The water has been lowered for dam work but caused no problems. Surface temp was low sixties. The fish were active early but just follows and short strikes. Finally found a dumb one around noon on a spot Justin showed me. One miss after that. Quit around 2. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Chautauqua Musky Season
old man replied to mostlymuskies's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
The weather has been goofy. I fished the SLR all last week and the barometer never went under 30.4. The surface temps were higher than in July! I could have gone swimming if i wanted to. No muskies, lots of so so northerns and one big walleye. Never saw a bass. Nice to get sunburn late in September but not great for fishing. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -

I'll chip in. The more little walleyes in there the bigger the tigers will get. I don't know if a state launch will crowd the lake or not. The access at the campground is pretty darned good. Sure $9.00 is more than a state launch but they have good coffee there and that guy has to eat too. If i want to launch before the store opens i can call ahead and let them know i'll pay later. Nice people there. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Unhappy with tiger muskie stocking techniques
old man replied to pro-fish-n-c's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
The only real difference between conesus and otisco is the pike population. No doubt the northerns chow down hard on the little tigers. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -

I watched them loading up tigers to stock at Conesus a few years ago. They filled tanks on a couple boats and took them to wherever they were released. In the process of loading a LOT of them got spilled out at the launch. They seemed disoriented and just kind of hung out there. I was tempted to net a bunch of them for our pond but didn't want to get arrested. A week later i saw a bunch of them in shallow weeds well up in the inlet. So i assume some were released in the shallow south end slop. From what i saw i'd say they spread them around pretty good. At least that day at that lake. Welcome flyguy and go bills. You should be able to get some tigers near the causeway from a canoe from now through ice up. Fish from the cartop launch to the marina and back. 10 fow or less. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Make it 60". I keep nothing anyway. The pike could use some help here as well. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -

mepps musky marabou in black and white with nickel blade will catch a bunch of pike. But they don't last long;the hair gets ripped out after a few fish and they get bent up. Ghost tails are good but come with whimpy hooks that get straightened out at the worst times. Double 8 rabid squirrels in brown/yellow with nickel and gold blades get bit a lot and hold up well. Fire tiger and border collie super girls are good too if you're in good enough shape to use them. I can't catch squat on tinsel blade baits. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
