  1. Do not be intimidated.Be respectful but You have as much right to the lake as anyone. I might have to make a point of being his shadow for a while. But thats just who I am. I have played chicken with a few captains in my day while combat fishing. Cut off a dipsey once. All part of the fun of fishin in the pack.
  2. Ah yes, the Rhys Davis Super Teaser strips. Now THAT was meat. Looked like bait. Felt like bait. Was thick . Had to stuff it into the bait head. Not like the Erie Brand I have been using, but it works, somewhat. Kind of looks & Smells like a Blind Robin to me.
  3. Got out for a few hrs this morn. Fished 80 - 130 & Did a 30 lb , 22 lb, & a 10 lb steel & dropped another. All on dipseys. .5 &1.5 settings 280 & 300. White glo/ hipnotist & white mtn dew / glo green fly. Was fun.
  4. It is my experience that every day that goes by now ,the fish become more & more finniky to catch, Try not to "Crowd the zone or put to much stuff in the strike zone. Also I don't like to mix what I have down to much. I stay for the most part with what is proven for me in the past this time of year. My best setup the last few weeks is A flasher fly or meat on one out & down & A spoon ten feet below & one ten feet above the flasher on the other side. I will run one or two dipseys w/ flasher fly or meat & that is it for the most part. Hart to beat a silver & black green glo spoon in 28 or mag size. Glo frog or Lazer spook. Flashers for me are a white crush glo /mirage fly or white mtn dew & glo or hypnotist fly. leads of 25-40 ' for me Fish the marks & below them. Good luck & be patient. If you see bait & fish and they don't hit turn & attack them from a different angle & do slow turns over them .
  5. Put them on a bait head & Troll them behind a flasher. Might be the latest & greatest.
  6. Sat morn did 4 kings from 95-130 ft from 80 -100 down.Sun had to go see what all the fuss was about out deep so we ran out to 250-425' And did four more .Took my son out Sun Afternoon for a few hrs & stayed in 100'and did two more close to bottom Made me wonder why I went out deep. Fish were all kings , 4 over 20- 29lbs. Dipsy w flasher & on riggers .sz 28 Spoon hand painted slv/blk green glo yest afternoon. Thought we did well considering it was pretty flat out thereW/high sun. Counted 47 boats out deep yest morn.
  7. My favorite rigger rods are the Fenwicks I made years ago & still use. 8.5 & 9' steelhead blanks. But you can buy a rigger rod a whole lot cheaper than making one.
  8. Temps overated IMO . Fish are cold blooded. They are where they want to be & they are where they need to be. If the bait is up in warm water, they go get it. If they want sanctuary & where they feel safe . they go deep where its cold. Fish thru & below the bait . Fish the hooks.
  9. I fish a lake up there & have found the fish to be pretty finnicky as to color preference. I like dark colors for plastics & Golds, Blacks , & oranges for spinners & Crankbaits. If I could only have one it would be a #5 mepps aglis gold w/blk bucktail. Others I use are Spinnerbits w/ Gold or Orange blades & Black skirt . Twitch a Stickbait over the weeds. Weeds to me are key up tjere for pike. Also there is a better bass bite in the morn, then the pike turn on. Senkos are my go to rigged shakey, Blk , Green pumpkin or Watermelon w/ maybe purple or red flake. Hope this helps & Good luck . I will be headed up end of the month to MY happy place. Weeds are key. Fish edges & over them .
  10. Worked AM & went out with the Bro around 3 pM .Fished from 80 -110', 70 - 90' down . 210 on the diver. Spinnys did a lot & Mag spoons Blk Glo Green .About 10 shots w/ 6 landed 2 Steel the rest kings to 25#. Lost one on the dipsy that just about spooled me. Next fish on the same rod took my Mirage fly. Seem to be doing better afternnoons than morn. Will be back out in the morn so we will see.
  11. I find king Salmon to be super aggresive at times & very skittish at times, kind of like a fox . There are times that even when fishing down to 100 ft I will run the spoon back 100'.,and this has saved the day for me. If we see fish & don't hook up we will run our spoon set back 75' or farther and sometimes it works well . Especially this time of year. But generally 15 - 25' to start.
  12. Sometimes I wonder what these lumber salesman are thinking. Did not get the delivery so called my Bro & did the afternoon run. Started in 80' lots of bait w/ a few fish around but no takers. Slid out to 140-160 & it was Game on. About a dozen hits w/ about 9 landed, a steel & the rest kings ,3 in the high teens ,largest about 23 lbs. 1/2 hits on Cut Bait /Flashers 1/2 spoons, Mag Hand painted Pirate glow frog W/ some kind of holo tape I got at Fat Nancys was hot. Riggers mostly 80-100' SE troll. Fish are starting to turn colors a little.
