  1. Congrats on your LOC fish, but if 29.12lbs is 20th place I have some harcore fishing to do this weekend??? Wow! Congrats again on that nice catch. The pics would be great to see.
  2. Right now I place them in a plano clear box and sometimes have two or three flies in a section meant for crankbaits etc. It's a tangled mess sometime and I know I am nicking the leader occasionally when I shut the lid. I want to upgrade. I'd appreciate it if you hade the chand to post those pics. Thanks.
  3. Sounds good. I may have to do that this weekend. Also what's the best way to store them after use. The Atomiks can't go back in the package they came in and the Siggs riggs have tubes, but don't seem to go in as nicely as they came out. Do you have any tips for storing them?
  4. I have acculmulated a fair amount of trolling flies over the past two seasons and the problem is that I usually run out of leader material before the life of the fly is up and I have about a half dozen of flies with less than 12" of leader material left. I looked into buying replace rigs for them and for $1.00 more I can get the whole set up brand new. I looked to extend the life of the flies by tying to a sampo swivel as opposed to tying directly to the "o" ring or clasp that is on the pro troll. Will this affect the action of the negatively and will this add a weak spot to my set up when the fish hits? Just wondering how most of you run your fly rigs? You feedback is appreciated.
  5. I appreciate the tip and have noticed that too on the older used ones that I had. The sad part was that I just bought the dipsey diver and snubber to replace one that I lost the last time up. That baby was brand new not in use more than a few hours. I did notice the DWs and have a clear snubber from Opti tackle. I just wanted to add the "green" to my set up since that is a hot color and I had it behind a froggy glo diver. At least I did not lose the whole set up this time.
  6. Fishing Report Gotta Bite ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 8/28-29, 2009 Total Hits: 6 Total Boated:2 Species Breakdown:Kings Hot Lure: Atomik Packer Glo Fly/ MoonShine Widowmaker/ NBK/ Crazy "b" fly Down Speed: 2.1-2.5 Boat Depth: 120-140 FOW Lure Depth: 85-110 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== My son and I were able to get on the lake for a bit this past weekend. The weather was not bad when we arrived Thursday night. We were able to land two kings on Friday morning. My son's came on a Black spinny with white crushed glo tape and green glo dots. Mine was taken on the copper rod which had 300yds and a White crushed glo tape spinny and was towing a Moonshine Widowmaker spoon. About 15 minutes later the rigger rod with an NBK mag spoon fires on a reel that I just noticed had less than 200 yds of line left on it. I just told my son minutes before that I hope if it gets hit that it's not a screamer. I can only watch the line run off tried stopping it with my thumb only to get burned and a big blister on my thumb as it was gone. The two we landed Friday were not big by most standards made for some nice fillets. Went back out for the early evening troll and we had the copper rod fire first towing a NBK mag this time. It screamed out about 200 yds and line went slack. I reeled it in thinking he busted me off but all gear was still on the line. ?? Then about a half hour later the dipsey rod fires with the crazy **** fly with a caramel dolphin spinny and the line is screaming out fast. My son can not even get the rod out of the holder there is that much pressure. He finally does and the wire line goes slack. Thinking again that I was busted off, he reels it in and everything was attached.?? We did notice that the snubber was busted. That was a big fish. Possibly could have placed in the derby. We'll never know. The weather fronts came in from the hurricane rolled in on Friday night and practically blew us off the lake. Could not even get out Saturday morning. The weather broke around 4:00 pm and it seemed like everybody headed out to fish at the same time. It was the calm before the storm. It looked as if fronts from the south east and west met and it almost turned into the perfect storm. The lake had went from glass to 4 to 6 footers crashing over my bow in about 2 hours. We did have one rod fire, but it was hard to tell with all the waves and bouncing around that was going on. We reeled it in and we were broke off this time. Ironically it was on a trolling fly I made my self earlier in the day from of bits and pieces of older flys. I called it the "FrankenFLY" .I revived it from the dead. Hooks from old flys, green crinkle body and tied on an old blue and green coho fly as a trailer 12" behind the main body. It actually worked except for the knot that I tied it with. It was clear to see that where it was broke off. That was my fault. There were reports on the radio of water spouts forming. So everyone started getting off the lake including us. Probably the worst seas I have been on in my life. But we made it back to port before it got real nasty. I could hear the waves crashing against the shore from my camp at Selkirk. It was nice listening to that whikle sitting by the camp fire. We'll be up again on Thursday. Maybe we'll do better this weekend.
