  1. got out again for awhile. fished between reed's and kashong points. caught 2 pike,a pickle and a nice smallie on spoons. nickle red eye and a johnson minnow. nothin camera or net worthy but the ice is broken. wed,6/15 looks good. full moon and moonrise at 9am. can't miss(ha). takin a vacation day.
  2. tried the north end of seneca for a few hours after work. 70 degree water and no new weeds yet. nothin but bass. maybe if i target bass i'll catch a pike? 0 for 3 on esox this year. i suck.
  3. water is real high in your pics. when it's normal the spillway on the right in your photo won't be runnin. cross both bridges and walk accross the spillway and down to the base of the other one. use live bait there under a bobber for some nice pike. walk slowly accross the spillway;it hurts like h..l when you fall in.
  4. 10,000 tigers in conesus last year, almost 3 per acre. you would think i could catch one.
  5. i got out tuesday from 6 to 1. i moved one dink pike and that was the only esox i saw. i casted, trolled, and jigged rubber.nada! i did catch a dozen bass. water was 59. i forgot my ez pass. when i got to the toll booth i forgot i forgot my ez pass and went through anyway. sign said "call ez pass" but the number is on the device which i forgot so i can't call. i got off through the ez pass lane and got the "call easy pass "message again. screw it. i'll get a ticket in the mail. or my wife will;it's in her name.
  6. has been is right, the canal is underated. i live on it,in fact i can see it as i type this. i went out back for an hour just now with a can of worms and a grandson. tonight's catch included bullheads, perch, rock bass, sunnies, gobies, smallmouth, and a sheepshead. in the winter i can watch my tipups by the fire in here and catch pike all day. my wife wonders why i make a boat payment and drive all over hell to fish when i can do so well at home. she's not muskie sick yet so she doesn't get it.
  7. i entered twice awhile back but i can't make it. i have to be outta state on biz. i guess the ceo doesn't fish. if you want to give mine to someone who needs it feel free.
  8. when using live bait the old rule is let 'em run til they stop. when they go again you set the hook. that's cause pike take the bait sideways in their mouths, then hang on til it dies and then turn it in their mouths and swallow head first. with your daredevelle which only has one treble on the tail, the hooks could be swingin in the breeze during those 10 seconds to a minute before he lets go. like nitro said, hit 'em hard and then hit 'em again.
  9. wow,if you catch 11 in three days you don't need much of my help! getting bit without hooking up is real common with all esox. i've had days with a dozen of those "hits" and never hooked any of 'em. some of 'em seem to just want to toy with the bait. as far as deep hooks and bleeders go i'd say a daredevel would be an easier than most bait to take deep. maybe try a bigger one? i take the barbs off all my hooks which helps with unhooking.
  10. gettin hit on the first cast is BAAAAD karma. never get another one when that happens. you think you're gonna kill 'em but that's all she wrote.
  11. i've only been there a few times. not hard to catch average size pike there on nickle red eyes. i'm sure the johnson minnow works too.
  12. the walleyes i've caught there have been early morning and at last light. there are some behind the fire dept. in macedon also. there is a nice boat launch there into a spillway. pretty good current there. lots of smallmouths.
  13. i've caught a few in the spillways while pike fishing. they like the white water under the falls at aquduct park in palmyra. i know a couple guys that target them there. they toss black jigs right up to the wall at the falls. my wife caught a big one at the base of the falls at swifts landing on a white mepps spinner.
  14. fished conesus today from 6 to 1. early on the pike were following like crazy. could not get bit, though. just lookers, not so much as a bump. never saw a fish after 9am. water was 53,no weeds to speak of. nice to get out though. the first time out i always get a warm fuzzy feeling that it's so great to just be here i don't even care if i catch anything. that lasts about 3 casts.
  15. midnight? that's hard core. i ain't been up that late in 10 years. good luck to all tommorrow.
  16. you could launch at severine pt. on seneca and catch pike and pickles all the way to the next point north and the 5mph limit would not be a factor. i'm just gonna blow the first week off.
  17. they don't make those squirrels anymore so i had to make a batch myself. they're not works of art but they should get the job done. my hand is fully operational but numb all the time. at least if i get bit it won't hurt as much. i read on another thread that conesus was closed. i know cayuga is and seneca has a 5mph limit. might have to mow next week instead of fish, after i build a snorkel for the mower.
  18. i have to work all weekend so i won't get out til wed. countin on you guys for some info. water has to be colder than normal. twiched minnowbaits maybe? how bout those navy seals? tossed his headless butt in the ocean! usama BAIT laden. sharks gotta eat too.
  19. i got some baker baits at an auction last fall. i caught a nice lunge on one the first time out on waneta. GOOD STUFF.
  20. i got a new truck. it's got onstar so i won't have to use the anchor to get in when i lock the keys in it. and i got all new teeth so if i catch anything i'll be able to smile nice for the camera. i can't believe i was away from here so long i missed a lure auction. i had a tough winter, but i'm getting hot to go fishing now. i bought a bunch of stuff to troll with last fall but the $4 gas might keep me a caster after all. might do cave run in mid may. tried it two years ago in april and felt it was too early.
  21. like zach i have the love/hate relationship with waneta. when they're hungry i love it. when they're not i wonder why i'm there. 5 or 6 boats is a crowd there. it's too small and i only go there because it's an hour from home as opposed to three hours to chatauqua or the larry. every year i swear off waneta and end up fishing there because it's close to home.
  22. pike spoon? nickle red eye, hands down number one bait. johnson minnow number two.
  23. back in the 90's when fishing reports were just in the paper and on phone hotlines i fell for the report of tigers in oneida too. i fished there a dozen times or so and never saw one. i did catch a few northerns;including one pushing twenty pounds. there was also a report of tigers in oak orchard around then. never saw a tiger there either. i caught a bunch of pike there and got into some nice schools of gar a couple times at sunset.
  24. i could fill a couple tables with used baits i don't want. but lets face it,i wouldn't buy a used bait from me. i would never sell a bait i caught a fish on. i am basically a nice guy who wouldn't sell a crap bait to anyone. when i buy a p.o.s. bait i parts it out for spares. looking foreward to road rules. i need a fishing related activity other than buying stuff. i bought a swimbait from a guy in holland a couple weeks ago. if you do that you should see how much a euro is before you click on "submit and pay".ouch!
