  1. pretty good bite this morning from 8 to 10 am;then it shut down. caught 2,missed2,lost one,and had 4 others follow. one of the follows was a brute. the water there is very low. i was about 200 yards from the causeway, over 12 to 15fow;about even with break in the wall. there were no weeds there;i could see some stumps here and there. 2 other boats out. 4"nickle redeye
  2. i should mention this...in that pike spot when a ship goes by the pike really turn on;dunno why, don't care
  3. water was warm,70 by mid day. i don't want to bad mouth the rod maker,i've had that a long time and loved it til then. and my dog bites it now and then, may have cracked it. all the pike were caught on a 4" nickle redeye;the only bait you need to fish for pike.
  4. fished conesus today,7am to 1pm. caught 5 decent pike on spoons, nothin special. had one slow follow by a small tiger. water was 63. looks like this one had a cat for breakfast
  5. fished around clayton all last week. stayed at west winds cottages. real nice place with secure docks with power. could live without the 59 steps, though. tried for muskie alot, from blanket island to black ant island to 40 acres and back. again and again. depending on the wind i would troll one way and jig the other. caught a lot of pike that way, nothing huge. on tuesday i saw a muskie boated near whiskey island by trollers. thursday i got a musky to hit a black bondy near blanket island. at the moment of truth with the net in the water i hear"twack" and i'm just standin there with the net in one hand and half a rod in the other. my wife said"you paid a lot for that rod"to which i replied "not as much as i'm gonna pay for my next one" that incident was a real mojo wrecker;i spent the next two days beatin up on the pike population. this is a pike honey hole. i know it's blurry but the green circle is marker 227 at clayton yacht club. from 10 to 16 fow within 200 yards of that marker i murdered the northerns there thursday night and friday morning. caught about 25 there including a 38 and a 39. missed and lost just as many. unreal. caught all the pike on a 4"redeye
  6. stayed at west winds last week, they have a nice secure dock area with power
  7. almost september! can't wait. most of the jet-skiers are back at college, tubers are callin it quits, and toothy fish are gettin ready to put on the feed bag. got my hooks sharp,my reels respooled,my boat and trailer serviced. gota week booked at clayton in sept. and oct. 6th. off for larry's tourny. lets go get 'em. hope someone gets a 70 lber this year and puts the muskie record away.
  8. i did it the same way muskiesnpike did
  9. son number two[who can't fish his way out of a paper bag] was at blind bay all week with my boat. he casted in chippewa bay all week and caught a dozen dink northerns. he said his daughters caught 200 gobies. he said the water was 76 in the bay. the locals told him the water was the lowest they have seen in years.
  10. i did a little reading about it. i read the toxins are released when it dies from cold weather and heavy rains. the toxins that wash up on the shore can live for up to 5 months. i fish with a dog all the time now so i guess i'll stay clear of there.
  11. channel 10 reports today a blue/green algae bloom at conesus. i guess that stuff is pretty toxic;especially for dogs. with the cold nights i guess it will clear up before the fishing gets good anyway.
  12. not really sure where you'll be. cape vincent is a long run from grenadier island. anyway, here are some good spots;there is good pike fishing in the weed beds northeast side of carleton island. look for the duckblinds and hit the shoreline there. eel bay is a can't fail pike spot, look for taller weed patches in the many acres of short moss. the deeper center part of goose bay is good, just as you pull in. the rest of it is choked with weeds and hammer-handles. the area behind the castle is loaded with pike. you can count on one in the mouth of the creek behind the boldt boathouse. if your wife is with you try pike fishing in and around millionaire row. she can gawk at all the rich people's lifestyles and bug you about not making enough while you catch a few pike. the only bait you need for pike is a 3"nickle red-eye. throw out the front hook that comes on it,just grabs more weeds. if you are staying near grenadier and have a canadian license i'd say stay there and fish the southern side of it. i don't know anything about walleyes. good luck
  13. in the summer up there all the shallow weedy bays are loaded with smaller pike. bigger ones will be in the river. i have done well on the north side of wellesy island. work the shoreline and find points and rocks and anywhere there is a current break where they can rest while waiting for food. the river side of the robinson group islands at the mouth of eel bay is good. so is the bay at the state boat launch on wellesy. stay close to shore or you will be in canada.
