  1. I was at a sportsman show two years ago and they were selling them at one of the booths. I bought everyone the guy had. I ended up with about 36 of them. All different sizes and colors. The guy who introduced me to trout and salmon fishing eight years on Lake O had a small orange one. We used that spoon in the spring for browns and Coho's. That spoon out fished every other spoon and stickbait that we had on our lines that day. My friend ended up losing it a couple years later on a snag.
  2. I just saw a photo of a guy holding the first place recreational open trophy. His charter web page says he has a 36 foot boat and thirty years experience. There is no way new guys are going to have a shot against folks like this in the open division. No wonder you don't get many teams in the open division. Is there anyone from the Proam committee that would like to comment. I am curious of your thoughts on this subject.

    Ibay Perch

Don't you love it when you mention to someone about one of your hot spots and the next day or after, they are out there with one of their buddies but never invite you. It's all a big secret. That happened to me. I laughed because they got skunked and were all frustrated. Now I show them the pictures. When they ask where I caught them, I say," in the mouth or in the lake".
  4. You brought back memories of the 70s. Freezing in Italy Valley with my dad and uncles. It seemed like we had a lot more snow back then on opening days. We didn't have all the toys like they do now. I still have a pair of my uncles black and red checked wool pants. They must weigh 15 pounds. We didn't know what Gortex or Thinsulate was back then. I remember when you needed four people to put in for a doe tag and sometimes they got rejected. Now you can end up with a half dozen deer with all the tags. Times sure have changed.
  5. We need to get out there today and vote. .
  6. Spend some time checking out the Bigfoot Research Organization site and look at the different sighting locations for each state and county within. It's really interesting how many hunters have spotted weird things. Or better yet, do it a couple of days before deer season. You know, when you go walking in the woods to your stand and it's pitch black and you're all by yourself. Or at least you think you are till you feel like you are being watched. Who knows, a pack of coyotes, a cougar, even though DEC says they are not in New York or sasquatch.
  7. I'm really sorry if I offended anyone. I was just letting the hunters and gun owners out there know what is going on with our governors Phase II along with BSmaster post. A lot of folks are unaware of Phase II if Cuomo gets reelected and seeing that there are many gun owners who are also fishermen/fisherwoman, I thought it would be nice to share my opinion. I am not good with words and my vocabulary isn't the best but I talk from the heart. I have never been arrested, worked two jobs, always paid my taxes, never been in trouble with the law but when I want to take my kid squirrel hunting or target shooting with one of our 22's I have to make sure I don't have more that seven bullets in the tube or I will be arrested thanks to our governors Safe Gun Act. I have a problem with that .This thing about micro stamping bullets and all the other laws he backed doored in. I don't think the criminals who have stolen illegal guns in their possession are going to abide by Cuomo's Safe Act and turn their guns in. The best way to disarm a nation is to disarm it's citizens.
  8. We need to get everyone to vote for Astorino. Do what you can including taking your neighbors or any other eligible voters to the polls. If every hunter in this state would vote and bring other folks with them to the polls, we can get Cuomo out of there.

    Lake Alice

That ramp scares me. I would make sure no one is in my vehicle when launching. That ramp goes down to very deep water. It is not a gradual ramp.
  10. What are the waves like? Report said one foot or less
  11. I have 2 rods and reels with wire that I use for the dipsy's and they have twilly tips. I have had to remove some of the wire on one of the reels because of kinks. Is there any way that I can connect a new 1000 foot spool of wire to what is left on the one reel or should I just scrap the old stuff. There is probably 600 feet left on the one reel. The other reel is still pretty full. I didn't know if you could splice wire like you can with copper.
  12. I would love it if some of the experienced guys would share on this topic. What winds do in the spring and in the summer. What happens when you have different winds and how and where it moves water or changes the thermo line. If the wind has been blowing in this direction where would be a good place to go. Maybe some of you charter captains who have been out here a long time could chime in. It would save us newer guys a lot of frustration. And Ray, be serious if you chime in.
  13. Thanks guys. I was going to get rid of them but after talking with you, I'm going them a try next spring for the browns.
  14. I bought about thirty of the Andy Reeker spoons four years ago. All sizes and all colors. I have never used one and they sit in a box in my garage. I'm always trying the stingers, dream weavers, NK's and those kinds of spoons. Maybe I should give them a try. I have blue, green, yellow and orange colors mixed with silver. How are these Reekers?
  15. He had sucker chubs and earlier in the season had fatheads. He is selling some ammo and used guns also.
  16. New bait & tackle/ gun shop just opened up in Churchville, Monroe County. Address is 22 East Buffalo Street next to the dam at Black Creek.
  17. New bait and tackle/ gun store opened up in Churchville, Monroe County. Location is 22 East Buffalo Street next to the dam at Black Creek.
  18. 1. When you use large paddles, where do you put the bead chain? At the end of the leader where it connects to the paddle or at the other end of the paddle where it connects to your meat rig leader? 2. Do you use bead chains on Spin Doctors and Pro Trolls or just the big paddles?
  19. Something doesn't look right. The guys left hand is not touching the fish. His thumb is pointed towards the camera and only his index finger is touching the fish. His other three fingers on his left hand are pointed down and not making contact with the fish. The fish appears to be laying on his wrist. The temperature that date was 73 degrees in that area. This guy is very big and we all know that heavier people have more insulation body composition. He is wearing baggy camo outer pants along with a long sleeve type sweat shirt/jacket over a grey shirt. A heavy guy that big, dressed that warm on a 73 degree day holding a fish that big with his right hand and left wrist??????
  20. You are right on with that one. I go to Fast Track and do the same thing. I run my lawnmower, rototiller and snow blower on their ethanol free high test. It's a pain every once in a while bringing all those gas cans and filling them but it is better than having engine problems.
  21. It's happening. Read some of the post from this year and last year.
