  1. f Finished the morning with our limit and threw another one back.
  2. Way to go JT. I'll be hitting the eyes this week. May also see if I can fid some browns or a salmon .
  3. I fished a small Indian River Lake and took a limit of 12-14" largemouths from my Gheenoe this morning in an hour and a half. Low tech relaxing fishing using 5" Senkos along outside weed edges. I've been watching a pair of loons raising two babies for the last couple weeks. It's incredible how fast they grow and mature. The babies are already diving and fishing for themselves and have started getting white feathers on their breast. They are now nearly half the size of their parents.
  4. I was at a local Indian river Lake yesterday visiting a friend and was surprised to see some a number of large bluegills on beds in very shallow water near his dock.I'll return soon to investigate.
  5. I have been using Nanofil line with flouro leaders on a couple 360 Penn Slammer reels the last couple years. It floats doesn't coil and doesn't seem to tangle like some of the braids. It also casts extremely well. I'm still using a couple Bass Pro medium action IM7 rods that have served me well for years.
  6. I frequently fish the river for walleyes in 30-60 fow with riggers, bottom bouncers and deep cranks and almost never catch a pike. I catch some good ones trolling up on the lake but unfortunately the pike fishing on the river has really dropped off. I believe you'd have a much better chance targeting bass and walleyes. I've probably caught a couple incidental pike and one smallish muskie in the last few years while walleye and bass fishing. I do catch some through the ice but seldom over 8 lbs.
  7. Pike or Musky? Still looks to have a dark background with snowflakes like a pike but they appear to be arranged in a barring pattern like a musky .
  8. Fished Chippewa Bay again this morning and the bite has slowed. Still should have limited out by 9:30 but I lost 3 nice smallmouth when they jumped. Not getting them on shallow beds anymore but if you work the shoal edges in 6- 12 fow you can still scratch out a nice catch.
  9. Gill T thanks for the insightful information. Very interesting. I fish the eastern end more often and wonder about the science of the wind on this end.
  10. Trapper, your right about a sore wrist and hand but I've tried riggers and lead core and they aren't as effective as you can't follow the changing bottom contour. Rod holders can't do it right either. Lots of guys do well on jigs, jigging spoons and harnesses but I need to become better and more confident doing that as I seem to catch more with the sticks and bottom bouncers. It is a killer on carpel tunnel.
  11. Thanks for the post. Not much information out of Henderson area.
  12. I generally fish mornings as there is virtually not traffic so maybe I'll see you out. Trapper how do you get by trolling sticks with 3 ounce weights? I make my own and they are probably 10 ounce and trolling into the current I still deal with drop back.
  13. Trapper glad you're back at it. I fished bass this morning and we caught another nice limit with 5 fish over 17" and 2 just short of 20".
  14. We limited out again this morning by 9:20. 5 were over 17" with largest a shade under 20". Caught them a touch deeper today as the shallower fish have been picked over this week.
  15. Hit the lake this morning but came up empty. Fished an 8 rod spread off boards and riggers in 7-45 fow and didn't mark much as far as bait or fish. Even tried for smallmouths and only got a few small ones. Not one of my more successful outings but I wanted to hit a different area. Should have fished the river!
  16. Smallmouths were actually a bonus as I was targeting walleye. Bass were caught in 15-30 fow on deep divers and hadn't spawned yet.
  17. Although I haven't fish there or heard any news I can't imagine smallies aren't available if you get inside 18' or so and troll sticks and cranks or fish tubes or drop shots.
  18. Get inside 16 FOW or so and do a little looking and you shouldn't have any problem finding quality smallmouths. I might troll stick and crank baits till I locate them and then switch to drop shot or jigs. Stony, Gallo, Fox, off shore shoals, Chamount. Many options and always a chance in bonus walleyes.
  19. JT minnows or tubes should work but try 2" Berkley Powerbait minnows on a light jig with 4 or 6 lb test. They work well for me for most panfish.
  20. Things certainly can change in a hurry. Two weeks ago the walleyes and bass were on in Chaumont but things definitely seem to have changed. I guess I will be searching some areas farther out in the lake. May try Calf or around Fox Island.
  21. Just got a check from Winchester covering the cost for a new box of shells. Doesn't make up for the missed Tom but they are investigating the misfire.
  22. I've caught them on top waters and it is a blast. I should have tried today as I had a Pop R rigged but never got around to throwing it. Hitting then on Senkos but did hit a couple on a small crank bait today. Next trip I'm taking light rod with 6 lb. test just to have fun. Those 3-4 pounders are a blast and I really don't need to keep many more.