  14. as you come out of the narrows into first lake there is a string of hazard bouys on the right that wraps around the first point. i caught the most fish staying on the bouys and casting in. when you get on the first point you can see another one about 150 yards away. there is a fabulous log home on the point with a half dozen wood bears on the lawn. i caught the biggest pike of the week off that point slow rollin a big fire tiger spinnerbait in 18ftow.
  15. made me sick to read that. the crack heads that frequent wal marts will steal anything.
  16. they have a great rule there...no jet skis before 9am or after 6pm
  17. fished around old forge last week. sunday i took the canoe to lake durant. same old story there,6 hours and nothin. the rest of the week i fished the fulton chain. pike fishing was good, caught about 40 over 5 days. most were 2 footers, with some bigger. biggest was 36. big surprise was the bass. caught about a dozen and none were small. this jug was 22". i caught all the bass and pike on yellow and fire tiger hair baits in shallow water. there was a bear around every day,got a shot saturday am. tuesday morning a bear tore into this building around 10 am right in town. the dec guy said there was a bee hive in the wall
  18. you may have seen an article in the d and c about the people educating us boaters about cleaning weeds and whatnot off our rigs to prevent the spread of invasive species. i ran into one at sodus recently. nice enough people who mean well but are p'in in the wind. i let him pick some crud off my trailer, listened to his schpiel, and left. what a joke. do they know the gobies and zebras got here on frieghters and those guys don't launch where they are working? what do they plan to do about the eagles, herons, geese, ducks, gulls, comorants, turtles, racoons, deer, etc, that go from one body of water to another? what about the carpet on my trailer bunks? how do i clean that? the guy told me to rinse my bilge out with bleach. so chlorine is ok to put in the water? i guess i'd rather have these nut jobs clean my trailer than be out registering the homeless to vote for obama. for the record,i clean my boat everytime i get home, but it's because i paid a lot for it and i try to keep it nice. i also flush my outboard everytime for the same reason. another tidbit: i dug a pond in 1972 and put a few bass in it. today it is choked with millfoil and overun with bluegills. no one ever launched a boat in it. nature does what it pleases.
  19. i didn't catch anything so it doesn't matter, thanks anyway. my son and i fished from 4am til noon. i was tormented by five follows without a hit. my son,who doesn't fish much and has never muskie fished got bit twice. the first one broke his line or bit it off. the second time was funny. a mid 30's fish hit him from under the boat at the end of a cast. he was yellin',the fish was on top shakin her head,i was yellin at him to take it easy while i went for the net. he decided he could swing it in...i was sure his wal- mart spin cast rod was gonna snap as he bashed the muskie on the side of the boat and she got off. it was the worst played fish since the first one i ever hooked. he's ready to go again, though. he may be one of us now.
  20. nice fish! what kind of camera do you use for the video?
  21. i will be happy to catch even one,but in the unlikely event i catch another how do i enter it since the tourny packet comes with one form? not that i expect it to be an issue. good luck, all.
  22. that's impressive! that's the kind of ingenuity that made this country great.
  23. son number four caught this bowfin at sodus tonight off the dock on a crab.
  24. nice fishin! is that a box of worms on the dash? i was in maine last week. check out this sign at the boat launch. i can understand the pike paranoia, but crappies and bass? another sign there said you could be fined $500 for weeds anywhere on your rig. this picture shows the ponds they have there at the end of the roads going to the lakes. the drainage ditches go in these. the wood structures keep the water calm so the water can settle before going into the lakes.
