  1. Nice fatty! Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  2. I caught one 19" walleye this morning. The walleye bite has been somewhat slow. Giving the bass a little rest as they got pounded this weekend. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  3. Although slower morning than many openers we still did ok. Lots of fishing pressure out this morning. Things got slow so we left the river with 11 smallmouths and finished our limit with 4 largemouths on a small local lake. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. http://www.eregulations.com/newyork/fishing/jefferson-county/ Jefferson County allows no catch and release bass fishing during closed season. Fisheries biologist tell me bass numbers are down. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  5. No change in law that I'm aware of for Jefferson County. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. I notice a continued problem with anglers coming to the Thousand Islands region before the bass season and taking fish off the beds. I see it every year and they are often out of state boats.. When confronted they say they are releasing the fish which is likely true but still illegal. I try to educate them on the fact that gobies are gobbling up eggs as a result. Wise there were more of a DEC presence protecting these fish. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. For me walleye bite has been poor. I've heard of a few being taken in 35-40 fow but certainly not a hot bite. Sackets and Black River have also been poor. Ogdensburg and Bsy Of Quinte have both been better areas this spring. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  8. Been back two more times and caught about 25 each time on fly rod poppers. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  9. Actually I did catch a bunch of bass as well. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  10. After tagging out early I was trying to get my son or wife a bird this weekend. I located some birds and new their roost area. Hunted two morning with my son and one with my wife but they didn't cooperate. First morning we were set up about 300 yards from the roost and they went the other direction into a pasture. Second morning we bumped one off the roost but still had birds around us on the roost but again they moved on to the pasture. Today we set up between the pasture and the roost and they went toward where we hunted the first day. We were either unlucky or dealing with a well educated bird. Generally I can kill a bird in three days as you have them well patterned. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  11. Nice to see a healthy crop of smaller fish. Seems I seldom catch shorts that I have to release on the river. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  12. Fished an Indian River Lake this afternoon and had a blast catching big gills and pumpkinseeds on my flyrod. Some on a popper but most on a parachute dry dragged across the surface. Good fun and good eats. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I couldn't agree with you more. Some things are best not divulged. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. They are very good. Nice white flaky flesh. I'd say on par with walleye. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. With turkey tags filled and some walleyes, Browns and panfish in the freezer we made our annual trip to my brothers in Cape Cod. Although there seemed to be less big sea bass than last year there was no shortage of fish. Caught some nice ones up to 20" and a couple nice tautog as well. 17. The ones I posted on last summer had very little meat on them. Checking with fisheries biologist they thought it was sandy flesh disease. I didn't eat them. A few others were also caught in the river but none in DEC netting samples. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  18. I hit a local lake and the bluegills crappies, pumpkin seeds, and rock bass are moving Into the shallows along the shorelines. Caught about 6 crappies, and 20 nice bluegills as well as many throwback rock bass and largemouths in a couple hours. A bobber and jig and popper and fly rod both worked well. I thinks the next week or so they should really turn on. You could see many fish in 6 fow or less. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  19. Also goose and duck legs which are great braised. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  20. Yep, pressure cooker would speed up the process. I use it to can venison, goose, salmon, and Browns. I sometimes forget it works great on tougher meat. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  21. Definately need to keep it fun. As previously said, in the case of kids size doesn't matter. Kids like to be involved in all aspects of the trip; driving the boat, setting the lines, watching the graph, netting the fish, listening to the radio, etc. Plenty of snacks and drinks and just keep them involved. Amazing how quickly the pick up on things, particularly when they are assigned a job. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

  23. Looks much like the ones I reported on in the river last summer. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  24. After dressing and skinning my bird I breasted it, cut off the thighs for another meal. I then sectioned up all the bones including the heart, gizzard, liver, drumsticks and neck then threw them in a pot with onion, garlic, carrot, celery, dried tomato, salt and spices. Brought it to a boil and then simmered for several hours till meat easily pulled from bones. When strained it made a wonderful stock and I picked 2.3 pounds of meat off the bones which I added to the stock. I made a delicious soup and froze another batch in a gallon zip lock. It's a shame so many people just breast their birds and all that good meat is wasted. Even the drumstick are good and tender if you simmer and remove tendons. I know it's is time consuming and easy for me to do being retired. I understand that many may not want to take the time but I get at least three more meals from a bird than if I were to simple take the breast. One or more from each half breast, one from the thighs. And at least 2 from the broth and meat used for stew or soup. I have also ground the thigh, leg, heart, and gizzard and mixed with pork to make sausage. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  25. Went back to Cardinal Ontario yesterday morning and we only caught 2 small walleyes. Mr Walleye had a banner weekend up in Quinte from photos he sent. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
