  1. Depends on a lot of things. How much wind your boat catches etc. Would say on average it is pretty good but lot of factors and there are gain settings to play with. Trolling bags help control better too
  2. Navionics is good, but the 1ft contours are really just interpolation in a lot of areas so the true details are not there. It is probably the best off the shelf product though. To get perfect maps you will need to generate your own with a Vexilar Sonar Phone type app. Its actually quite amazing how much difference there is in some areas.
  3. I've had mine stop reading and cleaning the contacts got it going again.
  4. About that time main duck island should have some fish but its a 20mile run on the water from Kingston. Wellington area is producing salmon right now which is about an hour drive.
  5. Below about 25-26" is usually kept within the limits, above released.

For trolling deep divers, try spider wire fluoro braid. It is a sinking line so you get a few extra feet out of it compared regular superline braids. Taildancer with 180-200ft out can get down about 30ft @ over 2MPH depending on current.
  7. When you're mounting it, make sure you consider the height. Do all the filleting on the boat with a Magna board like this and its a bit low and ends up being tough on the back if you have to fillet more than 1 fish.
  8. Think the best thing you could do is put some liquid into the tank until it is full and then pump it all back out again. Check for leaks etc at this time. The center console tanks are usually a huge pain to get at, the console I imagine has to come off which usually means all electrical has to be disconnected.
  9. Also just put in a Lowrance system. Haven't tried it on the water yet but install was fairly simple but again you need HDS unit and the cable steer version is quite expensive compared to hydraulic. As far as I can tell it is the cheapest AP on the market though and comes with a Point 1 GPS as well as NMEA network gear so the actually AP portion of it ends up being only about $600-700 for the NAC-1 computer and hydraulic pump.
  10. way more than that for sure. I believe 17 no problem. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Should run fine up to at least 5-6mph. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. Bought 2 used Mag 10A a couple years ago from the forum. They were both pretty slow. After several uses one basically completely died the other is one its way out. Went back to manuals. Cannot get motors for these either, that is the issue. Apparently you can get some wiper motors to replace them but haven't bothered.
  13. What type of structure areas are you finding crappie this time of year in the river? Would like to try for them with the kids sometime. Fishing out of Kingston. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. Its mostly about the ergonomics...the low profile is easier to cast all day because it fits better in your hand. The line capacities are lower but you really don't need a full spool of line for casting. This is why there are really no low profile trolling reels.
  15. I fish out of Kingston, ON all year, usually boat is in the water April and comes out Dec/Jan. Fish for whatever is biting, but mainly pike and walleye. My kids are starting to get old enough to come out fishing but trolling is not the best for little ones...they get bored too easy! (or maybe we just don't catch enough) Was wondering what kind of seasonal pattern and structures to target if you wanted to get them into some panfish action? Not looking for hotspots from anyone, just what to be looking for at a given time of year and what depths and setups can be productive. Was thinking bobber fishing for kids would be the way to go but I have never targeted any panfish before so totally new to me. Any advice here or by PM would be appreciated.
  16. I'm pretty sure it doesn't work still though. Several guys on hull truth with touch have it installed and not working. Not personal experience just saying what I have read in the last two days. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. Just an FYI the release of the AP is currently not functional with the Touch graphs. The info I have read is that there is a software issue and currently the keypad versions will operate the AP only. Not sure what the timeline is but the Touch units are for sure not working right now with the AP units.
  18. Thanks for the info on the lead length and ball technique. Will give that a whirl.
  19. If you have hydraulic steering and Lowrance finders the new lowrance is a cheap alternative. It is not widely available yet but should be fully released soon.
  20. Seems that one of the keys to triggering lakers to bite is using the rigger ball bouncing on bottom. How do you do this effectively without also dragging your setup through bottom and fouling, especially with the mossy bottoms and mussels we have all over the lake? We normally hook the rigger release to the back of the weight and I when you get tension on it the release is above the weight by a foot or two but with the lead say 20-50ft back, usually the weight of the cowbells or spoons results in dragging on bottom...obviously missing something in how to setup properly. Any tips?
