  1. Has anyone printed out the registration application available online and done the process that way? I won't be up to the lake to getting the Pulaski DMV until March at the earliest and thought of getting this taken care of before the season starts. 2. All the paperwork and documents for the Mexico Bay come to my PA address. I cannot get a residency status in NY because I do not live there. I am merely there on weekends. All my registrations go by my driver's license, it's how the process works here. I printed out the paperwork to do a NY registration and they ask for your mailing address and your driver's license number and state of issue. I cannot provide them a NY residency status because I don't live there more than 90 days out of the year. This is a dilemma I'm trying to figure out to register the boat in NY. Look, I never was looking to start a debate, just a friendly question of what everyone does and gather opinions. Thanks for everyone's input and opinions. 3. Moonfish, First off, let me thank you for your reply and input. Now, a little about me. I have been fishing Lake Ontario for the better part of 40 years, ever since I was a kid. My family has had property along Mexico Bay since the early 1900's and I currently have property along the lake shoreline. I pay property taxes, school taxes and flood insurance, all for a property I use 6 months out of the year. I'm not some out-of-stater that randomly drives up to the lake. My original post was merely a question as to what other out of staters do and if anyone knows of any truth to what I was told by the DEC officer. That's all. I'm not "whining" or feeling priviledged for utilizing Lake Ontario for my recreational purposes. I purchase an out-of-state NY fishing license every year and it is the ONLY fishing license I have. I do not have a PA fishing license and haven't in over 20 years.
  4. I've looked into what's involved and it's kinda insane. I bought my boat in 2005 and the state wants to charge me tax on what I paid on the boat 12 years ago. I already did that in 2005, as I purchased it up near the Thousand Islands. I asked a friend of mine with the USCG in Ogdensburg and he said the DEC officer was correct.
  5. Boat registrations and State This has been a question of mine for a few years, but never followed through with it. How many of you live outside of New York State (ie. PA, OH, VT, MA, etc) and have your boat registered in your state of residence, yet primarily use your boat on Lake Ontario and its tributaries? I've been told for years that wherever you primarily use your boat is where it needs to be registered, regardless of what state your primary residence is in. My residence is in PA and my Islander is used 100% on Lake Ontario. I've never had my boats registered in NY. I wasn't really concerned about this "law" until last year at the launch when the DEC was doing one of their surveys and I got stopped. They noticed my boat was registered out of state and asked me if I fished primarily on Lake Ontario, to which I responded "yes". The one officer told me that was against the law and I should get the boat registered in NY. Anyone heard any truth to this "law" and actually changed their registered state to NY? Or is this merely a way to get more revenue into the state? My boat is in NY at the lake from April through October, and home in PA on the trailer winterized November through March. Thoughts, input? Thanks!
  6. The same 100qt Igloo cooler I had on my first boat in 1996 is still doing duty on my current boat. It's taken a beating through the years and still works great! Sent from my XT1060 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. I launched at Mexico Point shortly after dawn and went due north. Started seeing large pockets of bait around the 100fow mark and fairly consistent out to 150. No fish, however. Temp was way up, trolled out to 250-275 to find 50 degrees. Turned west and trolled towards Oswego. Intermittent marks on screen. Currents were crazy. Fleas and "ankle biter" flies numerous, though. Steelhead fishing was good. It was definitely a spoon only day for me. Flasher/flies didn't move at all. Called it quits around 4pm. Sent from my XT1060 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  10. Mine came stock with 150' but I re-spooled them almost right away with 400'. Most of the time I'm only down 65-150, however there have been days during the summer I've had to venture out deep to find the Kings and have had to send the weights deep. The cost difference from a 150' to a 400' was minimal when I did the swap-out. This is one situation where more can be better. Sent from my XT1060 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Are there any tackle shops around Pulaski, Mexico or Oswego who carry the Yakima Bait brand? Their website doesn't show a listing of where to buy. There's a few items of theirs I'd like to try this season and can't seem to find any dealers. Thanks in advance for the help. Sent from my XT1060 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. Just saw this post. That's a shame. I started going to Jon's many years ago for alot of hard to find items and just for the friendly atmosphere. Sad news... Sent from my XT1060 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. I've decided to upgrade the Chartplotter/GPS on my boat this year. I have been researching extensively and was leaning towards the offerings from Garmin and Raymarine. I have a Standard Horizon VHF and wasn't aware they also manufacture Chartplotters and GPS units, as well. A lot of their models are very nice and loaded with quality features the others don't offer without a software upgrade or additional parts. Has anyone used or is currently using a Standard Horizon Chartplotter and/or GPS on their boat? I'm looking specifically at their CP170C and the CP1000C. Input? Thanks!
  14. When the time came to replace the top on my 221 Islander, I got mine direct from Starcraft. I went through my local dealer and got the top, front and side windows, rear drop curtain and the rear mooring top. Paid less than the quotes I was getting from local canvas shops and came with all new framework. All I had to do was line up the attachment points and the new top was on. It took about 2-3 weeks to arrive at my dealer after I ordered it all.
  15. You're welcome. Thanks again, Rusty!
  16. Good question! Yes, this is one of the final American-made reels. It has a 3.25:1 ratio.
  17. SOLD
  18. It has UV lights inside which allow you to "charge" your glow lures, flashers, flies, etc before you put them in the water so they glow under water
  19. Email sent
  20. I work in Chester Springs, just off the Downingtown exit of the turnpike. I'm here 7:30-4 during the week. Otherwise could meet you this weekend.
  21. Yes, I'll ship it for the $50 too
  22. I will accept a bank check, yes, prefer PayPal though. The $125 does include shipping.
  23. The line was originally marked every 100' with a black piece of heat shrink style tube, however majority of them have worn away.
  24. I am offering my "new" Charge Box for sale. This model measures 13"x8"x5" and has never had the batteries installed in it. It has never been used, but merely sat in a storage compartment on the boat during the season and in the house during the winter. I am asking $50 for it, which is less than I paid for it. I am also willing to ship to you and I do accept PayPal.
