  1. Good old "Rubber Lips". That thing is a P.I.G. hog!
  2. The transom was replaced this past winter and apparently, aside from not replacing the bellows, when they wired everything back up they wired the auto bilge pump to the incorrect side of the battery shutoff. So the bilge pump never even turned on. My fault for not doing more thorough testing. It doesn't look like any water got into the engine or fuel tank at least and all of the electronics seem OK. I'll be back up and going in a couple of weeks hopefully. Whom do you use for your outdrive work?
  3. Hey Hans, Nice fishing. You didn't happen to glance over towards my boat when you got back by any chance? The bellows gave way on Sunday sometime or another and she almost went completely down. Fortunately someone noticed and called the marina. I'm just trying to figure out when the problem started and how fast she took on the water. Everything was dry when I left her on Saturday afternoon. I don't know what would cause that problem when she was just sitting in the slip. Jack
  4. That's good to know, thanks for the info. I've been wanting to start doing a little more Walleye fishing this year.
  5. Bad idea. Tried to head west out of I Bay Thursday afternoon. There was a 3 plus foot chop, a strong west wind and nothing but milkshake as far as the eye could see. We didn't think it was worth it to fight the wind and waves west past the river so we went back into the bay and set up some sticks for Walleye and Pike. Gold and black Challenger and a fire tiger Yozuri. Picked up a double header just south of the bridge and landed a 4 lb Brown. The other got off but felt like a decent fish. Trolled through a few more times, lots of marks but no takers. To the dock for a cold beer. Hopefully things will clear up a little by the weekend.
  6. Way to go on the solo program and thanks for the report. It's always fun fighting, driving and netting all at once, I will be out there tomorrow evening.
  7. We were wondering where everyone was today. We only saw two other boats all day. It must have been all that debris.
  8. We had a decent brown bite east of Shipbuilders today in 10-20 fow. No steelies or salmon though in the shallow water for us. The best action was out towards Webster Park and Four Mile Creek. Good luck.
  9. Fished east of I-Bay between Shipbuilders and Hedges first thing. Solid brown bite between 10 and 20 fow. Temp was holding around 45 degrees. We went 18 for 25 with the biggest going about 8lbs. Froggy pattern Challenger did most of the damage but the silver and black Rattlin Rogue had good action also. We had a couple of fun passes where we couldn't keep more than 3 of 6 rods in the water at a time. We had scattered luck on the riggers. We moved out a little deeper later into the stained water and picked up a couple of small Kings. Temp was down around 41 degrees toward the 100fow mark. Saw a bunch of Lakers out around 60-70fow. A few took a run at the riggers but none were that committed. It was nice to see the weather hold out like it did after rain had been the forecast all week.
  10. Finally got the new boat out on her first trip. Fished east of I-Bay Friday morning on a basic inside run. Ended up 7 for 9 on browns and steelies. Nothing of impressive size. I had the privilege of dropping the first fish on the new boat and it definitely felt and looked like the biggest we had on for the morning. Orange was the hot color whether it was a stick or a spoon. The silver and black had some luck too. Did not see much of anything as far as colored water went. Headed west for the afternoon run and moved out a little deeper. Immediately did a 10lb king on a doctored green and yellow NK and then a handful of browns and steelies again. 6 for 8 on the afternoon. Came in when the lightning started. Coming in on a 24 ft Thompson hard top over a wide open 18 ft Blue Fin in the wind and rain kept us smiling in spite of the weather. Saturday we went West and the fishing was slow for us. 2 for 4 with a steelie and a king. Not much size to either. Continued to enjoy the bigger boat though as the chop came and went all morning. The best catch of the weekend was a rod and reel after they were dropped in the lake on a rigger with a fish on the line. Fish didn't release and I jumped over and brought the rigger up and the line was still there. I hand over handed the rod and reel back onto the boat and landed the fish. Ya gotta love a tight release and a small fish sometimes.
  11. I would be interested in some dipseys and spoons. I also live in Walworth. What is your address and when is a good time to come look? Jack
  12. I Bay can be pretty good this time of year. I upgraded to a bigger boat this year but I was running a 17' 6" Blue Fin in past years and if the lake was too rough in the spring we would just fish the bay. There is some good action in the southeast corner for browns. Watch the points, they come up quick. We have also done steelies in the deeper water. Don't go too far south, it gets pretty shallow back there. Watch your graph and you will find a shelf that cuts across the entire bay east/west. Stay just north of that. Anything south of that is usually 3 feet or less. There are docks in at the county launch on the north end. Make sure you drive in to the launch from the west as the bridge is out now.Good luck.
  13. If you prefer to just ship that is fine too.
  14. Yes, I still do. Where are you in Sodus? I am not far from there. You can reach me at 585-370-8659 and set up a time to meet. Jack
  15. Is that $10.00 for the whole lot or a piece? If it is the whole lot I'll take em. Jack
  16. A definite thanks to all for the input. I'll be out Wed, Sat and Sun so I'll put it ot use and make some adjustments.
  17. Nice King. I am considering docking my boat at at Hughes next year instead of I-Bay. How quick does the depth drop off over there?
  18. Out pre-dawn Saturday and didn't move a rod until 9 or so. Running a variety of spoons and a 6" Ito behind a green SD. Eventually the fly began to get some action 120 down over about 335fow. Ended up 1 for 4, boating a 4 lb skipper and losing a screamer after about 15 minutes. Had to run back in around 10:30 as the fuel tank was running pretty low. I knew I forgot to do something on Friday. The spoons never even had a release. Ran everything from carbon 14, nuclear purple, monkey puke, 42nd spoon and a moonshine fire tiger that had done a little damage during the week as well as a few others. That one fly did everythhing. Sunday was a different story. Best of all I had gas. Started out at 150fow and worked out. Still had good temp at around 120fow down. Had a hammer fly and the same green 6" Ito on the riggers at 75 and 120 and two dipseys out 250' with a nuclear green Stinger and a mag NK. Both dipseys on 1. Not much happening besides one drop so changed a dipsy to 2.5 setting and put on a mag money NK over 300fow.That spoon had to be in 63 deg of water but it lit up almost imediately. Missed a couple of fish and picked up a steelie then Gina got into a 25lber. While the 25lber was being fought, I dropped one fish on the Stinger and landed one on the hammer fly. Picked up another skipper later to go 4 for 7 including one dropped fish that felt pretty good. Amazing how the flies got the only action on Sat and only 2 hits on Sun. The NK mag money took 4 of the seven hits today, one of my personal favorites. It's not always hot, but somedays it saves the day.
  19. I remember the days of combat trolling. We were in a 14' Grunman with a 9.9 Johnson called "Lake Stalker". It was difficult to win a battle out there on that boat. We used to fish 3-5 footers on that boat if that's what it took. Ah the ESLO days. IMO Val LaBounty.
  20. I'm pretty sure you passed by us on your way in. I guess I should have stayed deeper. We started around 530fow and headed directlty back in to 400fow and then shallower. The temps inside of 425fow were 62deg and up. Crazy warm out there right now. I also just bought a subtroll this year and I wonder how I got along without one before. We managed one 6lb king on a spoon and two misses.
  21. We fished about straight out starting at over 400fow and working in. Briefly found some good temp and then lost it. Saw sporadic marks here and there. Missed a couple knock offs and picked up one small king, about 6lbs, on a moonshine 100 ft down. The temp was still 62 deg there. Still better than mowing the lawn.
