  1. Updates can be done, but you must be teck savy, you need to remove the card and then do the on line update useing a card reader then insert the card into the reader and complete the update useing the info from the card reader to your card out of the unit, not excactly shure how its done, but I was told it can be done, someone from here told me how to do it I'll have to go back through my PM's to get the hole scoop, as this was a concern of mine also, since I bought a ELITE 7 also
  2. We used a simular rig for fishing walleyes in the river, we used a huge salt water fly fishing reel with automatic retreve to take up the wire line, used 2oz jigs with a twister tail, just jigged it off the botton, you could feel the jig hit bottom, then when fish hit, hand line it in, when a pile of line was on the floor just hit the trigger on the fly reel and it spools up on it's own, we use a short peice of rod, just the handle and the reel clamp and maybe 8" of rod, this way you can reach the line to do the jigging, I use a batters glove, the wire hurts after a while of jigging, and when a fish hits it can be a battle, where the batters glove is thin and you can feel everything. This system works well and it should work for lakers also, oh I put a roller line guide on the tip, like what the guys use with copper rigs. We troll real slow .5mph so the line stays vertical at all times, if it doesn't go heavier with jig. I'm going to try it this year on LakeO for lakers.
  3. Lobster, I have a 20ft Sea Ray I can get down to .5 mph with a 15hp Johnson twin cylinder 2 stroke, if you can't get it to do what you want, I have a troll plate I had on a 88hp Johnson don't know if it will fit, I no longer need it, It's one of those spring loaded ones, you don't have to remember to unlock it, it flys up with the pressure from the prop, I hated the thing because in reverse you have no controll-steering, with it being down it wouldn't allow enough water to the prop for proper controll, anyway if you choose a troll plate, I will give you the one I have, just pay the shipping and it's yours! I paid like $90.00 for it but that doesn't matter because it just lays in the garage in my way. PAP.
  4. Awsome first time out guys, nice pics.also, nice to to finally read a real fish report and see some new fish pics. Looks like the season is here, go get them guys!!
  5. So what your saying is, no need for a 4g net work, the phone will communicate with the smart troll? Im not that teck savy so this is kind of confusing to me, please feel free to help me understand this new teck stuff, I really like the what I been hearing as far it's ability to do so much, just lost in fog with the understanding of how it works.

    Bass fishing

My uncle and his buddy thinks Lake O' is the best lake they ever fished, and they live on the water, so they know what good and whats so,so for size and the amount they catch, all are released! don't dare hurt a smallie on their boat or you will be swimming back to shore, they are looking for that 7#er for a reproduction mount. They drop shot and wacky style fish a gold with sparkles and a paddle style tail rubber worm, I went along a few times, one time we were on the end of Galloo Island and found a limestone under water island, If we didn't catch 100 smallies we didn't catch one and all fish where 3# and up to a almost mounter fish, best day ever on lake O' First we fished rubber worm ran out, fished a paddle tail fish ran out, on on, till we were fishing a bright yellow bare jig head, then everything stopped, we just sat in the boat and just couldn't believe what just happened. Awsome experience!!!!!! The smallies are out there I'm living proof of that.
  7. If I'm following the info correctly you will need a smart phone, low end phone cost $200.00 then in order to use an app you will need a service of some sort, verizon which is what I have for phone service now is $79.00 a month, so I need a phone $200.00. My service is free due to my work pays my service,Does the Smart Troll communicate with the phone directly or are you using the service, are you going to be roaming, if so your bill will floor you when you get it, or am I all wrong, Just wondering?? $79.00 a year is $948.00 a year plus $200.00 for the phone=$1'148.00 the first year because of the cost of the phone,$948,00 every year after for the phone service?
  8. Thanks again guys, going to give it a go PAP

  11. What is your go to Lake Trout set up, spoons, cowbells ect. My uncle wants to catch a wall hanger to go with his 13.75# walleye and his 50 inch pike and now he wants a big laker to go with his collection, any input would be nice, PAP.
