  2. Off shore fishing is great in the fall as the younger fish go on the feed big time from 6-14 miles out. Stingers, DW, NK and my favorite Moonshines all work. If you are fishing from shore go to captains cove in waterport and get some Moonshine casting spoons use them at sunrise and sunset with great success. CC
  3. Take a reel put on 300 yards of 30# power pro then tie on a small swivel, twist on 200', 300', 400', 500' or 600' of copper then twist on another small swivel then tie at least 10' but no more than 50' of 30# florocarbon or mono the tie on a snap/snap swivel put lure on and go fishing. Really it is that easy. Here are the approx depths of the lengths of copper: 200' = 44' 300' = 66' 400' = 88' 500' = 110' 600' = 132' Then it goes up and down when you turn and up when you go faster and down when you go slower. CC
  4. Ray, I think that with all those days and hours on the water you are to tired and TOOO slow to get to the rod!!! IMHO CC PS. Instead of snubber you may want to try this: attach 20' - 30' of 50# mono between the wire and the diver. I have done this and it is not too shabby when in flea season and your wire does not curley Q from pulling out of the tip when rigging.
  5. Ray is right on if the sun is up it will charge it. If you are charging lures in the dark for use in the dark any light source will do but flash is the quickest. In the fall I will hang my J plugs in the cabin with the cabin light on while I rig the boat at the dock, by the time I am fishing they are glowing. My biggest challenge has been with the purple glows it seems only the sun can charge them, although I am sure a UV light would as well. CC
  6. Congrats!!! That's one proud fishin' Dad in that pic!!! CC
  7. Jam, I thought that Narby's had them, I know that Captains Cove has them, just called to make sure and Brandy said they were on the wall. What you are about to read is secret and you should keep this under wraps until after the spring pro-ams Moonshine has come out with a standard size (28 size) Carbon 14, Raspberry Carbon and Silver Carbon. Just got some, haven't had a chance to fish them yet. Ask Narby's, Captain's Cove or Lake Breeze marina to get you some. They will be great lures. CC
  8. Jim, That is remarkable......WOW. What a role model and object lesson of sowing good seeds and reaping good deeds!! God is good!! CC
  9. Trap Jaw, I am in the same delima. I have had the same trouble with Shimano that you have had with Okuma. I have not had a penn last longer than a season on my boat with out a visit to Captain's Cove Reel Hospital. Diawas are work horses, but I find the drags to be a bit clunky for my taste. If Billy V is still using the Accudepths he got from me about 4 years ago then I am impressed, I can't remember for sure, but I think that I got them gently used from another member of this board in the early years. I started the season with some ( Garcia Ambassadeur 7000 LC Syncros........They are SWEET!!!!! Hold one in your hand and you know you have something special. Very smooth and the syncro drag makes rigger setting and dipsy creeping a cinch. I do not know how they will hold up, we have landed a couple of nice kings on them and they did just fine. I will put at least 100 days on them by the end of September so time will tell. Good luck, CC
  10. Started the morning in 50' on a north troll. Circled on each fish, worked out to the 27N line and back. Nice breaks on the surface, fish were on the breaks, but not in great concentrations. Boards and slide divers were best. Jets off the boards with DW firecrackers, Steely Dan and NK 5 of diamonds. Lots of small fish on the surface biggest fish of the day was a nice king on the 500' copper, hit a black spin dr pulling a New Moonshine Carbon 14 fly. Also effective was a 200' copper with a W/W/NSU. Good fishin'!! CC
  11. There but by the grace of God go I. Copy the captain's name, and plug it into a google or yahoo search. If it is the same Anthony LaRock (from Burt, NY) it is not the first rescue he has been involved in. GOOD people are not forgotten! Interesting!!!! CC PS. I'm moving my life jackets out of the cabin!!
