  7. Starting to put the boat away, consolidating and doing inventory. I'm making one of my copper reels available. It is one of the last US-made Penn 345GTi reels, loaded with 600' of copper, 300 yards of 50# PP backing and a 50' section of 30# leader. It saw very little use this year, as I used the dipseys and downriggers the most. I also have a Daiwa Heartland 9'6" rod for the reel, if you are interested. I will ship to you. Asking $150 for the reel. Thanks!!
  8. I've seen this boat up close on the water, even ran alongside it a few times. It handles the rough waters with ease and is a very dry boat. If I didn't have my Islander, I'd jump on this boat. She'll make some angler very happy!!
  9. Up for my annual vacation at the house for 9 days. Left the Mexico Point launch shortly before 6:30am after the 12 y/o decided she'd rather sleep in. Ran straight out to about 100fow and began marking fish, some quite large, around 80 down. Dropped (2) lines down on the riggers and let out a dipsey set-up. 5 minutes later, the one rigger rod wearing a white/green glow Dreamweaver flasher with an A-TOM-MIK Mirage fires and begins to take line. Fishing alone can be interesting at times. Unfortunately, the fish got off about 50' from the boat. About 15 minutes later, another rigger rod fires, however that fish got itself off, as well. After spending about 15 minutes untangling a mess, I moved out to 200fow and the screen was filled with all sized marks. I decided to run a (2) dipsey program with a downrigger. The dipseys were the way to go, as they were on fire!!! One side was a Nuclear Green combo, while the other side was a special Pro-Troll white/chrome flasher with a Big Weenie Smooth Cooter fly. The BW dipsey had (2) hits in a matter of 30 minutes. The green did nothing. By 10am, it seems everything shut down, as the screen went blank. Trolled west to east by Oswego in 130-200 and came up empty. I had been trying to call the 12y/o to make sure they were up and doing something productive, however, after numerous failed attempts, picked up and headed in around noon. I got stopped by the DEC at the launch. They told me that of the 15+ boats they'd stopped, only (2) fish were reported. Going to try it again today, hopefully with the 12y/o along this time.
  10. In cleaning-up the transom of my boat this spring, I downsized from (4) downriggers to (2). When I did that, these Traxstech downrigger mounts came off, as well. They are only a few years old and are the 6" non-swivel model. They are pre-drilled to accept all downrigger bases and are in great shape. Asking $100 for the pair.
  11. I'm looking for a nice, dual-bank onboard battery charger. I'm considering the Guest, Pro Mariner and Minn-Kota lines. Are there any others anyone recommends or can rate? I want something that distributes the output as needed to both batteries, not simply 5A to battery (1) and 5A to battery (2). If battery (1) is 30% and battery (2) is 70%, I want the charger to recognize this and give more output to battery (1). Thanks for the input!!!!
  12. The state launch at Mexico Point has had its share of doozies over the years. Funniest I've seen up close and personal was a father/son outing, where dad had backed the trailer into the water to retrieve the boat. The young son, probably about 10 years old, was helping to pull the boat up to the trailer. Once the boat was within the bunks of the trailer, the son let go of the line, before dad had a hold of the boat. Unfortunately, there was a nice little breeze, which proceeded to push the boat away from the trailer and the boat started to drift back out into the Little Salmon River. Dad, of course, starts yelling, "What did you do that for?" The little boy starts crying, while dad just stands there, yelling, as their boat is drifting away. I ran into the water and grabbed the line, and brought the boat back to the trailer, helped them get it onto the trailer and made sure dad had the winch cable secured before I let go. He thanked me and off I went to drive back to the house in soaked shorts, sneakers and shirt. And, then there are always the ******* who drive past everyone patiently waiting in line to launch and drive right to the ramp, back halfway down, and then gets out to prep their boat. Last year, I was 3rd in line, when someone decided to do just that. The first guy in line waiting got out of his truck and starts yelling at this moron, who proceeds to start yelling back. The second guy in line gets out of his truck and it is now a 2 on 1 shouting match. I started to get out of my truck, but decided to sit still and watch the entertainment. By the end of it all, there was an entire family from the 1st in line out yelling, including the wife, who was louder than the husband!! Never a dull moment...
