  1. So me and my fishing partner decided to fish the tournament today. Neither one of us has fished since the opener but we put together a game plan based on what we think and from past experiences. So we are immediately marking fish and start boating them. In no time we have a respectable limit. Over the course of the day we caught 21 eyes most all eyes were jigged up in 20fow. We finish a respectable 15th but just out of the $$. Now to some questions. We were short the big fish we needed to cash so what do you do? The program we are doing is catching fish but mostly cookie cutter 18",19",20 standards. Do you change programs and try another method like trolling ? Pretty sure some top $ Guys were trolling). Are eyes like perch? Where dink perch hang around with dink perch, will big eyes hang out with small eyes? By the size of the marks on the graph they do. I am down with the theory of big lures catch big fish but I also like to match whatever I'm using to the size and shape of the bait fish they are eating. Needless to say I didn't make any changes and went with the theory that we were just unlucky and couldn't hookup on a big one, but I can't help but wonder if I could have done more some how. I will say that there was one boat that hung with us almost the whole day in the same spot doing the same exact thing and they finished in the top 10. Lucky vs unlucky or just not good enough, I don't know but either way I'll be eating good. Threw in a bonus 14" perch😉
  2. Went out of maple bay and fished from 7-2:30. Tuff out there today. Worked hard to scratch out a 3 man limit. Largest one was 21" with 3 good size perch fry in his belly. Dropped 4 others but nothing to put on the board. Not a banner day but after talking with people back at the launch it seems we did well. Beautiful day though. Few carnage pics🎣
  3. went out in search of chrome this morning. Fished from 7-10:30 in and out from 12fow to 40fow . 2.6 up to 3.3 no real pattern yet. Managed to go 3 for 4 one miss on the boards 3 of riggers down 10ft. 2 came on black and orange needle fish other on a orange and white stinger.. Fish were full of orange ladybugs. Still a few weeks away imo.
  4. First fat walleye I have taken out of Oneida. 23" little over 3 1/2 lb. other was your standard 17" torpedo. Gotta get to otisco now that I have fish in the freezer, and search for a 10 lb'er .
  5. Bullet, I heard guys talking about them feeding and spitting out perch fry. The ones we caught had nothing and were empty. There was nothing in my live well either. The blade I was using that caught the fish looked nothing like a perch either. We tried perch colored jigs, cranks and spinners to no avail. What did you pick yours up on?
  6. Fished from 7-2pm in 18-21fow. Got our limit but had to work for it. 6-9 on eyes biggest was 22" 3lbs. Silver sonar was the hot lure. Reaction bite today, might explain the empty stomachs. Dixie spinners & worms did nothing, not even a perch. Nothing like otisco eyes but at least I got some fillets in the freezer.
  7. Went out of Oswego today. Conditions made it tough for us, boat speed was a pain in the @ss! Went east and played around in the 55deg. coffee. Went 2 for 7 A 8lb and 3lb brown, and a nice 3 lb smallie thrown in there. Lost a real nice brown first thing at the back of the boat. Purple and Chartreuse rouge took five whacks off the board in 12-20fow. Riggers were non existent today. Maybe next week I keep saying... one had I think a sunfish for dinner the other was stuffed with gobies.
  8. Will split up. $60 a pair. Sold 2 tonight. 6 left. PM me if interested.
  9. Have 8 Diawa 27H reels there is 10lb mono on them. Rods were mixed, 4 Diawa great lakes system, 2 Diawa regal strike, and 2 White I forgot what they were. These were spare rods I've had in the basement for the last two years. Figured I would keep them around in case of emergency but I haven't needed them so on the classified board they go. I live in Syracuse but would ship UPS if you want to pay the freight. $250 for all 8 of em.
  10. Nice job. Had a few problems with weeds last night also. Keep the reports coming!
  11. Ya love those cheeks! I call them poor mans scallops. Forgot to mention I caught about a 1lb rock bass.
  12. Launched the boat at 9:30 headed down the west side. Found 2 nice eyes down 15ft over 25-30ft. Fish both came on a firetiger off a rigger 10:00 and 10:15. Had a couple of other hits but no other other hookups. Took a few pics, my fillet board is 24" long to give a better idea on size. That lake has gotten the better of me many times, it's nice to come out on top once.
