  1. Tie a blood knot... When done right you'll have no problems ; strength or winding thru the guides
  2. Been running it for many years now ... over 15 and almost always behind a large flasher or Spin doctor. Used to use a 11'' glow frog hot spot dodger but now use a 10" SD straight white. Ran Rhys Davis cut strips till they went out of business. switched to Familiar Bite but didn't like the whole baits as much. Now I'm back to the Familiar Bite cut strips (Rhys Davis specs) love it. there's a small learning curve but it works better than almost everything else I run.
  3. A huge thank you to all of the committee for yet another outstanding tournament. Great turnout and even better weather to greet all those involved. As far as Sandy Creek Marina...... ya, closed to the public. Bruce ,WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ?
  4. Maybe I'm wrong but if YOU bought a fishing license then it's YOUR responsibility to understand and follow the regs. Yes there's a wealth of knowledge here for all to share but the fishing regulations are published and it's not something you ask others about. just my 2 cents
  5. Ok seem this seems a bit odd. your on a pier where your only limited to north or south. the father you go out the deeper you'll be. As far as "tons of hit" ??? I've put in PLENTY of time on the piers and the best salmon trip was 5 hits with 3 landed after about 4 hours. There either there or there not but you can't do much about it .....
  6. SO WHERE'S TROUT-N-ABOUT ??????????? J. Franz you r going to give us the pleasure of your participation in this event
  7. Advantech OSB .... damn good stuff and highly water resistant. $30 a 4x8 sheet.
  8. The whole lake doesn't roll when we get East, North East winds. If you were to run out 20 miles it stays relatively consistent. That is to say the middle of the lake does get temp changes but there not as drastic as the shoreline.
  9. The natural current that exists in Lake Ontario is from west to east. Flowing from the Niagara out the St. Lawrence River. When water reaches it's most dense at 39 deg. it settles at or near the bottom. That being said every temp. stratifies accordingly. The warmest on top and down to the coldest or in this case the most dense. When we get a East or North East you have a lot surface disturbances pushing that warm water against the current and it has to go somewhere..... on shore. This in turn drives it down and displaces the cold water underneath. Upwelling occurs and we end up with ice water on the surface and the fish scatter to try and find there comfort zone. Fishing is difficult and most struggle for a few days till things get back to normal. I'm sure I left out some of the details but that's a brief explanation of thermal hydro-dynamics.
  10. That line was down for 10-15 min. at most !!!! most often I'll just pluck it like a guitar string but yesterday I did ALOT of cut and retying. Ends up being a whole lot faster and less of a mess on the boat. I am tying on the Flea Flicker right now because that sucked. Fleas were on my leader between the dipsey and Spin Doc AND between Spin doc and my fly.
  11. Well done Nothin But Net, as far as Fleas NEVER seen anything like today EVER.....
  12. was there on weds. evening, did good with 4" senko wacky rigged under any dock with a ladder. Like others have already said green was a great color. Water color was pea soup green... a little scary considering we were swimming too.
  13. Launched at 5 and was greeted by .... of course more East wind and fog. Water from the river was pushed all the way too Braddocks which held browns all the way 13 for 15 best was 13.11lbs. Turned out and found the lake rolling in 75' the probe down 45' within a 25 yard stretch went from 58 deg. to 47 deg. and back to 58 deg. It looked like a horizontal tornado down 50' THERMOCLINE !!!!! would be an understatement. Very few fish but a lot of bait. At 120' mag diver take a shot and ... King on ! Cousin starts the battle and I really think the fish is winning for the first 15 min. Finally after a 20 min. fight over. 22 lb. King in the net. Ended with 3 kings. Temps out side were 46 degs down 65' not bad for 3 days of east wind.
  14. Thank you Chris I will look into that format
  15. Just my 2 cents but really no need for a housing, I went to the hardware store and bought a stainless 10-32 a couple of washers and a nylon jam nut. Then took a grinder to the back eye of down rigger ball and flattened it out just enough to slide the housing of the Go Pro over it. It works perfect and I've only got $3.75 invested in it. On a side note........ Still haven't found a software program I like to cut and paste my footage, what are you guys using ????
  16. Well all in all a slow AM...... JK Brian you Da MAN. We boated 57 lakers, 2 steelhead and 1 king. No miss print 57 chickens but nothing over 20 lbs. best 2 fish would currently be in 14th and 15th but after a brief talk realized not worth the drive with a month left in the derby. A picture is worth a thousand words
