Looking to go up to the Niagara Bar this spring to fish the derby. I n previous years I have made the drive daily from Rochester. Getting to old to do that and would like to spend 3 or 4 days up there. Can some of you guys turn me on to some cheap lodging? Usually launch out of the fort, but Wilson is Ok too. Thanks in advance.
Joe
REEL DRAG
I used the 47lc great lakes reels for years and they performed well. This year I bought 2 Tekota 600LC's and let me tell ya it's like comparing a pinto to a galaxie, the power of the Tekotas is outstanding, spend the money!!
I went to school at Charlotte with those guys and I heard they are charter guys. I haven't seen them since 1974. I'm not looking for a charter, I have my own boat, just looking to say Hey! Joe "Reel Drag".
Anyone on this board know how I can get in touch with a couple of captains named Wally Merb or Norm O'Brien?. They must fish out of the Genny. Thanks. Joe Bianchi
Dave it's always good hearing from you. We really have had a GREAT year out of Sandy. I look forward to seeing you out on the tribs this year.Traveling around the country with a fly rod in hand doesn't sound like a bad idea. Looking at retiring a few years from now.
Mike Engle of the boat Coyote Ugly and myself concluded a successful derby with 2 browns, 15lbs and 14-3 on the board and a 5th place king at 27-8. We boated around 80 fish for the derby fishing out of Sandy. Looking forward to a good LOC. Joe- "Reel Drag"
Fished out of Sandy Saturday morning and had a great day. Targeted browns in 50 fow. Currently have browns in 2nd and 5th place. Glow greens fished 15-20ft down and 60 on the wire on # 3 set. Joe
I was also out on Saturday and went as deep as 530ft. The temps didn't change more than a few feet. The temps are still pretty high. For our efforts of 4 hrs out deep we did 1 18# king and 2 steelhead under 10#'s. When I ran in to 45ft I did a couple browns and a king in 30 minutes. There are some big kings mixed in with the browns and the bait in the inside waters right now.
Fished 35-45 ft of water riggers 27 and 31 down, wire divers out 95 on a #3 setting and lead core 8 colors. went 18 for 28. 16 browns all quality fish between 6-10lbs, 12# steelie and a 29lb king. Joe
Unless it's a trophy wall mount,or a derby fish they go back in to fight another day. I try to get pictures of folks who catch fish on my boat as well as pictures of good fish.
Fished 130-160fow, 75-105 down, 260 out on the wire divers, went 11 for 16, 9 big kings(20-25lbs) 1 double digit brown, 1 10lb laker. Fished between the pump house and the nose.
Any reports out of the genny or braddocks? I haven't been out since last Saturday. I'm taking some folks out from work on Sunday. I know the fishings been hot off Sandy.
