll, but we thought it would be OK. We started fishing in a small cove sheltered from the west wind and picked up 5 for 6 in about 3 1/2 HRS. The best bait was a Gold/Black F9 Rapala. A good way to cure cabin fever. I only wish we had started their first thing in the AM. Thanks to Skyn for a fun day. One heads up...if you back out of the dock at the Coast Guard launch be careful. West of the dock it is shallow. Skyn has a few ounces of aluminum missing from his prop today.....
