  1. Time to change my downrigger line (way overdue). What is the recommended line nowadays for Lake O trout and salmon. What is everybody using? (brand and # test). Does anybody use or have tried braid or is it still mono? Im assuming a Flouro leader? Thanks Also is the flea line still made? I think it was blood run?
  2. Dr Farrell deserves a medal! Hopeful article. https://thousandislandslife.com/bringing-muskellunge-back-through-science-and-conservation-2/
  3. OK thanks buddy. Good luck!
  4. Does anybody know if the floating docks are still in at Fort Niagara or when they are taking them out? As soon as they take them out its really tough launching there because you have to dock your boat between 2 giant metal poles and the boat cant be bigger than 16 or you will be slamming your motor into the poles. What a **** design for late season fishing and there you can fish all winter. Who would know when the floating docks are coming out if they are still in? At least leave one in.....
  5. I say make it a Walleye lake and stop forcing trout on us. Glad they are taking off.
  6. Can anyone tell me if the Fort Niagara Launch at Youngstown is useable? Its Wed. Nov 6. I was wondering if the floating docks are out and if we have to deal with those giant pipes sticking out to dock? Also is it too shallow? Wish they would of left it alone. Thanks
  7. One thing to keep in mind is virtually all the charter captains there are catch and kill. More so than any area in the USA. They are living in the 1970s. It doesnt matter if they are huge Smallmouth, huge Pike, breeder Walleyes, trophy Muskies, every trout no matter the size, anything caught is killed. I have noticed this myself for years and it was confirmed by another charter captain there I know (who is one of the few practicing catch and release). To me its sickening. Guys like me who release everything and are in it for sport so they can catch the same fish and kill them for the brag board at the dock. Its a dirty little secret there. That might have something to do with you not catching much. What really sickening is the big breeder Walleyes 10-14 lbs they kill. They are no good for eating that big and those are the breeders supplying the system for years to come. Sure paying customers should be able to bring home a few fillets but jeez let the big ones go and keep the small ones. Better eating anyway. I think most here know who one of the main culprits is. He's been in trouble with the DEC several times.
  8. Bassmaster is so old school. At least MLF weighs and does an immediate release. Bassmaster could care less about the resource, catch a bass 80 miles away, bang them in the livewell all day, put clips on the fins to keep upright and then release 80 miles away. Gone forever from the original area. Lots of dead bass especially in Aug when they are down deep. It's sickening to me. Add livescope to that and it will only get worse. Sad for us catch and release guys and conservationists.
  9. That article was from 1999. I think the laws have changed some.
  10. This pic was taken 7/27/24 near Chippewa Bay and Singer Island. Its right on the border but I think it was Ontario water. This is absolutely ridiculous the amount of Cormorants on this island. (have no clue what the structure is/was) There was another island just west of this with about 50 Cormorants on it. I didnt count on this one but there is way too many. Does NY and Canada realize how many fish each one of these birds eat in 1 day? Its only a matter of time before the fishing will get tougher. It already is with a tournament every week nearly. Little Bass, Muskies, Walleyes, etc dont have a chance with these things hunting for food every day. Are any authorities aware of this and doing anything other than saying there's an open season? I have never seen anyone hunting these and I dont think the DEC is oiling eggs any more either. This is sad. You could smell this island at least 100 yards away downwind. Disgusting!
  11. Just fantastic Chad! Congrats to you and your Family. Wow what a fish solo no less. All the best. Bob
  12. All you have to do is set the self timer on your camera or phone to 10 sec. and hold the fish. Get a tripod or clamp on device (theres a ton of them out there) and put the phone or camera on it. Looks better holding the fish than laying on the floor and is better for the fish than slamming around. Nice catch.
  13. I hope the Walleyes reproduce in both Canandaigua and Skaneateles because the DEC has spent too much time stocking Trout in most all the Finger Lakes and not enough Walleyes hardly anywhere. The warm water fisheries have been ignored. Stock more Walleyes and Tiger Muskies other than just a few select lakes. And yes Canandaigua did produce trophy Walleyes as did Hemlock before the Alewives moved in. The DEC should of kept the lakes stocked as some of the biggest walleyes anywhere used to come out of those lakes up to 14-15 lbs.
  14. Yes this is a FN joke. Bass are still on the beds and the DEC is basically sanctioning this. Its ridiculous. Whats even more sucky is guys are using the viewing things that look like a megaphone shape (I dont know what you call them) to view under water to target them on the beds! Real sporting. ...Those guys cant catch em any other way. They may as well bow fish. Its so un sportsman like in my opinion to be targeting them off the beds. I mean if you get one accidentally then so be it but to drop right on the bed to disrupt the spawning is sinful in my opinion. Whats even worse is the DEC allowing tournaments while the spawn is still on (see Cayuga L.). Whats even worse is shortening the season to June 15th instead of the 3rd Sat in June. It should be later not shorter like the Cannadians are doing on the St Lawrence. The season for Smallmouth doesnt open till July 1st this year to protect the spawn and no targeting them for catch and release either. I mean the water is 56 there so this is not good. Hopefully these guys fishing the beds dont keep any cause that is the future of the fishery providing the gobies dont get em first. Wake up NY!!
  15. Maybe dumb but if Canada didnt do anything all those years, how do you know it wouldnt of worked? From what I remember most of them were on the Canadian side too. Well whatever they need to do something, I see them carrying fish all the time.
