I park there all the time and have never had an issue.

Intrepid anglers Chowder and Gill-T sparred with a frustrating screen on Chautauqua yesterday. After a mighty swing and a miss on the chute rigger pulling an large aggressive musky plug our adventurers turned their keen minds to target Wallye. Despite a determined approach on several promising pieces of bottom topography it was decided that the most promising angle would be to go after White perch in the deeper holes. Deep and shallow riggers proved unable to tempt these educated fish and leadcore drew no strikes but harnesses off small divers on 3 proved to be the meal ticket! PM me for more info and Bon appetit! 😜

When I’m trolling for early spring Lakers from the bar to Olcott and I’m covering ground I don’t mind not seeing lakers on the screen because I know they are there AND I’m covering ground. When I’m drifting with a 3 way rig off the bar I don’t mind not seeing fish because I know they are AND I’m covering ground. When I’m targeting perch in 60 fow on Erie or lakers in 60 fow on Cayuga I will definitely spend far more time looking for concentrated fish than sitting with the spotlock on making drops. The key difference between the first scenarios and the 2nd is the change in the environment that’s going on and that drives the increased % of a hookup. Some days it’s frustrating and in the end you do end up just fishing bait or likely spots but frankly it’s low % fishing- a lot like giving up on blood trail and starting to look for a dead deer. It’s not that ‘It’ can’t happen it’s just that it isn’t a proven, high %, strategy.

I have a Eagle 24.5 I/O. My tanks are 2 different sizes, factory plumbed for the main and the kicker that is in the ‘transom cutout’. I am not sure on tank size but I can check with someone

Yes, I drive by frequently on my way from work to the camp where I keep my boats in Olcott. I usually go in quite a ways. On successful hunts in remote public areas I quarter the deer and pack out on my frame pack in plastic bags. I typically walk in with most of my clothing in scent lock bags on same pack.

Copper vs weighted steel
chowder replied to hookedupf7's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
No comparison. Weighted steel is the only way to go. You don’t really need a termination kit though. I go Albright from braid to weighted steel then Albright from weighted steel to a short piece of power pro and then Albright to mono leader. If you don’t like Albright from braid to mono leader then tie the braid to a small spro swivel and then mono to swivel. I do it both ways and haven’t seen much difference. I do use 50lb braid. -
Former dairy farmer (used to a 1000 acres at his disposal but not no more) relocated in Lockport/Olcott seeks mature, experienced hunting partner with some familiarity with either or Tonawanda/Hartland WMA or someone who has access to private property.I'm also a part time Charter captain on Ontario/Erie so I probably have some insights/opportunities to offer in that dept.

I used to run mags inside and regulars w/ ring outside but I’ve gotten away from it . The mags are tough on everything at 3mph . I still use mag slide divers on Erie but speed is lower

Big boards are probably worth looking at. I run a shorter core or copper all the way out and a long core next . The other side a different shorter core or copper and then a different longer copper. For instance Starboard :150 copper, 300 copper. Port: 10 color core , 400 copper. As far as divers go I would recommend considering running inside wire divers with FF combos and outside slide divers with spoons or at least a SD on one side and wire dipsy on the other and let fish decide. As far as the riggers and meat goes , I like to mix there as well - deep rigger w/ deep meat + big paddle then stack spoon over that. Mid rigger with meat and 8” pro troll or spinny then stack a spoon at a different depth above than spoon stacker on deep rigger. Shallow rigger I usually stack 2 different size and color spoons.

Need details on how people have hooked up their Smart Troll probes
chowder replied to chowder's topic in This Old Boat
Thanks, that was the way I was thinking of going. In retrospect I am not sure I should have gotten this technology but I was in the process of setting both of my boats up to have use rear controls, the PanOptix tech, etc so I figured I would build the SmartTroll wiring into the setups from the start. I will attempt to relay my observations on the Gen II setup as soon as I get a handle on things -
just remember to include the trucking expense for the 1/2 ton of fuel you’re hauling lol.

Lakers off a diver?
chowder replied to HoundsNTrout's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Should have been with me this spring on my charters then. No need to be so sure you are right no matter what even if you have an investment in a certain presentation. I don't have a personal investment in any kind of presentation so when a specific presentation isn't working within my customer's time frame I start changing things around to catch fish. If by changing to a spoon presentation I get a Laker when I wasn't getting them with 2 different colored cowbell rigs at different speeds, I'm not going to say to myself; ' You know , I should find out if I was trolling the wrong way with those cowbells or try more colors because they are supposed to work no matter what'. Nope, I'm gonna do what I do with all the different gear and lure presentations I use, which is to run a mix of the stuff that typically works in the water I'm seeing the fish the I want in at that time of year and take it from there.