  7. CB, Thanks for the input. We are heading up today. I'll post some pics if we do well (weather pending)
  8. CB, I have 300yds of power pro backing. I usually let out 50 to 100yds thinking that it may sink more with that much line out. I have only used the copper line setup one weekend so far this year with no luck. If the lake is somewhat calm this weekend I plan on using it more. Do you have better luck running a flasher fly combo off of it or just a mag spoon of Jplug. I ran both last time without success, but most people had little success that weekend also. They just weren't hitting and those that did catch them were far and few between with a slow pick here and there. Thanks for the feedback.
  9. After reading this last post I don't feel so bad. My last trip up was almost as bad we went 0 for 5 (didn't lose a probe though) but lost a dispey and a flasher spoon combo or two. I asked God above what did I ever do to him to deserve this. I guess that's just big water fishing. The more gear you have the more you have to lose. I share your pain but enjoy the scream of the line running off the reel. I think that's why we all are in the game.
  10. I have run my copper set up straight down the chute. Unfortunately my rod holders will no accomodate the reel lock that I have on the rod. I have been running it out of my front rod holder on my mag 10's when I have them out to the side of the boat. The rod had a nice bend in it as if it were it were running off the ball. I usually have all 400' of line and anywhere from 50 to 100 yds of power pro backing out with it. Will this affect my trolling depth or not?
  11. Congrats on those fish. At least you hooked up everyday. How many FOW were you in and how deep were you running lures?
  12. Thanks for the referals. I will check some of these places out I guess next week since I cancelled for this weekend due to the weather forecast. I toured Brennans a few years ago and was not impressed it's too crowded IMO.Also, I pass by Salmon Country on the way out to the lake on my boat. It looks clean and organized. Same with Bears Sleepy hollow. It looks clean from the roads but I don't think they don't have any shower facilities or rest rooms. We may or may not need them depending on what type of camper we end up with. Empty Hook, I just got your PM today. I have not been on the site since Monday. I just replied to it. Thanks again.
  13. My wife and I have been kicking around the idea of renting a seasonal site at a camp ground near Mexico bay. We stay at Selkirk 95% of the time and with that comes the hassle of constantly setting up and tearing down and having to be out by 11:00 a.m. The day of your departure which I lose a day of fishing usually. All the money I have we have been spending for multiple 3 day weekends , we could probably get a seasonal for about the same cost. We looked at a place near Sandy pond a few years ago but it lacked a view and breeze off the lake. I have since then got a bigger boat and a slip at Mike's. I was wondering who has a seasonal site in the area or if they would reccomend or tell me to steer clear of any campgrounds based on reputation. I was considering stopping by Chedmardo maybe this weekend if I have time. Your feedback is appreciated.
  14. Capt Spike, Congrats on your success . I did not have much of a fishing trip this last time up. Got out for about 9 hours in two days. Both days in the a.m. Didn't boat a fish. 1 or 2 releases on Friday morning and 5 releases while fishing all the way out in 380 FOW and trolling in to 140 on Saturday. Wanted to avoid the armada that was in around 180 to 140. My son and his buddy both dropped a fish. Mangled my prop good to while making trips in and out of Sandy pond with a bunch of people that camped with us this weeknd. It seemed the black cloud was hovering over me. Back up again this weekend with just the guys. No beach women or children to worry about this weekend. Just fishing morning noon and night. If I am skunked again, you'll probably be seeing all my gear in the classifieds. LOL.
  15. So you are sayimg that there is a strong natural reproduction of pacific salmon as opposed to what people and some books have stated in the past? That's great and I hope it is. Just want to put the myth or rumor to rest.
  16. Awesome boat! How could some one buy a boat like that and not use it for fishing is beyond me. Great find!
  17. Way to go! I think I will head out deep and work my way in. It seem that that are not in close yet.
  18. Both the coated line and regular wire line are jumping off the pulley when I am bringing them up at an angle. I just ordered replacement swivel head pulleys for them from fish 307. Price wasn't too bad at around $10.50 each. What do I have to lose at that price. I most likely won't have them for this weekends excursion, but should have them in time for next weekend. Thanks for everyones feedback.
  19. Nice job on the fish and the video. Things looked a little tight in the boat.
  20. Guys those two issues apply to my older mag 10's. I have the white pulleys so I will have to update them. The other was the I just put on some swivel mount bases and was running them at 45 and 90 degrees. I will just run them straight off the back until I replace the swivel head pulleys. Thanks.
  21. The Europeans in general hold carp in high regards. I was stationed in Germany for 2 years and was looking into fishing over there. It was crazy. You had to take a course and pass a test similair to that of being a fisheries biologist in order to be allowed to fish. The primary game fish were huge Pike and Carp. The town that I was staioned in even had a carp on it's coat of arms. To each there own. I'll take what we have here in the USA anyday than what's swimming over in Europe. Heck we have their Gobies swiming around here in the great lakes now.
