  1. I feel your pain, had my first wire Salmon, felt like my arm was doing curls in the gym for an hour. Got it to the back of the boat and we found out that the net was not big enough! only fit 3/4 in the net and it jumped out n around the downrigger cable and gone it was. Looked like a high 20's, so rookies as we were we beat ourselves up a bit but learned many things. Few hours later we had another chance but this time it was a double. With only two of us and the wind we managed to land both and not PO anyone around us. Its a battle out there and you win some an loose some, like a phone, down rigger ball, cuople bit off flys, screwed up some copper but we cant wait to do it again. Ended up 4 for 6 with a couple dink lakers and a brown mixed in. 95 - 120 FOW down 65 to 95 worked for us. Most hits came on hammer flys.
  2. Any advice about trying to run 2 coppers down the chute? Fear it may be problematic as its a lot of line out and not sure we can drive straight enough. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  3. Was out near Deans this morning exploring. Big Game 30lb no issues. 7 strand Mason for the wire Dipsay loaded up pretty bad. Funny thing happened as I was beinging in the wire. Noticed some loops and released the dipsey and let out to 400 ft. As I was cranking in, jsut past 300ft, Bam, I get a fish on! I swear it was clean when I relased and let the line ouit. Turned out to be a decent laker with eel. Was surprised cleaning off the feas several times it did not get off. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  4. Hey maybe that is how I can get the wife to troll, mix in some wine touring! If she starts doing the Jimmy Houston lip lock on the lakers I might think twice. Great report, sounds like a lot of fun. Sure looks like something hit that little guy you were dragging?
  5. Think 68 is a good channel but not sure my radio works too good. Will try next time I'm out. Your right on with my several years experience hitting the basin. Anything. Over 8lbs is rare, think I can only recall my best to be a 10lb. Suspect the deep water holds the bigger ones [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  6. Fished the extreme North end and took 1st laker in 37 feet. Ran all over all the way to long point with not much action. Went back to try the shallow north before going in. Caught 5 Lakers in 1/2 hour fishing 40 feet close to the bottom. No slobs but 4 to 6 lbs, time to smoke em! [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  7. It was a black with silver lightning strip red evil eye. I went out again Wednesday eve and the same spoon caught 3 lakers and a salmon, no size to any. down 25 and back 50 over 40 - 90.
  8. Still slow pickins for me but did land a nice 9lb Brown this morning. Great fighting and 3 surface shows. Was fishing over 90 feet and he took a sliding cheater that was around 20 feet or so. So much for needing to use boards and stealth? Now the same exact set up took a laker in 50 feet. Had a brown fillet for dinner with Emerils fish rub, very tasty!
  9. Fished North End Fri - Sun every morning. At around quiting time 11:00 am Sun found some good marks shallow, 50 -60 and lost two good fish back to back. One got off and the other broke the 10lb leader. Plan to see if they are still there Sat morning. Seen this shallow scenario work before but proof would be putting some in the cooler [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  10. Was out there as well for the first trip out from camp. Never had the dipsy fire but sounds like I was not deep enoigh. I had a cowbell set up that was working well set at 72 over 72-85. Scored a few salmon on a cheater. Did try some yellow birds for Browns in the early morning but only managed a pickrel. He was nice enough to hang around after biting off my stick bait so I could net him and get back my gear. Plan on going back out tomorrow. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  11. Where my boat is the temp stayed just above freezing and should tonight. From what ive read the wind chill temp below 32 will not freeze anything, only when its below 32 ambient. If it was not a 3 hr r/t ride I would follow your advice to be safe. BTW - The East side of cayuga looked like the ocean, actual breaking/rolling waves hitting the shore line.
  12. Surprised to see how many Brown Hunters were out yesterday. We only managed a decent Pike but only had riggers to work with and some long lines. Did not see a fish boated execpt a fly fisherman off a dock landed a dink. Beautiful day on the water though [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  13. Thanks for sharing the Monste r sighting. I've heard stories before, nice to know BIG surprises are still out there. Sorry about the bad landing, Only way to get over it is keep fishin! [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  14. Believe its the cracked spool problem, thanks for the help. Before it completely broke you could hear a clunking sound and feel some vibrations as it was retrieved. Factory guy said they should cover it and passed me several numbers.
  15. Anyone know what needs fixin if the cable reel is slipping? It was not too bad with 10lb balls n calm lakes but the last trip on Lake O was rough and we had to manually roll it up Hopefully it can be fixed as I bought used and only had them out a handful of times Thx [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

