  1. I slightly disagree and have killed numerous divers from my float boat although it can be difficult. Ive shot Buffies, Scoter, Broadbills, Whistlers, Oldsqaw, Eider, Mergansers, and Redheads from my boat, some near shore and some offshore. I too have gone to using longline rigs for easy setting and pick up. Many times divers prefer their own species so I tend to set them in separate groups but it often doesn't matter as they will generally give your rig a swing even if they don't commit. Puddle ducks are are another matter. Although you can kill Blacks or Mallards near shore if your boat is well camouflaged. Being wary, they are difficult to entice offshore as the boat stands out. They will generally land outside your set, if at all, although they may swim into your decoys. You can't kill them on the couch. Good luck! Tomorrow I'm headed to Western NY for a few days for my last ducks of the year.
  2. Hunted Cape Cod this week and aside from Eiders in the Canal not many birds around. I did manage to shot about 10 Buffies.
  3. I hunted Oak Orchard the last weekend and aside from a few scoter and Oldsquaw we saw very few birds. Looking forward to a better late season.
  4. Well norther season ended today and it was a very disappointing late season. Got into a few divers a couple weeks ago but they disappeared and no new birds took their place. Very few birds on the St Lawrence and I even traveled to Oak Orchard on western end of Lake Ontario and there were few birds there also. I'll be hunting in Cape Cod over Christmas and late season in Western NY in January. Hopefully some birds will filter down by then.
  5. I finally was able to access some photos from my cell phone. Two early season goose hunts netting 36 and 55 birds (7 hunters). Two late season goose hunts with a 12 bird limit and 3 banded birds out of 8 killed and finally a Lake Ontario diver shoot. All were taken within an hour of my home. Thanks to my good friends that make this type of shooting possible!
  6. I enjoy hunting sea ducks but was wondering if you know of a good way to eat them. I've tried a few recipes but none have panned out. Best I've done so far is to grind them and mix with some pork and make into sausage or jerky.
  7. Limited out on Bufflehead and Whislers this morning on Lake Ontario. Jumped a huge raft of Broadbills on the way in and saw some Longtails as well.
  8. Looks like a great outing. What part of the lake were you hunting?
  9. What a great deer. Gonna be very difficult one for him to beat!
  10. Landshark's the man to put you on a personal best in Quinte!
  11. My brother Ken scratched down two woodcock and a fall turkey assisted by Slash the wonder dog. I managed to shoot a tree, a bush, and air. A nice morning hunt never the less..
  12. Dropped two with one shot this morning now I can get more serious about deer with bow and then muzzle loader.
  13. Hunted a beaver pond this morning and scratched down a mallard and three woodies. Yesterday we got two pheasants at French Creek and my brother had a spike horn at about 20 yards bow hunting last night. We also saw a couple flocks of turkeys we're making a plan for. Love this time of year!
  14. Hunted Perch River this morning and got two black ducks and a blue wing and green wing teal.
  15. After a great day yesterday but we actually had a better shoot today. Ended up one shy of the limit. 55 geese for 7 hunters. I could only hunt two days since I just returned from a trip to Alaska but we managed to get 91 in two days and the guys I hunted with totaled over three hundred for the early season.
  16. As the early goose season draws to an end we had a good morning and ended up with a pile of 36. Will hit them one last time in the morning.
  17. I fished yesterday and lost one at the boat but actually got shut out on walleyes and only a few small bass. I saw many glowing walleyes shallow early with my headlight in 1-8 fow but couldn't get them to hit My boat will be in use till end of late duck season in Jan. Perhaps I'll do a little fishing this fall.
  18. I really can't tell you how long the bite continues on the river as once early goose season begins I switch modes to hunting and salmon until I head up to Quinte in Nov. for trophy eyes. I'm headed to Alaska on Thursday for 20 days and hopefully some great fishing.
  19. Fished yesterday morning and picked up three all between 19 and 22". Had two more on that we dropped.
  20. Certainly not a complete waste of time but also not a high percentage game. Bass, perch, pike and walleyes are much more readily available as most muskies are caught toward Cape Vincent and usually latter in the fall.
  21. I might also add it might depend on where it was caught. A seven in some places is big indeed but for Lake Ontario or the Bay of Quinte I would hold out for something over ten. I've caught many over seven and a good number over ten and eleven and still haven't mounted one. Generally we release the big ones after a quick photo. Whatever you decide should feel right to you.
  22. Another good morning on the river with similar results. Two 25" one 19" lost another and released a keeper as I'd already limited out.
