  1. What a great day for you and grandkids. Those are days that will never be forgotten.
  2. Nice to catch them in the shallows where they always go airborne.
  3. Caught about 20 big gills in an hour. 1" gulp and spikes on ice jig.
  4. We all have days and nights were it doesn't happen. Fortunately persistent often pays off and we know JT is that.
  5. Took my wife and a newbie out this morning for the opener and we weren't disappointed. Had a 15 fish limit of nice bass by 9:30 and that's with having starter problem with main engine and running on my kicker and electric. Nice sizes fish mostly14-19". All in shallow water 4-10 FOW. f fortunately the starter problem was easily resolved after we hit shore. Nice morning on the river.
  6. I've had decent success using 1" gulp minnows and 2" Power bait minnows on a light jig head.
  7. When I'm fishing locally I fish out of Alex Bay but I trailer my boat downriver to Lisbon and up to Henderson. I fished again this morning and we got skunked except for a couple bass.
  8. I've been using a fly rod mostly but also catch them on light spinning gear and a float.
  9. Yea but sometimes they suspend and I get them on deep divers. Everyday is different with changing wind and current. That's what keeps things interesting.
  10. JT I've been chasing stream trout, panfish and getting ready for smallmouths on Sat. I decided it was time to see if the eyes were around and I guess there are some to be had. Trolling with very heavy bottom bouncers and stick baits is my most productive method but definitely not the most fun way to fish. I tried bucktails and jigging spoons but they didn't produce for me today, I will continue to experiment and perhaps find other productive methods.
  11. Yep I got some on a bead head dropper off the popper and some on the popper but the dinks kept hitting the nymph. I need to do more experimenting to see if I can find something that the big ones take and smaller ones don't.

    Bluegills

Bluegills are suspending over and in the weed in 3-12 fow. Some will hit poppers on surface but many want something down a few feet. The problem is the big ones are mixed with many smaller ones so a lot of sorting is required to get the real big ones. You can easily see them and the big ones are definitely more selective. With patients and experimenting very large ones are attainable.
  13. I like perch best as they are a little firmer and can be used in more ways than crappie. That said if they are fried I doubt many people can tell the difference between the taste of most good white fleshed fish. I find the difference is more of a texture thing. I too take the dark meat and lateral line off walleye and other larger fish. I also like pike and it works well for grilling,
  14. Winchester sent me a UPS label to mail back unused shells, box they came in and misfired shell. Said they would send a certificate for new shells. Doesn't get me the missed tom but at least they back their product and are investigating.
  15. Not hearing of much but a few lakers up Henderson way. Oswego may be a better choice.
  16. Fished on a friends boat out of Henderson. Ran to Sangri La and trolled toward Chaumont. Marked a fair amount if bait but only caught 1 walleye, 1 pike and 1 drum. Looks like the eyes may be headed out of the shallows toward the open water shoals.
  17. Fishing can be great on those shoals in Aug or even earlier. I also catch many in the SLR.
  18. Still a few crappies hanging around weed beds and bluegills are also above the weeds and some still on the beds. Not hot and heavy but you can still get a half pail of nice panfish. Fun on fly rod and poppers.
  19. I've fished that area and over on Charity and other shoals on Canadian side. Did 14 walleye day last year with all big fish plus a 7.3 lb smallie last year.
  20. Early summer they are easy to target
  21. The smallmouths have been an issue fishing for walleyes. When I get into 17 fow or less the rods start firing with big smallies. Sometimes I had multiple fish on at a time and I had to move to deeper water to avoid catching them. Many were in the 16-20" range. I would think they would be around for the opener. Stick baits off boards and shallow set riggers. Come opening weekend I may try long lining some shallow divers with light spinning gear if I don't fish Chippewa Bay.
  22. I'll likely try Calf Island soon. Also caught a bunch of browns there last year. Thanks for the information Fleet Tracker.
