Started with clear cold water off Stony and quickly ran west to Sandy. Found water with good mud line and a couple degrees warmer. Hit a couple fish so worked the area a while and popped a couple more. All on sticks, bright colors. Things then went dead and we were unable to connect again. Don't believe the eat wind helped. Only saw a couple other boats. ====================

  3. Love the photo and smile. Can't beat taking a kid fishing.
  4. Keep getting those kids out there. They sure make it fun.
  5. I may try off Stony, closer to home. may even troll with fly rod. Looks a touch rough next couple of days but not bad from Wednesday on.
  6. Ryan. We struggled a little yesterday 7 for 11. Casting definitely works. I've been thinking of bringing some spinning rods and trolling to locate a pod of fish and then casting. Cleos work pretty well but but many things would probably work. Also thought about fly rod with streamers.
  7. What a great catch . We had a harder time locating them today. Went 7 for 11 but it was still a beautiful day on the water.

  12. Mike, I still haven't made it out but expect to this week, if weather cooperates. I may be out that weekend also. Give a shout on the radio if you are out.
  13. I use the Off Shores and they work great. Can be fished everything from spoons, sticks, cranks, spinner and worms and even will take some deeper presentations like wire, drop weights and lead core. Stagger the drop backs, running longer on outside boards will avoid most tangles. Deadly on spring browns and deeper fall walleyes. Can easily run three per side. I've got a mast but when fishing by myself or with a buddy, I generally run Off Shores as they are somewhat easier to handle. It's not to hard to learn to use them. I prefer to leave rear clip in place and unclip them at the boat instead of rigging them to slid. ( just my preference) I always have them on the boat!
  14. I always fishing it the first week of the season and do well catching post spawn fish in 12-20 fow on bottom bouncers and spinner and worms. The web site is kinda quiet now but once the season begins there will be many useful reports that will post more up to date general information on what's working and where. You might not get specific locations but it will certainly get you headed in the right direction
  15. I've used a Borax, non iodized salt and brown sugar cure I found on line and had good results. just freeze them and they last a long time, particularly when vacuum sealed.
  16. I always trailer over from Alex Bay. As Superdad stated, Quinte fishing web site is a great resource with a wealth of information available not only on lodging but also on fishing for the eyes. A great bunch of guys that will point you in the right direction.
  17. Thanks for the great report. You guys definitely earned those fish cause that wind was cold, even on shore. I'm waiting for a tiny warm up and will head out. Sure will be nice when we get a light wind and 60 degrees.
  18. Getting closer to your target date and weather has been very cold. Nights nave been down in the teens the last week and next week seems little better, especially with the accompanying north wind. The water hasn't warmed very much and we need a wind change and some warm days and perhaps warm rain to change things around. That said, things can turn around in a hurry. As stated, west of Stony can be very good. I generally fish from Stony area all the way to Oswego area and trail my boat to area holding warmest water. I usually check out web sites to get undated satellite surface temp as a guide. I had good luck with browns, and a few lakers and Atlantics last spring.
  19. Although it's been cold and somewhat windy the river is clearing and I was able to get a boat in a couple times. Saw the first ship go through the seaway yesterday! Did about a half pail on Tuesday and a third of a pail on Wednesday( No limit in Jefferson County) in a few hours fishing. Not great but a few waves came in. Mostly 8-10" fish and a few larger although you do have to sort through a bunch of dinks. Looking forward to some warmer weather but mother nature appears to be taking her sweet time. Icy guides are a real pain.
