  1. 8/24 Took 2 old friends out and set up in 60' with every hope of making the first light bite work..... (on the water at 5:45). Picture was awesome, but the fish didn't co-operate. Around 7:30 the first rod fired green spin doc green glow fly out 125' mag. dipsey on a 3 setting. Shortly there after the dipsey out 100' on a 1.5 goes. The riggers were quiet for most of the early AM till about 10, then with a spoon change they started to produce. 50'-65' down mags. in green/black, green/glow both put fish on the boat. The crew had a youth football game to attend so we were on the trailer buy 11:15. Finish 7 for 9 on Kings with 2 browns and 1 chicken as a " BONUS" ...... largest was 25 1/2. 8/25 Launched again with hopes of a pre-dawn bite, glow spoons and big paddles with meat. 10 minutes in .....Rigger fires 50' down, carbon 14 is off and running !!!! needless to say 3 kings fall victim this spoon before the sun would make the horizon. Now temp has pushed up to about 45' and this has me wondering ??? go in and try shallow , I know there wacking the browns inside but...... I'm only in 70'. Started in and then second guessed my way back out to 75'-90' glad I did. 90' was full of active kings. Same spread as Sat. Mtn. dew spin doc's green glow, green mirage, KOS mag. 10 for 13 on Kings with 2 lakers added on. All of this is 30 minutes from my door. So lucky to be a NY fisherman Great weekend to enjoy the fishery..... and that my 3 guests all caught there new Personal Best !!!
  2. 6 for 8 on kings 2 lakers and a brown all inside 100' Matt. Great picture inside just didn't turn on till after 9 and my crew had a youth football thing in Hamlin so we left early. Back at it tomorrow at O' dark hundred
  3. Where do you come up with this stuff ...??? Kills me. You seem highly educated and very good on the keyboard but really... speed range. To funny
  4. If someone on here tells you a "steelhead pattern" there nuts... yes you can catch them but there one of the hardest to catch with any consistency. As far as kings... anything green, white, dots, glow, J-plugs, and cut bait are all catching fish right now.
  5. Maybe I'm wrong but you have to look at the buoy from "sea level" a 2' wave is the peak... it doesn't reflect the trough. In other words 2' is really 4' from peak to trough. Making things even less than ideal for us smaller boats. Worst I've ever been in 6.5' Advocate charters was disappearing between the waves about 50 yards from me. He has a tower that sticks up 16' +/- of the water.
  6. Not sure what the new buoy is out there- but action was hot for me all around the west side of it. Funny thing about that "buoy"........... here today gone tomorrow. Fishing was great there on Sat. glad I dropped a bunch off waypoints. Sun. AM it was gone but the fish were still there.
  7. .....and I couldn't get a spoon to fire ALL weekend. Go figure. Great job getting your wife out, mine just thinks trolling is boring.
  8. READ THE DIRECTIONS ON THE WEBSITE..... CLEARLY STATES NO RECIPT WILL BE MAILED
  9. Thanks for the update Foster...... Really doesn't come as much of a surprise. Looks like it will be an offshore weekend.
  10. So I'm not alone, what now ??? These little things are going to kill how many fish before something is done about it. I was truly hoping this was an isolated incident. Just great !!!
  11. Gentleman/Ladies, On Monday evening I caught and landed a steelhead.... that was not healthy. The back's of it's gills were covered with, after some research.......sea lice. It was caught out of 44 deg. water down 100' and fought like a 3lb. Lake Trout. With it's poor health it was sent back quickly without photo's. Small whitish parasitic larva on the inside off it's gill's has anyone else caught a fish with these yet ???? Hind is 20/20 I should have bagged it and sent it to the DEC for inspection to prove me wrong. I know what I saw
  12. might suggest you try moving your fly to the "slow hole" on your paddle......that's what it's there for. I've found in years past that it can make a HUGE difference at the end of the day.
  13. WOW..... Solo out10 miles with a leaking bilge !!!! Darwin was right
  14. My buddy runs one on his charter boat ( 2-3 trips a week) never heard him complain about batteries.... I really like the Moor unit but like I said "some people" have an issue with coated cable. Would honestly rather have a speed/temp unit than a sonar unit for most of the season. Late fall doesn't matter
  15. I'm running a Moor 900 and have for years, a lot of guys complain about the coated cable and the lack of durability but it's not a big problem for me. If and when I replace the unit I'll probably go with the new Fish hawk X4. Yes you have to mount a transducer but after that your all set. Moor, Cannon, Depthraider, Fishhawk. They all work some better than others. $$$$... ? how much do you want to spend ?
  16. Launched at 5:45 and shut down at 85' for a temp. check probe at the bottom 68 degs. picked it up and ran north. At 200' we started a 4 wire, 2 rigger spread. Spin docs on the wire with mag dipseys out 180' to 210' and spoons off the riggers down 90' to 105'.The wait wasn't long and the rigger fired with a nice steelhead about 7-8 lbs. When we got to 375' the wires started there magic and we did 5 majors. best fish landed was 25 but we lost a real powerhouse of a king that screamed out over 500' with out stopping, just burst after burst and then GONE !!!! great day offshore with some quality fish being caught. Hoping to get back out soon
  17. Right at the bottom of the add ..... $6500
  18. the rings give a dipsy more surface area.... they dive deeper, not really necessary. As far as smelt most of us that are running meat are using herring. It smells more but hey give it a try and let us know.
  19. I've got hours of my own video from last year and what it shows is fish in a neutral to negative mood. They (the kings) have no problem keeping up with and in over 10x striking my Spin Doctor and fly combo. Yes, they miss but do you really think they always hit there intended pray ? As a predator kings slash through a school of bait fish and then spin around and clean up the wounded and dying. When you find active kings on bait and there feeding strong ..... ever find your fly/lure at the back of there throat ? they don't have any problems catching food. Something else to chew on..... ever change your fly(on a spin doctor) to the slow hole in the paddle? Yes Sk8man...... slower can help them but a lead length adjustment of just 6" longer/shorter will greatly change the action from the S/D.
  20. Something to think about...... when that dipsy starts screaming and your watching in awww as 500' of line is gone. You can't troll too fast, it's what the lures are designed to swim at. A king cruises at 5-7mph and has burst speed's of 20+ , he/she is slowing down to check out your spread.
  21. they don't call them......tyee's for no a reason. They have you on your toes or you don't land them. Great fish
  22. Sooner or later your going to lose something to "Davey Jones" .... in my 30 years I've drop a bunch of pliers, sunglasses, scales, complete outfits (rod holder broke when a KING smashed it) and yes a $145 Beckman net. Now everything has a lanyard to keep it tight to the boat. On a lighter note when you do replace your net take the handle off (or rubber grip) buy a $5 swim noodle and take your knife and cut a strip that fills the handle. Doesn't seem like much but it WILL float your net. A little trick learned the hard way
  23. Congratulations to the both of you on a beautiful girl....
  24. A little confused Jbasile...... most of us don't run a dipsy on leadcore. Dipsy is put on mono or stainless trolling wire and a lead core is run off boards or down the chute. A full 10 color will give you 50' +/- . A mag dipsy will get everything you want down to 100' plus, usually figure a 2:1 ratio. A reg. dipsy will run a 3:1 ratio. Then there's copper ..... another beast of it's own but I never leave home without it
  25. when it comes down to sharp there's really only one "factory" sharp hook..... Gamakatsu !!!!! yes, there expensive but we don't go out and spend $30,000 on a boat and ???? on gas, to loose fish. Almost everything I own has them.
