  1. Thanks for the info and advice. I have a pair of the standard size Yellow Birds as well, I've had them for three years and use them on the smaller lakes in my 16ft boat. My concern is pulling inline boards in 1-2ft choppy waters. I don't know if the Walleye boards, the OR-12's or the yellow birds would work well in those conditions. Never tried it before. I'm not running a mast and pulleys on my Crestliner, so I'm looking for a couple sizes of inline boards that will work in most conditions and for multi-species.
  2. Just wondering how many members have personal experience with the big TX-44 planer boards, especially with 12lb mono line, and trolling for walleye and brown trout with them. What are your likes and dislikes? Pros and cons? Standard clip (release) or the tournament series with the lock-jaw clip? I bought a pair with the standard clip last year but never had the chance to use them.
  3. I went to the boat launch in Sacket's Harbor NY last week, and even though it was froze solid, the water level wasn't high. I know that doesn't mean anything this early in the year, but seeing the water, or ice level, makes me want to remain optimistic for now.
  4. I run two Humminbirds on my 16' row boat and I don't get any interference between my two transducers. I have the transducers mounted on opposite sides of the transom. If you mount them too close to each other you will get interference between them.
  5. I'll have to check some local bait and tackle shops to see what they carry. Jann's looks like a good web site, judging from the little bit I've seen of it so far.
  6. Thanks! Never heard of them, so I appreciate it.
  7. Thanks again for all the info and tips, greatly appreciated!!! Where is the best place to buy supplies for making your own walleye worm harnesses?
  8. I'm not familiar with a folded or plastic clevis, so I will do some research, thanks!
  9. When making your own worm harnesses, what size and type of hooks, line, spinners, and beads do you use for catching Great Lakes walleye.
  10. From now on, it's aluminum boats with outboards for me. Everyone talks about having a "rough water boat", but I can't tell you how many days in 2017 that were too rough for 27ft fiberglass boats. Of course, I'm talking about the lake conditions from Henderson, NY north to the St Lawrence River. When it's too rough on Lake Ontario, I always have the option of taking my 16ft boat to a smaller lake for bass and trout.
  11. Matt, keep your Chris Craft with the Etec, or sell it to buy a bigger boat with an outboard. You enjoy early season fishing too much to switch back to an I/O that has to stay winterized until warmer temps are here to stay for the year.
  12. These shootings have nothing to do with the 2nd Amendment. Gun control is not the answer. Gun laws, like all other laws, only affect law abiding citizens. If guns we're outlawed only outlaws would have guns. The same way outlaws are still buying and selling illegal drugs. We know there are countless "assault style" rifles and high capacity magazines around this country that aren't being used to commit crimes. Hate the criminal, not the tool he uses.
  13. Hope you find a permanent and inexpensive solution.
  14. My Crestliner Sabre hardtop flexed a little bit in rough seas, so the previous owner added a 2x4 to the back of the hardtop. I know our hardtops are mounted completely different, but adding the 2x4 provided the side to side rigidity that the hardtop needed. There are some good suggestions thrown out there already, so just wanted to add a slightly different possible "fix".
  15. I use three stands made from 2x4's and attach three 2x4's (two are 8ft long, one is 10ft long) across the top to support a 20x30 tarp over my 22ft Crestliner Sabre. I use bungee cords to attach the tarp to my trailer. The snow slides off real easy. All three stands are built like the one on the bow. The two in the cockpit are 8ft tall and the one on the bow is around 5ft tall. I added pool noodles on the top two ends of the frame so the tarp wouldn't get cut by the ends of the 2x4's.
  16. I have a Garmin GPSMAP172C color GPS with external GPS antenna that mounts on a rail. It's a color GPS unit that works fine, but both of my fish Finders have GPS in them already, so I am putting the Garmin on the market soon. I also have a data card for the GPS.
  17. So, what you're saying is, the people in the fishing boat DID HAVE enough time to start the motor and get out of the way? Didyou watch the video and count the precious few seconds they had to react? Or are you just trying to stir the pot? Which direction is the bigger boat going to turn. Is he going to change course, or not, before he runs you over and kills someone? Is he driving distracted? Is he in the middle of a medical condition like a seizure? Does he have a mechanical emergency that made him lose control of the boat? Is he intentionally trying to run you over because he's gone bonkers? What's his next move as you try to start your motor and evade his speeding boat?
  18. The lady in this incident was wearing an inflatable pfd, and it did NOT inflate. I don't know why it didn't inflate, but it makes me question the reliability of inflatable pfd's. I wear a vest type pfd in my 16ft boat that is very comfortable to wear all day. It makes me consider having it readily available, hanging on the seat on my Lake O boat.
  19. I don't think the people in the small boat had time to fire up their motor and get out of the way before getting hit. They might have been anchored when they were hit, too. They had very little time to react and had to make a split second decision. But I agree, both boats should take evasive actions to avoid a collision whenever possible.