  13. I love to use J from about a week from now till the end. I like the # 4's in glo green flo w/ ladderback( looks like you have few & silver bullets , Also pearl w/ black dots first thing in the morn . I like to change out the cadmium pltd hooks to a 1/0 eagle claw l 374. I tie direct w/ no swivel so if I snag bottom & break off I can retrive the plug, Done that many times. I like run them on riggers when I see fish on bottom over 40' ft. 35' back & 8'-10' off the bottom. Caught an awfull lot of kings that way. I also like to run them 125-250 ft back on my outdown riggers and do a lot of lazy turns. I use to put dodgers /squids on the inside riggers 15-20' below. Did not get many on the dodgers but when I took them off , I got less hits on the Js . I think they would come up & look at the dodger, veer away & see the J plug & hit it. This works great for me when combat fishing outside of the pack when the fish get driven out by the traffic. Misnomer that you have to go fast when using them. I get a lot of my hits on the inside of the turn rigger as it stalls the plug & is floating back to the surface. Good luck.
  14. Surface temp helps me a lot in certain situations. Early inshore brown bite, look for warmer temps . Summer when lake sets up , I use it mostly when the lake turns over , I head north till I hit 65 degrees & keep going till I hook up. I fish marks & bait. I use my handheld GPS for SOG , my home port so I can get back in in the fog, & man overboard to mark a hookup & stay on that spot. Mu attitude about why I fish has change for my over the last few years. I want it to be about my knowledge instead of the equipment I use. I am living proof you don't need the best of everything to catch fish.
  15. I have an Eagle Ultra ( 1995 Version) w/surface speed & temp, I also have a hand held Magelan GPS. Also a permanant VHF Radio on my 21' 'hardtop . No down speed & temp, although I must admit, There are times I wish I had it. I feel I do as well as most on the lake & better than most . The Electronics are tools to help you catch fish, but nothing beats angler expertise. Knowing What to use when , and most importantly,WHERE. Location is the most important piece of the fishing equation IMO. I learned long ago it's not the tools, but the guy using them.
  16. I have learned the hard way that sometimes you have to know when to say when. Do not wait till the last minute to take it to a pro that will know what is wrong quickly . Guessing & throwing parts into it may cost you more in the long run than fixing it right the first time. My vacation means a lot to me & I want no problems. Just Sayin. Good Luck.
  17. I use to go up there quite a bit about 20 years ago. Did pretty well up there. Fished the Kemptville area. Kind of looks to me like that is where you are holding that Tiger. About halfway between the two big bridges & the single before the river gets narower. Won a trip from Joe & fished the Ottawa river. Went across the TI bridge 2 hrs after Bush bombed Iraq . That was an adventure. He sure likes those big Spoonplugs.
  18. Been having some trouble w/ my outboard. Worked on it & dropped it in the canal at the launch west of Brockport Sat noon & this morn again. I forgot how good the fishing can be in there. In about 3 hrs fishing the last few days I think I landed about 30 Smallmouths & Rockbass & lost more than a few more ,one I think was a walleye. . I got a few 14-15"ers but most were smaller fish . A lot of action for some fun. Drop shotting small brighter senco types were the best w/ Shaky head a close second. Transition areas from straight wall to rock were best. Did best at the widewaters & spillway .
  19. Took it out bassin this morn & gave it heck on the lake. Seemed to run good as new. I'm happy.
  20. The best knife is a razor sharp one. And A diamond hone or good steel to keep it that way.
  21. Put rebuild kit in carb & cleaned as good as I could. Needle valve did not seem to be working properly. Was leaking gas out of carb when I pumped it before , now it's not. Changed all hoses from carb to hose connect on motor. Put back together & test ran, Adjusted, Started & idled great in driveway w/the muffs. Will give it hell tommorow. Thanks to all for the input.
  22. 20 for 3 days of fishing on & off . lost more than a few more. Senco's 3" & 4" mostly . 1/8 -1/4 Bass casting or Dropshot wt. i use a 7' spin rod w/ 6# .When the wt hits bottom ,thebait is weightless & looks good to fish IMO. U-Tube drop shot & see.
  23. I don't know about there but my best bait for bass in the weeds& shoreline/docks this year is a 3/16oz tungsten worm wt 3/0 wide gap worm hook & Berkley Pit Boss green pump purple flake. Goes thru anything & catches fish.
  24. I have two tanks & it does it on both , but I will check again, thanks. My wife was born in Kingston.
