  1. I bought mine off of Gunbroker. If you look around you should be able to find the T3 for much less than that.
  2. Mark, Those should do very well in Owasco and Cayuga! You are a very patient soul. Don't blame you on the 15# leader!
  3. I've got a set and they work great. They aren't fancy by any means but they work very well. If you are interested in having them be removable; I mounted cannon deck plates to my gunwales and just drilled the bases of the rod trees to match the holes of the cannon plates, that way when I don't want them on the boat they are easy to take off.
  4. I have the synthetic. Its very light and the action is ultra smooth. I am hoping to take it to Mississippi in 2 weeks to test it out on some hogs. The only negative I have found so far is that the cartridge space in the clip is shorter that the actual throat space in the barrel, meaning that I lengthened out some hand loads that would fit in the barrel fine but the wouldn't fit in the clip. But to be fair it isn't a high priced rifle.
  5. If you ever read anything by David Petzal he says that the 7-08 is the best deer round on the market. It is very versatile with infinite options. I have one in a Tikka T3 and like it very much. I have very good luck with the 120 gr. Barnes TTSX (Thanks DVD) as well as 140 gr Nosler Partition with 42 gr of 4064.
  6. The pictures they have at the park registration desk of ice fisherman in the marina are insane. I really couldn't believe how many people were packed in there.
  7. I did some hinge cutting and trimming yesterday as well. Come on spring.
  8. Watching the dog work and having 4 kids under 8 in the blind were the highlights for me.
  9. I ran into an older gentleman at the launch in Barcelona a couple years ago that told me he won it in 1983 with a 43# king. That's a beast!
  10. Awesome. My lab has given me that face on the tailgate a few times as well. Its amazing what they will endure. Nice job.
  11. We got a banded female Canadian goose on Sunday. Report came back to say it was banded in 2003 and was born in 2002 or earlier. She put on some miles!
  12. Anyone have any experience with the Browning X-bolt Hunter? They make a 22-250 with a 1:9 twist barrel. Looking for feedback.
  13. For a value priced rod I have had very good luck with the Shimano TDR.
  14. My twin 5 year olds love to clean fish. Daniel likes to hand them over so they can be fileted and his sister Kyleigh just has to touch the eyes of every fish! They also love to help in the garden or whatever other chores need to be done. They are getting the idea that the sooner the work gets done, the sooner we all get to play. Last week I was running the snowb lower and they were each on a shovel working on the steps and the garage doors. Love it!
  15. Thanks Gill, My main issue as far as the fleas are concerned is actually on the Finger Lakes, especially Cayuga. At times, they can be much worse than anything I have ever seen on Lake O out of Fairhaven.
  16. I have a fish hawk so there will be no issue there. The stealth factor is what interests me the most. Like most everyone, I'd much rather catch fish off the riggers than longlines if given the choice. Especially on the finger lakes. For anyone that has run braid which brand did you have good luck with? Which brand was not as good?
  17. There are some schools of thought that say braid outfishes cable over 50% of the time, due to the reduction in vibration and noise in the water.
  18. The cables on my riggers are old and I am thinking of replacing them this off season. I am looking for suggestions in terms of what braided lines you have had good luck or bad luck with. I fish the finger lakes a lot so fleas are definitely a concern too. Or just stay with wire?