  13. Do the remaining rod holders have any cracks around the allen set screw?
  14. I remember it all too well. August 13, 1998. I was fishing solo out in my, at the time boat, 18' Starcraft center console. I was between Catfish Creek and the power plant in about 120fow, manual downriggers were down around 90. The one release fired and the rod snapped up. I still can hear the "whoosh" of the tip. As the reel started screaming, I remember thinking to myself "Oh ****, oh ****". I started reeling, while trying to crank up the riggers by hand (I could only afford manuals back then). About 5 minutes later, the fish surfaced about 10 feet from the boat and took off again, peeling line. I got it to the boat again, but it wasn't done, as it took off again. Finally, after about 20 minutes total, I netted the fish...but it didn't completely fit in the cooler I had back then; about a foot of the fish was sticking out. I picked-up and ran into Lighthouse Marina to have it weighed. When I got there and tied-up, I can still remember the look of a little boy standing on the dock with his dad as I hefted the fish out of my boat and started walking up to the main building. The staff came out and was happy to assist me. The King weighed 33lbs, 2oz and measured 42 inches long. LM offered to hold onto it until I could get back to pick it up. As I returned to my boat, the dad with the little boy asked me where I caught that fish. When I told them, the little boy turned to his dad and asked if he could take him there to fish. I returned to the general area, but only had a few releases the rest of the day. I retrieved the fish later, took it back to the house to show the family and neighbors, then took it to Fish Wish in Pulaski to have it mounted. The fish now sits above the fireplace at the lakehouse. The Fall LOC started a week after I caught that King. I watched the leaderboard, and my fish would have been the top fish for 7 days had I caught it a week later. The same day I caught my King, the NYS record Coho was caught about 1/2 mile from where I was fishing. All in all, a great day!!
  15. I was researching batteries last night for my truck after my Interstate finally bit the dust and thought I'd share some info I found. Up until about 2 years ago, the WalMart Everstart was one of the top rated batteries available. They were made by Johnson Controls, who manufacturers a good amount of the batteries on the market today. Something happened legally about 2 years ago and they had to switch battery manufacturers. The company which now makes their batteries isn't known for quality products and have a high failure rate, some people reporting on a survey that they had to replace their battery after only 6 months of use. The above posts where people mention they are on 4-10 years with their Everstarts is truthful, because of the Johnson Controls connection. Anything newer, I would stay away from personally. I was going to get an Everstart for my truck last night until I read this information. I wanted another Interstate, but went with a DuraLast. Made by Johnson Controls and same exact ratings (CA, CCA and RC) as the Interstate. I run only Interstate batteries on my boat. Just my $0.02.....
  16. It seems a common issue with the Cannon dual front mount rod holders (2450163) is the piece which the rod holders attach to that slides over the downrigger arm cracks and allows the entire as to rotate. Is just that piece available from Cannon or do I have to buy the entire dual mount assembly? My rod holders are perfectly fine; I just need the part they attach to. Anyone with input and perhaps a part number? Thanks!
  17. I considered going to a synthetic a few years ago in my 4.3 MerCruiser, but didn't for many reasons, some of which Borderline mentioned. I've stuck with the MerCruiser 25W-40 without any issues. I agree with the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" theory.
  18. Thanks for all the help. I ordered the pinion gear and a new roll pin (just in case the old one breaks coming out). Hopefully have the kicker running again by next weekend!
  19. Thanks for all the help! I'll check out these suppliers this evening and report back.
  20. I need the pinion gear for my 6hp Johnson outboard's recoil starter, as it snapped last weekend. Can anyone possibly provide the correct part number for it? Model number of the outboard is 6R-71G. Places I'm calling say it is not available or is obsolete. Thanks!
  21. I run a 1971 Johnson 6hp as my kicker. Been in the family since new and was handed down to me. Only change I've made over the years is change the prop to a 3-blade model. Better control and thrust over the stock 2-blade prop. True, it is a 2-stroke, however it sips the fuel.
