Good point. Even the best cameras aren't the same as the human eye which interprets color differently which is why when you take a pic of a stunning landscape or sunset it never seems the same or good as when you were viewing it. The human brain also "fills in" missing pixel information during perception. The analogy with a camera only goes so far and in many respects is inaccurate in terms of process.

The DEC staff were there for many years and did the measuring and Identification and they bailed out a couple years ago from the process and apparently the Sessler owners of Samsen weren't real cooperative or excited about having a weigh station there.

The color chart and the Go Pro examples possibly should not be taken as "gospel" though. First of all there is actually no such thing as "color" as "objects". Light is broken out in wavelengths and these wavelengths are what is perceived as "colors" by the human brain in our case. It is a perception and not an entity in itself. The brains of different organisms perceive, interpret, and respond to light wavelengths in different ways. A lot of the stuff you see in the way of charts is based on HUMAN perception by the human eye and interpreted by the human brain. Human eyes and brains sample only a limited amount of the total spectrum of light (e.g. we do not directly see UV rays and others). Other organisms with different eye structure, brains, and perceptual systems see and interpret differently than the human eye and may respond differently as well to what they perceive in the light spectrum. Why I am saying this is that a lot of assumptions are often made in terms of other organisms or animals about what they "see" and what they actually respond to so we have to take the common charts with a grain of salt as most are based on what WE see. The Go Pro video is a good example of this. If a deer looked at it it would appear all shades of grey so how about a fish viewing it as they are thought to see UV rays? I'm not trying to be a PIA or smart azz but it is food for thought and a caution that we may be oversimplifying things by making assumptions.

This was the weirdest 6 lb laker and had lamprey attached as did all the other fish including salmon. His back was totally black and note the extreme white near the gills and notice the white edges on the fins. Before anyone says anything about the way he was held he was wriggling all over as I was trying to release him when the shots were taken and my hand slid upward

Must have been it Mike The guy who ran things at the weigh station was the person who just came to my house and I asked him about the fish ID controversy. He said that it was first identified as brown initially and then they questioned it and had some knowlegeable folks look at it and examine it in light of comparison pics of the characteristics and also looked at the roof of the mouth (one row vomarine teeth) and determined it was a landlock so they had a close look at the fish.

I want you to know these folks are trying to do the right thing.... I just received a call from the derby folks indicating that there was an error and that I am moved to second place in the Seniors division and the guy is actually delivering to my home in one hour the extra $50 and exchanging plaques with me to correct the mistake. I think this speaks volumes for their sincerity and willingness to do the right thing after they caught the mistake.

They have some problems to iron out but in all fairness I think they are trying to keep it going and struggling with staffing. I was on my way to Samsen to weigh my fish the first day that I caught at 8 AM but on the way there was told by a friend that they weren't weighing fish there. Since I was fishing near Dresden I said screw running all the way to Geneva to weigh the fish so I boxed it and never weighed it until 5:30 PM and it lost nearly a pound by then.....kinda the way things go sometimes

I'm not sure what the situation was but I spoke with staff the guy running the weigh station and he said they were having a hard time finding any volunteers to man the weigh stations and that is why Samsen didn't have a weigh station. I noticed when I weighed my fish that there didn't seem to be any DEC people present that used to identify the fish as well as weigh and measure them.....and that may be the source of the problem or others as well.

Thanks John only got to fish a day and a half but was a lot of fun with my son and brother on board who doesn't fish (golfer) and he knows every joke known to man. Fishstix (Stan) kicked my butt with first and second in that division Looks like your boat had a money fish as well so congrats.
