  1. I took the day off to try and finish getting my firewood split and stacked, kept getting sidetracked, dryer broke, headed to Honesdale for a new one,got back ,hooked it up.......almost finished the wood ...but the river ,and a bald eagle were calling me . So fishing I went (about 4:30). The river was up a bit and a little "chalky", but really a nice ,decent ,fishy level. The eagle flushed from his perch as I got to water, a local, native ,immature one, who has been here since he/she was born, just downstream from me, a few years ago. He circled me twice, then headed down river. That bird was cackling , screeching, and making a racket all afternoon, Iguess the fishing was slow for him. I started casting and got donked by a walleye on a plug, on like the third cast. Good sign. Decent fighter , and nicely colored "lil "eye about 17 inches. Took awhile for my next hit, hard fightin' river smallmouth about 14". Right at dark , two more small walleyes, hit my "night" river plug.Nothing big yet.....then I let it the plug swing a little too far down, felt the plug digging into the rocks, then the rocks came alive with a fish pulling drag ! Worked 'em back nice and as beached it, there in the moonlight was a 20"+ sucker , which I managed to foul hook near the dorsal fin. Things shut down for me, and I quit by 7:00p.m.. Just before leaving, I shined the headlight into the water and saw a nice sized fish , tight to shore, in about 10 inches of water....no glowing eyes, so i got real close to it , spooked and disoriented it , but it stayed right there. A brown trout, about 20 ", full of cotton ball sized fungus all over it. Real sickly looking. Maybe it made a nice meal for mink or eagle today. ...........................steve

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: choo-choo steve/// icedd ============== TRIP OVERVIEW Went up to walleye heaven, BOQuinte , for our second time, and had another good trip.Trollingwas slow for us on saturday, trying to get a pattern going was tough,we had 4 bites and landed 3 , one was 28 " ,8 1/ 2 ,pounds, the other 2 were 23 and 24 inches. Sunday morning started slow, but by midday we started to get some hits, a miss, a drop, then two about 24'', then later we found a jumbo, 301/2 inch over 12 LBS !! We only had Monday Morning left...and it turned out to be good...4 hits / 4 fish ,....30 " 10 1/2 lbs,....29 " 9 + lbs , and the other two in the mid twenties. It was tough to pick up those boards, and head in to come home. That place is real special, the people are sooo nice too. I can't wait 'til next year...'gonna try to make a couple of trips in 2012........steve (gonna try and post a couple of pictures) Date(s): Time on Water: Weather/Temp: Great...for late NOV. 5. Mark....some real beauties.....Were they caught in Oct. or Nov.?? Just curious, I would like to make more than 1 trip up there next year. Glen , thanks....you should head up there and get you some.....the foul weather won't bother you...I saw your early season , windy, freezing, snowy, icy, Lake O Brown Trout posts !!! You the man!!!Awesome!!! Man , I can icefish all day in foul, windy, snowy, teens to upper- twenty temps, with no shanty, and stay comfy....but out in the boat, in those same conditions can be tough!! You can't move around , and stay as active and warm in the boat, like you can ice-fishing.

