  1. What have you guys found to be the best swivel for spoons? Or do you tie right to the spoon? Thanks.
  2. I would interested in the big rod holders. Also if they aren't taken.
  3. Just wondering if anybody has a suggestion or have done things to clean up old spoons. I have a bunch that have some rust on the back of them and was wondering a good way to clean them up and make them shinny again. Thanks.
  4. Looking to buy some Big Jon single rod holders, like the topic says. Thanks. Just PM me.
  5. If I could get some advice on a good brand/type of net to use, the one I have is ok for medium size fish but I dont think the opening is wide enough for the bigger fish. When its just the wife and I, she has a hard time netting the bigger fish and switching rods to her and me netting and stuff like that can become a chinese fire drill, its just a big pain. We have lost some nice fish this year with netting issues and I think one reason is becasue the opening to the net I have is to small for the bigger fish. So i'm looking for a good net to get if anyone can give me some advice I'd appriecate it. Thanks.
  6. Thank you all for the good information guys, not being the only one with this problem makes me feel a little better. I will try some light leaders and see what happens. Thanks again.
  7. This is only my 2nd year owning my own boat and fishing the Big O and I really need help with the spoon action. What kind of leader is most typically used for running spoons? On riggers and Dipsey? I'm still having issues with trying to take fish with Spoons, not matter what I do I can not get a spoon to fire off. I've spooled a reel with light line 12# test to see if the action would make a difference, and nothing, I've ran the same brand of spoons together, nothing. I usually run 30# test when fishing for salmon and was wondering what lb leader is good to try and get the most action out of the spoon with it. I basically run all F/F and Meat rigs now, I have no issues with catching fish with these. I would really like to get the spoon working in my aresnel in taking salmon and steelies, but I'm really up to my last nerve about this. Any suggestions would be most appriecated, Im getting very fustrated with the whole thing as I'm about to sell off all the spoons I've bought over the last 2 years as none of them have taken fish I wonder if they even catch fish and all this talk about catching fish with spoons on these boards is just some big hoax. Though I know its not as I grew up on Lake Michigan and we use to kill the steel head with spoons when I was a boy with my dad, but I can not catch a fish with a spoon on the Lake O to save my life. Please help, Thanks.
  8. I broke down and spent the bucks for the new x4 probe last weekend I'm using the old 840 fishhawk also and was tired with the old black probe not working right I never did get to work past 60ft. All I can say is that the new probe was a god send, it worked for me right out of the box, I hope you find out whats wrong because its really nice when your 150 down and picking up your temps and speeds.
  9. I just got a HDS 5 with the insight maps, I dont have any issues with it on the lake. I pick up my rigger balls usually up to about 140 ft depending on weather blow back things like that, and sometimes I pick up my closer dipsey I run on 1.5 setting with it, also depending on weather. I seem to pick up fish easy when I was fishing in 350 ft (you will never get all the fish sitting on the bottom no matter what electronics your using at any depths).
  10. I have the same problem with my old mag 10's, how can I up grade wire size when there is only one size for connections?
  11. I don't have my fish hawk installed yet, I haven't had the time to get that on yet so I don't know what my down speeds are, but I like to keep my GPS speed between 2.2 to 3.3 and try and find the speeds that the fish are hitting at. Should I not run a F/F combo setup with spoons also? I usually have 3 people fishing with me so I start the day with 3 F/F and 3 Spoon setup then end up up with 5 F/F and 1 spoon by end of the day. I always start out with hope with the spoons that today will be the day, then end up holding out thinking something got to hit it so I always leave one out. I'll try pulling them in tighter to the ball or stacker, How should the spoon look when running it? Just wobbling side to side right? Thanks for the responses so far.
  12. This is my 2nd year fishing lake ontario and I have a question/concern about how I run spoons. I can not get my Spoons to fire off at all, 99.9 % of the fish I have caught came off F/F Combo's, I dont understand why. I must be doing something wrong. Like this past Sunday 7/17, I had a great day landed 15 or so fish, all off F/F combo not a one on a spoon. I gave up and just ran all F/F combo's at the end of the day. I run them at the ball, and I run them on stackers. I've tried all types and colors that are suggested here on the boards and at the local fishing tackle shops I visit up on the lake. I run them usually 20 to 50 feet back depending deepths and positon on the rigger. Can anybody give me some suggestions, tips, or something I'm doing wrong? Thanks.
  13. I launched out of I-bay being I had my father-in-law with me and he's not the most nimble of guys these days and didnt really feel like making him get his feet wet if sandy creek docks were alittle underwater. That was a rough one out there on sunday, what channels are used out of I-bay/sandy creek I couldnt get any radio chatter at all. Also, is sandy creek launch area still underwater as I would like to try that out this weekend maybe?
  14. Thanks guys, I'll be heading up either way. If the lake isnt nice well i guess we go back home. I'll ask which one the guys want to go to if they feel like getting wet or a longer boat ride.
  15. This is my 2nd year fishing Lake Ontario, and last year I had my boat out of Owesgo the whole year, but this year I will have it closer toward Rochester and I was wondering where a good place to launch out of is. I see there is a launch at the north end of Irondequoit bay and was wondering if that was a good/best place. I have a 24fter so I need some room to play with. Also, I will be coming up Sunday if anybody could kinda of direct me on which way to go as I get out onto the lake for some fish as this will be the first time fishing out of Rochester. Thanks in advance.
  16. I'm new to the owning my own boat and fishing the big lakes now and i'm just getting things set up and I was wondering if color of wire (camo or bright) made that big of difference. I just bought a couple of spools of bright and was wondering if i should spool a couple of reels with camo also or just save the money if it doesnt really matter or effect anything. Just curious if there is one prefence over the other. Thanks in advance.
