For lake Ontario, boat depth and weight is very important, my family had boats all my life and then when my wife and I got married we bought our own boat. We are now on are third which is a 22' sea ray that weighs 5,900 lbs and has very good depth. One reason for this choice of boat, being able to fish Ontario and we vacation at BB and like Sandy pond area, but it can get rough in a hurry. This boat with its depth and weight cuts through waves and you don't feel like your getting pounded. My wife got seasick on lake O in the smaller boats we've owned, but so fare with this one she's hasn't. I would suggest buying used, if you take a good look around and take your time, there are many good deals to be had with the ecomony the way it is, boats depreciate very fast the first 5 years. If you have mechanical ability check it out good, if not, it might be worth taking one with you. One reason for not going much bigger is being able to trailer it, my max tow capacity is 8,900, which when it loaded with gas,fishing stuff or fun stuff it's pushing max weight. Good luck, nothing like fishing and boating on the big O with her sunsets.

Had the same issue with my 1997 Sea Ray, put a new steering cable on it steers great now. Mine was really bad last season when cold and out for spring browns. Piece of cake to change, took about 2 hrs, I think the cable cost was around 120$ with tax.

The clippers look good especially the price, thanks for the tip. Does anyone use a shock absorber on the planer line. Happened to see them while looking for prices on releases.

Sounds like I will start with a dozen and go from there, looking at some prices, cost will be somewhere around 90$ to 100$ for that many........ going to have to get part time job to pay for this obsession or maybe just won't tell the wife, what she doesn't know won't tic here off... lol...... thanks for the info.

Bought Otter boats for sping browns, want to know what releases to buy and how to use them. If you have your spread out say 3 or 4 lines pre side and you catch one on outside line, how do you redeploy it. Do you leghthen the lines you have out and send another release out, making the redeployed one the inside line or do you bring the boat in and redeploy everything. My plan is to run three sticks on boards and two spoons on riggers.

Nice .... how long do they stay charged for.... only been on the big lake O for two years so first I've heard of this, but I like the idea.

ya what ^ said, only thing I would add, is the flys during summer that come out to feed on those dead calm days.....ha ha .... they sure can bite ..... drove me off the lake once last summer, couldn't take it anymore. If you guys have any tips on keeping them away I would like to hear it.

We ran 4 dipsys last season, mags on inside on .5 or 1 and #1 dipsy on 3 or 3.5 on out side, all on 30lb wire. You can get almost 2 to 1 on mags and 3 to 1 on #1 dipsy on the outside. This gives good seperation, did have one tangle but it was in rough water when it was tough to control the turn.

Well you may not catch any, but we all know your pole would be in the water......

Hey sk8man, I see you fish out of Sodus, nothing like going to Captain Jacks and having a prime rib sandwich after a good day of fishin and can't forget the or ha ha ha. Maybe see your whaler out there this summer.

We stacked last year, paddles off the torpedoes and spoons above with no problems. Usually paddle back 10 to 20 feet and spoons above 15 to 20 feet and back anywhere from 40 to 70 feet. Setup worked well for us. If you keep releases loaded going down minimizing blow back and have apposing angles with you poles, the paddle will clear when hit.