  12. WOW!!!! this couldn't have been posted any better, I was about to purchase a new fish hawk, think I will sit back and see what this new unit has to offer, better price, multi probes, sounds impressive, see what happens, hope before the season starts. Thanks Matthew!! PAP
  13. I have the Cabelas Depth master combos, I have the DM30's and 2 of the DM45's on my rigger poles, I bought the combos for about $80.00 a peice and have them going on 5 years now, but I don't use them day in and day out, there are some thing that aren't good about their reels, first the drag, every time you go out you have to set the drag, they lock up like so you have to loosen them up and reset them, then they are good for the day, the next day is the same crap, next is the button to set the reel back to (0) it should be on the other side many times setting the dipsy rods you hit that button and you look at where you are and it reads way less because you hit the counter without realizing it, so you have to reel everything back in do it over,I would not recemend these reels if you fish day in and day out, but for me who only gets out a dozen or two times a year they are good enough. My uncle called the other day and said he has a gift for me, he was doing a job (masonary) for a lady and she asked if he was interestes in fishing and he said yes, she had all kinds of poles and reels for trolling, her husband passed away and she wants to get rid of them, just take them she said, and there was diawa linecounters and poles and all kinds of lures, I didn't see them yet but he said there yours, I thought you could use them, so I don't know what kind of stuff is there, but he said half a pickup load!!
  14. Trout Man I tried to pm you and your mail box must be full, I would like to get 2 of the 12#ers, PAP.
  15. I don't understand, lost I guess this is inside the welm talk?????
  16. Just a heads up, Bass Pro is putting the ELITE7 on sale next week, I don't know what or how much off the price, but keep an eye open next week, see what happens PAP.
  17. djj717, great thred, I also have twin girls, turning 8 on the 18 of this month, I take them fishing all the time, they love the boat and catching the big ones, they also are getting itchy to hit the lake.
  18. Well a little story goes with how I got the name for my boat. We fished Canada alot when I was a kid, and my dad and I always fished together, we always caught alot of walleye up there, one day there was a little boy sitting on the dock when we got back in and was admiring our stringer of walleyes, and the little boy was Amish, so in Dutch he said to my dad what were you using for bait, dad said a yellow jig with a peice of walleye belly,(at that time it was leagle) . The next day we headed out early morning and there sat the little Amish boy crying, so we pulled over to the dock and dad asked him in dutch whats the matter, he said his dad has no money for more worms, so dad gave him half of ours and the little boy was so happy he couldn't thank dad enough, off we went, came back in with anouther stringer of walleye and we cleaned them and fillet them and dad kept some of the belly meat for the little Amish boy. Next day there he sat crying again, so dad told the little boy to ask his dad if he could go along with us, and his dad talked to my dad in dutch and he agreed to let him go with us, those to guys had a blast talking in dutch, don't ask me what they were saying I understand some but not much, dad gave him a jig and a little piece of worm and he casted out and soon had a walleye, I thought the little boy was going to squeze dad to death, he was so happy, then dad got out his pocket knife and cut a piece of walleye belly off for him and put on his jig and the little boy cought his own stringher full of walleye with one piece of walleye belly. Dad told him see you only need one worm. I never will forget that day, since then dad passed away from cancer and I inherited his boat which never had a name, so I named the boat 1WORM in his memory. THANKS DAD I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU. RIP. PAP
  19. Fish on, I fish mostly for walleye, and was fishing for them early AM. in the fall we had caught a few on the back side of Gallo ISL. and then we came around to the trench to try for salmon, so we switched over our gear for salmon and started to troll towards Associated ILS. and started at about 1.8mph and was along side of a charter, and thought well I'll just stay out of his way, move up towards Stoney ILS. and he started pulling away from us, meaning going faster so I started to speed up to stay along side buy plenty far away and soon we were at 2.5mph and thats where he stayed with his speed, and he was catching fish like mad!,but he circled around and headed back down and we kept going towards Lime stone shoals, once we were all alone thats when it seemed like we were flying, soon one rigger went off then the other we had 2 fish hooked up with 4 polls out and 2 guys it was great, we landed the 2 kings my uncles was huge as I only had a walleye net along she busted the handle right off but I grabbed the ring of the net and got her in she weighed in just under 37# first king ever and mine weighed in the 20's so we reset everything and kept going towards the Black River and soon a dipsy fired and a rigger fired off, we lost the dipsy fish but landed the rigger fish, the screen was loaded with fish, we think a school of kings left the trench and was headed for the Black River, we stayed on fish all day untill we had enough, word on the radio was things slowed down in the trench but we were on them all day and had the whole lake to ourselves best day ever on the bigO.