    augers

Gambler...you are gonna love it!!!!!My partner icedd got the jiffy propane last year....incredible...reliable... fast...no messy, smelly gas...no2cycle exhaust fumes...no choke, starts 1 pull everytime,in all weather conditions we ran into !!!It got to the point that I would not even bother taking my strikemaster 2 cycle off my atv , I would just grab Daves (icedd) propane Jiffy, drill my holes...and his too!! I can't remember exactly, but the amount of holes you can drill with one little 2.99$ propane cylinder was unbelievable. Richard, and everyone...I highly recomment it. Propane is definately the fuel for my next auger...................steve
  7. Thanks Musky Bob...hopefully there will be some pictures.... you never know...we only have 2 1/2 days to fish again ,and the weather can mess things up and those walleyes can be real finicky, as you know ....would love to get one like Laker John and Superdad !!!!....................steve
  8. here are some pics from last Nov with icedd
  9. Beautiful .....absolutely beautiful............................steve
  10. Big Dave....that fish had one messed up upper lip....a face only it's mother could love !!
  11. Musky Bob...Happy Birthday!!! I hope you have many more...........................steve
  12. Capt. Vince...I think you are probably right that it was split open and healed over when it was young...I felt bad for the fish when I caught it, and thought about it going through life like that....I am guilty of being hasty and rough sometimes while "shaking" and releasing small fish.....i am going to a little more gentle and careful from now on.....choo-choo steve Gambler....upper teens, nice laker.... I guess they learn to adapt with their deformities, maybe have to hunt more often due to not being quite as efficient...steve
  13. Great job ....beautiful fish...I hope the fishing is good the last weekend of this month!! Myself and icedd are heading up there for some of those monster eye's. We went up last year for the first time , and had a ball.We just missed winning first place in the derby sponsered by Kevin ? from Merland Park in Picton, we took second place money with an 11 1/2 pound eye that was 32"! A truly amazing fishery, but the weather can be brutal , as you know !!! If your gonna be up there ,give us a shout, would like to talk with ya's and compare notes. Again, great job....choo-choo steve
  14. I caught this salmon back in october and was amazed that it could get so big and reach maturity with such a deformed mouth, nose and jaw. One tough and determined fish....could it have been ripped apart, mishandled as a skippy? What do you think...choo-choo steve
  15. Pete....please do not go near the Canadien line with that rig !!! .....awesome sept. harbor combat trolling rig for sure !!!
  16. good advice guy's...i would also like to add ... when you're in the boat ,never lace up your boots , especially winter boots all the way up,never more than half way and tie them loosely, so you can kick them off quickly if you fall in. be safe...choo-choo steve
  17. Happy Birthday Pete...hope it was a good one.....and hope you have many more !!!! steve
  18. The smaller size sabiki's work good on alewives....been doing it for years at night on pepacton res. in the catskills. You want to try something else that works too.... at night , with a ice jigging rod, use a single ,tiny, bare, like size 20 ish gold salmon egg style short shank hook, with a small split shot up 6" ,or drop shot style below hook, get the school of alewives up in your lights, then pick one alewife out of the school and jig that bare gold hook in front of him, stay with him,and keep jigging it round and round in front of him to aggravate him into hitting!!! It's a blast! Sometimes another alewife will come busting out of the school to slam the hook! Like fishing for miniature shad! We would just do it for fun sometimes to while away the time on those long nights, with sometimes long stretches of no trout bites. A tiny treble with a split shot works too, just rip it up through the school repeatedly to snag them, but it is not legal in many areas.....keep the bleeders in a seperate bait bucket. have fun,........................choo-choo steve
  19. Ray , as far as getting a Big Boy Bomber Buck out there......like your Dad said "If it's meant to be , it will happen ".....again, good luck.................steve
  20. Nice story Ray.....now get your bow and gun tuned up and dialed in !!! (you probably got them zeroed in already)Good luck out there in the land of the giants . Keep us posted . ..............steve
  21. nice...interesting....thanks for sharing your story
  22. Mower.....the older ,faded leadcore won't fish differently than your new leadcore,as Vince said....as long as it is the same brand and pound test leadcore. Could your old leadcore be a little shorter by a half color or more from making repair splices over the years ? If you have made repair splices in the first few colors, that could be the difference in productivity. I have a "full" core that is a little short due to repairs. I have to remember to compensate ,and let out a little more line. You can test your old core to make sure it has not worn out or rotted to weaken it too much. Try cutting the leadcore, stripping the lead back a ways , then pull hard on the sheath, or knot the 2 sheaths together, and pull.....if 27 lb. sheath breaks easily, get rid of the worn out, rotted colors. .......steve
  23. This epic Red Sox collapse is a good lesson for all fan's , especially Boston fan's this year....don't go boasting about how good your team is , and how you are gonna win the pennant and steam roll through the playoffs to a world series title, in August ... with over a month of games left to play!!!! Have some class , don't celebrate and boast until AFTER you at least make the playoffs . .... Just a reminder for next year........ choo- choo
