  1. I notice that the pixel count on the color units are lower then some of the monochrome ones I am looking at is that not as important when its color I was planning on dual freq wasnt really thinking color but the more people I talk to the more I think I should go with color and more power . I see GPS can be added to alot of the humminbirds for 100 bucks
  2. great prices but I have to agree with chinook my first place is the slippery sinker go local .but would give them a shot if I needed something they cant get
  3. I take my 16 foot starcraft out all the time to 300-400 feet without problems just watch the weather make do with what you got or can afford Be safe and have fun the fish will come. If you dont have a speed and temp unit get one you'll be glad you did GOOD LUCK Mike
  4. I've run the sliders before but how do you hook it too a rubber band to keep it from sliding up . And what size rubberbands do you use are they just your plain old officemax bands or somthing differant I've heard it alot but have never seen how they are rigged
  5. Well at the risk of sounding like a moron (witch I am LOL) the head unit is broke . It does not power on anymore . I left it sitting on the side of the boat and pulled out of the drive and it hit the blacktop that was the end of it! Anyway it was a cheap older eagle that was due for upgade anyway. I was looking at a couple diff humminbird models and would like some input if anyone has it . Looking at the 580 combo with GPS for about $335 The 727 with GPS optional for $240 or the 565 with no GPS for about $200 I do have an older garmin GPS 12 handheld but wasn't sure if that would be good enough for marking or not . Never really learned it but I just got it out of the closet and seems to still work fine. I do like the ones with a higher pixel rate for better picture. Are the GPS units worth the money and if so is it better to go with the 580 witch has maps and can save routes or the 727 that I can add GPS but does not have maps or waypoints. The more I look at them the more confussed I get just need to buy one and forget it Thanks any input will help Mike
  6. I usually change the battery when it gets below about 8 v but 7.5 should be good .I had issues with mine the first year but mostly just learning it . Have had it for 3 years now and no other problems after figuring it out . I hardly ever run that deep but I would try the wet paper towel trick from what I've heard it works. I'm going out tomarrow I will play with mine a little and see how deep I can go Mike
  7. I've had mine down to about 120 without any problems .thats as deep as i've tried it so far. Do you run the coated cable? did you strip a section for the connection of the probe? Does your wire pass through the spring antana ? My buddy runs his with the antana taped to the rigger next to the line for easy removal and has problems past 75-80 feet . One other thing I've heard is to put a wet paper towel folded up over the spring when running deeper for better reception. just some thoughts .good luck MIke
  8. Was thinking of buying the 580 combo with gps . I can pick it up for about 340.00 was just woundering if anyone has this unit and how they like it . Seems like its a good price for a combo with the features it has . Thanks Mike
  9. just clip the slider to the main line below your rod tip and toss it over it will slide down your line until it gets to the bow and ride there. use a good ballbearing swivel on the spoon end and a duo lock clip on the line end. I've tried anywhere from 2 to 8 feet 4 works for me takes fish with less mess. Just what I do. MIke