  12. Here is the problem guys................................The folks filling these positions are from the (blue) cities and suburbs. They were weened on the xbox and ps2 and have no clue why the rods are bent over on the back of the boat or what the red things are out to the side. They know what the manual says and what their trainer told them, but they are not able to process what is in front of them and come to a rational conclusion. They could be reasonable and think: “would a smuggler be going 2.5 miles/hour in a circle for the last 2 hours?†(they would know this because they have equipment to watch you while hiding under the horizon 30+ miles away) If they came to the conclusion that they have a reasonable suspicion that you are smuggling and pose a threat to national security, you would think that they could announce their intentions – they do have loud hailers on those boats- then allow you time to prepare for them to approach the boat. I guess that they would need probable cause to search your boat – oh yeah, that changed it used to be that way back when the country operated under the constitution. Now it operates under the ACLU where if you look like a smuggler (suntan, beard, towel on head ect.) you won’t get searched because that is profiling, but if you look like a fisherman the ignorant, frustrated law enforcers pull you over. When evil is called good and good is presumed evil the good must stand tall and proclaim their innocence. I will show them respect like Mick said and then before they leave my boat I will calmly and politely let them know that they inconvenienced me and my crew of American Citizens and ask that they remember my boat and my honest occupation on the lake next time they are in the area. And one more thing, I will video tape them the whole time that they are in my presence. Maybe if I get the same guys on tape more than once, I’ll call the ACLU. CC PS. Disclaimer -- this post is my opinion and not intended to offend any specific individual. PSS. ADDED If that is the case then they can use the hailer technique as described above. -- Can't they??? I can appreciate it if I am asked if I saw a SUSPICIOUS boat or jet ski; but, to stop me while fishing to find out if I am a US citizen when I am 35 miles from foreign soil and going in circles IS intentional harassment at worst and ignorance at best. Disclaimer still stands – I am sure Glenn is not driving the boat!!
  13. Need a wide beam aluminum boat for fat guys to fish out of. I guess it does not have to be aluminum. Do not need trailer or motor, but will take either. Pm or email me at [email protected] Thanks, Carl Bish
  14. Ray, I think I have read all the scotty reports and Yours is the the boat I would have wanted to be on!!! CC
  15. Ok now -- catching the fish is the easy part, but can you get your wife to go out again with you??? Congrats & Welcome to the Big O CC
  16. I was afraid they were deep sixeded due to budget cuts!! Good news -- Thanks
  17. Tim, You can post a line to line reply. At the end of the day --- and all the banter each guys goes with what works for them. I can only speak to my experience. The worst year fishing down temp and speed was last year when I had no unit on my boat -- long story. I fish 60 - 100 days a year and if I spend the money on something I want it to work. I am very frustrated when I spend top dollar and then have to nurse the equipment after 10 - 15 days of use. I am very demanding of my equipment, I use it hard and put it away wet and if it lasts on my boat it is good stuff. I require consistency in my control of downrigger depth. Having one cable of larger diameter that another does not allow for that consistency. I don't want to have to adjust my fishfinder to see the cables and I do not want to add or subtract feet to my counter. With the fish hawk I have very little blow back and I can move it from rigger to rigger or .......... why rehash the same stuff. If your experiences are different please share, the open discussion on the topic is exactly what the guys buying a new unit need to read to make up their mind. You can insult my fish hawk all you want and I will not be offended!!!! I can handle it if someone else has a different set of experiencs and a different opinion then I. No need to tiptoe around me!! You all have a good day now, CC PS. Back to the subject of the units themselves, I did put a new duracell in my fish hawk every day in order for it to work right. I couted it a cost of doing business. I don't know about you guys but it costs me >$100 each time I leave the dock so the cost of one battery was not the most expensive thing for me. I am glad that the new units have a longer battery life.
  18. DC, If you only have one copper -- run it right down the chute. You can attach it to a large float and send it back 100' if you want it out of the way of netting ect.. You can also run them off of outriggers. CC
  19. I don't think you can have too big a bag....I seem to get about 2 seasons out of a bag. You don't want to troll all day at min throttle, the larger bags will allow you to add some rpm's. CC
  20. See X-4 post in OPEN LAKE Discussion http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishing/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10951
  21. It all depends on the frequencies and the location of transducers. The closer the frequencies the greater chance of interf. For example one of my ff operates at 83 and my fish hawk is 78 they interfere, but my 50/200 does not interfere with either 83 or the 78. The further apart you have the transducers the better. You can also select frequencies on many ff so you could turn one on 200 and run the other at 50 if you wanted to use the same type of ff in both places. Hope this helps. CC
  22. Short day -- Short report Productive first hour with 3 fish - 2 kings and a brown. Then a storm moved through fish shut off, another storm moved through, I went home!! Fish hit a 42 second spoon down 98' over 115, purple thunder 43' down and firecraker behind a jet. Fishing a few extra hours yesterday was the right call, the catching never caught on for us after the first storm. CC
  23. TB, That 50/50 slide diver was good for a couple for us as well on Friday, but with the steely dan. Orange and silver catches bows!! Thanks for your report. CC
