  1. Keith I didn't run boards on Sunday, but I took fish on everything with equal catches on the cores, copper, riggers and wire. Just an awesome day for us. We started off the nose and were pretty much all by ourselves with most of the fleet fishing east. Then as the morning went on everyone was moving to the west, I went to the east right out front and did very well to end the day. I would have stayed out until dark but had a party to attend( big family, lots of birthday parties) the wife just won't listen when I say I'm not going!!! Joe
  2. Scott I'm fishing with Mike Engle from Coyote Ugly on Friday, and right now it's just the two of us, we're fishing the 1 day event before the pro-am. You 're welcome to hop on board as well. Let me know before I get a third person. Joe.
  3. First time I tried to use the VHF on Saturday( brand new with the boat) it quit on me, so I was without the radio on Sunday. I really didn't want to mess with a brand new boat but I dug into the dash and found the fuse on the VHF blown. I replaced the fuse, cancelled the new radio at the dealer and was back in business for Monday. Fishing at Olcott on Friday.
  4. Took the new boat out on Saturday and spent all day breaking her in. Fished Sunday west of Sandy worked 65 to 175 fow. Landed 22 fish, mixed bag of lakers, steelies and kings, the largest being 15#. Fished the same areas on Monday going 8 for 12, mostly kings but nothing big. Late morning got a little bumpy for the crew, packed it in after seeing green faces. Overall the new boat is great and I can't believe I waited so many years to make the purchase. Joe.

  7. Fished Saturday out of the Genny, met Long lines at the dock. It 's nice to meet people that post here, kinda puts the name with a face. Well anyway we headed west out of port and the temps and color were great. We trolled to just west of Round pond and back, not a release to be had. Then we went to the east side of the river where temps were in the mid 50's with fairly dirty water. Nothing doing. First time in 8yrs I've been skunked this time of year. It was a beautiful day out there though. How did you do Tom, I thought you headed west as well. We worked 6-20ft depths. By the way with water levels up you couldn't see those rocks west of russell. You know, the ones that look like they were part of a pier at one time. I found them with my skegg and my prop. I was in 8'-9' of water. Caeful out there.
  8. I run the Cannon and I like it. I had a subtroll 2 yrs ago and liked that as well. As others have said, you lose the probe and it costs big time. The light feature on the Cannon is great as well as actual depth readings.
  9. Fished from the genny west to braddocks, 4 browns and 1 northern pike. We fished 6-9 f.o.w. Various stickbaits. Water temps and color were mixed.
  10. I do believe that the captain of every boat is responsible for all parties on board. I am not a drinker, but at the same time, if someone wants to tip a few while fishing, go ahead. The captain has the right to say what he allows on his vessel and what he doesn't. To say that no alcohol should be allowed on a boat is narrow minded. Responsible drinking these days is the rule whether in a car or a boat. However, the captain or the person driving the boat should not partake in the consumption of alcohol. Safety is a concern for all of us. Be safe and good fishing. I don't want to offend anyone with my post, but are we not adults capable of making responsible decsions? I think that the majority of boaters follow the rules. There will always be exceptions. How many more freedoms do we have to lose before we wise up and make a stand. Drink if you want, have fun and be safe.
  11. Thanks to all for your input. It will be a boring time!!!
  12. can anybody tell me if there is a break in period for a brand new inboard/ outboard? I am sure the dealer can tell me, but I'm trying to plan ahead.
  13. New boat coming in 3 weeks. This is a perfect starter boat for lake ontario trolling or fingerlakes, 4500.00 or b.o.
  14. Rich, In a previous post you mentioned your Dad being able to fabricate rocket lauchers. I have a new boat coming in a couple of weeks. Do you think he would be interested in fabricating one for me? The boat is a hardtop. Joe "REEL DRAG"

  16. The boat is a 1985. It has a 140 mercruiser I/O. I haven't checked the hours on it in a while. I just decided to sell the boat yesterday I will try to get some pics when the weather permits. It's under the covers for the winter.

  20. kings, browns and then bows. Joe REEL DRAG
  21. I don't think the reduced number of Kings will hurt us in the long run. I know alot of locals who fish the lake and for the most part, the average troller does not keep his limit of fish no matter the species. Sure the charter guys have clients who do take there limits, but that's what these clients pay for. No problem there, there's enough fish out there for us all to enjoy. I also think that the days of 40lb kings are gone as is the case in Lake Michigan. The forage base could definitely use the break. Let's just see what happens. Yankee, if you want to catch some Browns, tag along with REEL DRAG and COYOTE UGLY. We had an awsome year in 07 on big Brownies. Jerry had the pleasure of following behind us a few times while we were slamming them. (JUST KIDDING JERRY!!) As another poster has said, there are other fish that can be targeted, to make up for the loss of the Kings. As far as fish returning to the streams, there will still be plenty for the masses to rip, drag, snag, line or whatever other method these clowns use to "CATCH" fish. Just my 2 cents worth.