    Bear meat

You guys r too funny! We decided to carve up the head n claws and boil till it looked clean. then we were going to use the water for a new scent cover for going after big bucks. That was after taking to taxidermist for a shoulder mount. My brother and I hunt region 7s and bear season recently opened up there but we never thought this would happen. He ecalled me about 20 minutes left till dark "R u there?" I grabbed the radio and said I was in process of trying to grunt a nice buck back call you back later and turned off the radio. Well 20 minutes later and nno buck I call him back. When he said I just shot a bear I couldn't beleive it although they tore up moms garbage the other day and cleaned our little camp meat scull racks up from a few days ago. He waited for me to get there with the 4 wheeler before he climbed down. Now heres the wierd part that will make you think. He said he just got done doing some grunt calls and this boar and a smaller sow came charging up the hill right up to his climber. The big one did the two legged stand and sniffed him out. Then they did a little circle and on the way back broadside he let him have it. He siad it crashed away for a few scecnds then stopped. Afew minutees later two succesive death moans (now that we know it died). We found it this mornig 60 yrds away as we were not looking in the dark last night. He was never so excited to find that thing as he did not sleep at all last night. I had to bust him saying ya one uped me agin. The night before I bagged my first turkey out of that stand with a bow. He is a great hunter and how he kept it togther to pull off the shot after the thing checked him out amazes me, not sure I could do that. One of those days will never forget and appreciate the great Hunting we are able to enjoy together on mom n pops land.

  18. How does Bear do as table fare? I have heard they are not that good? [ Post made via Mobile Device ] [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  19. Last year caught Browns from Spring thu summer, usiing long leads off the ball in very shallow water. This monster was the best caught July 8th around noon hotter than any day this summer? This year even using planner bds caught only a few browns but the rainbows were numerous. I attribute the different weather patterns but sum it up as "thats fishing" as I have no idea why?
  20. BP, the holes/deeper water is what holds the fish but getting there is the issue. We scrapped bottom in our Kayak's crossing a couple of the shallow areas so at present water it would not be good. The launch area is called stillwater, off route 11 in kirkwood. Look for Stan's Welding and they have a boat launch with a self pay $2 fee. We do not fish that area but its big enough to water ski in. I hear you can get into some eye's on the south end of the deep water but never tried yet.
  21. No fleas but how about the fish? Plan to try and fish Sunday for the last time in 2009 as I am trailering the boat home. Since its on the trailer thinking about launching out of Myers. Seems everyone is fishing near T-Falls from the reports. Good luck
  22. Did the same trip again yesterday afternoon. Fish were not as willing but we still boated about 12 between us. Most of the fish were big. If we took our best 5 fish we would have been well over 20lbs! Used Ultra-lite gear this time so the extra effort helped to keep warm as it started raining around 3, then I slipped into the water retrieving my lucky rattle-trap that broke off. River is low but sounds like this week coming will bring it up some. Plan to fish again if we get some warm days that are too hot for Bow season.
  23. Great story, congrats! just tried Kayak'n for smallies Last week. And I thought the 4+lb ers pulled! Can't wait to try this with my bro someday. Can't imagine the scene this would be.... [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  24. Took a break from salmoniod trolling Cayuga to do some SMALLIE fishing with my brother on the Susquehanna. We used Kyaks and crankbaits. Together we we had about 35 hits and landed about 30. Many were 4lbs plus! Not that I am a bass fisherman but have put some time in....the river is hard to beat this time of year. I have bassed fished on Cayuga all summer but caught more fish in one day on the river than a season on cayuga. The one thing that is beat is me. Its hard to cast n crank that much after being a troller all summer long. We ran into a couple of guys and they had the same experience last weekend.
  25. Great advice here. Applied the Green Pro-troll with green hammer fly for a quick outing to Long Point this morning. Picked up 29 in on the wire at 240 in 300ft and a 30+ on the rigger down 87 in 195 F0W. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