  13. Never did well down rigging for bows in the summer, but if you try it find the thermocline usually down 40-60ft and fish around there for them. Good bow action usually doesn't start till October that's the fun time. Down rigging for Lakers at this time on the other hand can be quite good just lots of smaller ones, right on the bottom. Ditto what Sammy said. I'm usually off the water by 10am unless its cloudy I might go to noon. Good luck
  14. I caught two 18" walleyes in the last few weeks on Oneida drop shotting senkos for bass. We were following schools of bait (by way of birds) chasing active feeding bass. After catching lots bass and before moving on I noticed on the fish finder there were still lots of marks under the boat. I dropped the senko down to the bottom under the boat and low and behold walleye on right away. Both times is was the same presentation and same result. The total amount of time I spent on doing this was maybe 2-3 minutes as we were bass fishing a tournament. I might give it some more consideration next time I go in search for waldo. Just my experience.
  15. Took a nice Steelie yesterday out of Oswego. 14.9 lb and 30" also did 3 teenage kings. I would post more info but I know the tourney is this weekend and it might not go over well. I am glad though cause my personal best steelie is 34" 20.02 lb which is on the wall and I really don't want to mount another right now Here are the before and after pics looks delicious.

Had the day off today so I wanted to check out things on Skinny. Arrived at the lauch @ 6:30 and with nobody there yet that told me all I needed to know, still to early. Launched the boat and tried the east side went 1 for 2 on bows. 17" and the one I lost was about the same. Orange & Black needle fish & perch rapala off boards took the hits. Should be happening soon. Handful of guys perch fishing. I guess I picked the wrong fish to target today.

Too early yet. Needs another couple weeks for the temp to be right for bows up top.
  18. Been hearing good reports on walleyes on Oneida so I thought I would give it a go this am. Launched out of the South Shore boat launch @ 5am. Fished between buoy 121- 123. Tried between 30ft - 17ft Tried every color jig they make with a worm. Also ran bottom bouncers with dixies and rapalas. Fished till 10am with a grand total count of 1 sheephead 1 smallmouth and 1 sunfish and a big 0 for eyes. About 9am the DEC boat pulled up to every boat close by and checked licenses. Was a little happier when they told me that everyone they checked was not doing well either. 1 or 2 here and there. Still a little disappointed cause I marked fish and fished hard. Pretty sad when you can't get an eye out of Oneida when the fishing reports have been good OH well.
  19. Thanks everyone, it was definitley a life time memory. She could not stop talking about it and she couldn't wait to get back to school this week and show & tell everyone! She is already asking when the next trip is and can't wait. Dave Figura ran an article on the Syracuse.com site and I think her pic might be in the Syracuse Post Standard this week. I'll try to post the link. http://blog.syracuse.com/outdoors/2012/ ... l_has.html
  20. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):4/13 Time on Water:9-11am Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction:10-15 NW Waves: 2-4 Surface Temp: 47 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 8 Total Boated:6 Species BreakdownKing, Browns Hot Lure: Trolling Speed: 2.2-2.8 Down Speed: Boat Depth:10-25 Lure Depth: 4-6ft ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Well I kept telling my daughter I would take her out fishing on her week off from school, (a father daughter day). Weather was finally good enough to get out for a little bit and that's all we needed. Set up in the harbor, usual sticks on boards and riggers parked @ 4 and 6ft. Just rounded the breakwall and 4ft rigger fires. Line is rippin and this fish is headed for Canada! My daughter grabs the pole and the battle is on. After 20 minutes she said I need a break. I fought the fish for another 15 minutes and got it close to the boat, then handed her the rod and said finish what you started. She did a great job getting the fish to the net and landed a 21lb King It was quite the chore on the light Brown trout tackle with 8lb test. Went on to catch our limit of Browns and kept a 3,5, and 8lber. Now she has a story to tell about what she did on spring break ====================