  20. Thanks guys for the info, that will give me an idea of where to start and then the fish should fill in the blank as far as where to end up at with the speed, I think I'm getting the hang of this, THANKS to everyone for their input, with that being said I want to apolgize to Captian Carl for redirecting this thead as he was looking for what lures where hot for other folks on here, and with some dispute about what works where the thread got out of hand, so please answer the original title (what lures were hot for brown trout last year) thanks PAP
  21. THANKS Gill-T, I think I have everything figured out. This is a big step for me and I want all my ducks in a row, I made other posts that never get answered, and there were about 200 views before someone chimed in, meanwhile I found out what I needed to know, but the others that posted removed all of the grey areas I had. THANKS to everyone that replied! PAP.
  22. Well, I see we have a different view on lures and colors, with that being said what is tha general rule for speed, like the new fishfinders all have gps's no more speed wheels, so all speeds will be gps speeds, where do you guys start at and then generally end up, being a walleye guy slow-slow=slow, I read on here somone says they were up to 3mph with the kings hitting at that speed and caught his biggest coho,to me thats flying
  23. Thanks Yankee Troller, I've been successfull with the riggers, set a 5ft&8ft with 50 to 75 feet of line back,I used alewive, soduspoint orange chickenwing in the michigan stinger spoon with success, this year I added planer board setup for the big boards which I have but never used, this year we will, see what kind of knots I can get myself into, give it a wirrel see what happens, will try the stick bait methood also. One other thing!! where did Fat Nancy move to? They seem to have the scoop on everything!
  24. I really want to do some browns this spring, also doing some research on this blood run copper, seems that is the way to go,I personally never used it and that might be some of my problems, NEW to this type fishing, anyway, can you run short leads of copper in the spring? seems to me that it doesn't take much to get down 5-8ft with no other weights, for the walleyes I ran OFF SHORE snap weights and that worked good. I have all of the Precision Trolling books and the big water edition has alot about wire and lead core and all the different dipsy with the dive curve and it's a no wonder why you guys run the copper line. One other question does the blood run copper run deeper than the (just reads #30 wire) in the Precision Trolling book. It's nice that you guys say what works best for you, I fish the Henderson Harbor area, Black River basin, Chaumont bay area, are those lures a general rule of thumb or do certain baits work for say your area, Yankee Troller is out west if I'm correct and says (this) lure works for him, would that same lure, spoon, ect. work per say Oswago or Henderson area, I know that what works one don't the next, that being said (is it a, your area lure works here and not there situation) THANKS for any input, as maybe these questions are rediculous PAP
  25. Thanks to everyone that replied back, threw all this mayham about (WHAT) transducer to get, I met anouther person on anouther board who's father is a field test person for Lowrance, and he went over all the possibilitys and was the one that told me about what ducer does what, but I still wanted to hear your opinions because they are (FACT PRUEVEN) statements, HIS explanations were incredable on what does what but there were some gray areas, that you folks, with your input removed from some of those gray areas. I thought with no replys that maybe I was one of those outcast people, as it does seems that this site is a tight nit site, maybe I was one of those on the outside? Anyway I THANK those that put their input forward. PAP
