  1. After nearly 40 hours of trolling with both the 45# and the 32#, I will continue to use the both.
  2. I put 2 winds of 30# big game in bright green so if I see it coming I know to turn something!!! It also helps to cushion the spool, and I like how the wire sits on a cushioned spool better then the hard spool.

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Captain Carl Bish/ Salmo salar ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 7/23 Time on Water:7am - 1pm Weather/Temp: breezy sunny Wind Speed/Direction: 10-20 SW Waves: <2' Surface Temp: 74 Location: 28-29N LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 8 Total Boated: 8 Species Breakdown: Kings, Steelhead Hot Lure: Moonshine Freak Eye #4 Blood Run Copper Trolling Speed: 2.0 Down Speed: 2.0 Boat Depth: Lure Depth: 40 - 60 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Had a pair of super star (going into) 4th graders and their dads on the boat today. Ran to the 28 line and began a SE troll. Had steady action for the first 3 hours then they shut down on us. The boys did just a great job on the rods with a 100% success ratio making my job eaiser and the long lull easier to take. The lure above and the white echip with Moonshine Blue Smoothie fly on the #6 Blood Run were the most active. The Moonshine Glow Broken Nose at 60', MS Brass Beef at 40' and the gator SD/Carbon 14 fly 160' dipsy also took fish.
  4. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Capt. Carl Bish/Salmo salar ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):7/22 Time on Water:6-2 Weather/Temp: perfect Wind Speed/Direction: sw 10 Waves: <2' Surface Temp:74 Location: 29 - 31N LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: +/-20 Total Boated: 7 Species Breakdown: Kings & steelheads Hot Lure: White Nuke spinner/Moonshine Carbon 14 fly Trolling Speed: non specific Down Speed: 2-3 Boat Depth: Lure Depth: 80-100 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Took the plunge down on the Roller Coaster that is Lake Ontario! Tough day of catching and some very intense fishing! Best by a long shot was the lure mentioned above on a 240' (1 1/2) dipsy, followed by a gator SD with the Carbon 14 fly on the #6 BLOOD RUN copper and 98' rigger. Carbons, melons, Tangerine tigers were getting hit, but only landed 2 fish, both hooked outside of the mouth. The quality of the fish made for happy folks!! Speed and direction were critical today as the early N bound current made that troll hard to keep speed down. The best direction was an east or south east troll. Fished the evening as well in the same area, got beat up by the big guys, landed 5 or 6, gator combo was good again down 98 as well as the Little Bruiser down 65.
  5. Tim, You may need to get some Carbon 14's online, they are low in stock at the point and will be very hard to find anywhere in a week or two!!
  6. Dude, it was one tough day, hard to get them to hit and even harder to keep them on!! That said........................... 3 for 6 is still good fishing ............... what else ya gonna do? .................go wine tasting with the misses?
  7. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Capt. Started to put out a dipsy when the Silver Carbon at 91' takes of screaming toward the bottom, hit auto up on the rigger and drop the rigger next to it to 91', it takes off, hit auto up and drop the port corner to 91 and it takes off.............nothing like starting off with a triple on matures, we dropped one and landed the other 2, one weighing in at 28.11 the other 24. We would go on to miss the next 3 kings as well before setteling into a nice pick that would displace the cooler lid. The MOONSHINE Carbons were hot all day at 90 and 110 and the dipsys were very good at 280' and 325' with the white spinner with black & green dots and the Carbon 14 fly. We were fishing phantom fish well below the temp. Short leads were the order of the day and speed and direction were more critical than location.
  8. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Capt. Carl Bish/Salmo salar ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):7/20 Time on Water:4pm - 8pm Weather/Temp: Cool light breeze Wind Speed/Direction: E 7mph Waves: <2' Surface Temp: 54 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 5 Total Boated: 3 Species Breakdown: king, laker Hot Lure: Geezer Trolling Speed: 2.8 Down Speed: 2.8 Boat Depth: 14 - 160 Lure Depth: 9 - 40 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Lake calmed down enough to fish this afternoon so we headed out to see what the E/NE wind had left us, found 72 degree water when we turned the corner, set up in 50 fow where the temp was 68, trolled north 160' and 55 degree water then trolled south again all the way to 14 fow and the temp was 55 all the way. Down temp was 41 at 41 in 41- 160 fow. Hit a few small salmon on the geezers down 20' and on a 3 color, took a laker on the same lure down 9'. Did battle with a big king on the 200 copper for 20 min only to loose it 50' behind the boat. Hope that this is the last of the poor fishing reports for this week, It was a difficult week for me and the other 2 boats that fish out of the oak this week!
  9. 10' per 50' out what it lacks in density it nearly makes up with lower resistance. The great thing is you can fit 600' on a reel that has 400' of the 45.
  10. initial review: Got the product yesterday. I spooled one reel with 400' of 45# and others with 300' and 150' of the 32#. I really like the 32# and the way it fits/seats on the reels. Gave some to 3 other captains to run and test over the weekend before I take the plunge into redoing all my copper sets.
  11. I get between 300 - 400 trips out of my wire, I does not go bad from non use, it does stretch and it will pigtail on you. Most of the time the pigtail is from you/me pulling down ward on the line while setting. Much like a pair of scissors on a ribbon, when you pull a little line out aginst your tip, like you may do when setting up the rod with a dipsy after taking it out of the rack you end up with a curl. We used to splice in a 20' length of 50# mono between the end of the wire and the dipsy and we would almost never get the pigtails. My wire gets replaced when I have trimmed it so many times that it is too short, from either pigtailing or professional crossovers. As long as you have at least 600' of wire on your reel you should be fine.

  13. From what I can see..............Rick's right. Going to be a tough 4 days!!
  14. It sucks having to fish a mostly oligotrophic lake with extremely limited (sport fishing) biodiversity..............but it's the best we've got!!!
  15. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Capt. Carl Bish/Salmo salar ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 7-18-12 Time on Water: 7 am - Noon Weather/Temp: Partly sunny warm Wind Speed/Direction: NE 5-10 mph Waves: 1-2' Surface Temp: 76 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 3 Total Boated:2 Species Breakdown:King Hot Lure: None Trolling Speed: 1.9 - 3.5 Down Speed: 1.9 - 3.5 Boat Depth: 80 - 460' Lure Depth: 90 +/- ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Short and not so sweet. Inside looked good with bait and fish and temp (50 down 100) but after 3 hours and only 1miss I had to make a move offshore, heard some guys at the 27.5 line getting fish early, ran out there, trolled for 2 more hours with one tiny salmon on a dipsy and a mature king on the 4??' copper pulling a Carbon 14, by then I managed to get a few guys sick and they wanted to go in just as I was about to start lighting up the rods!!!
  16. Left my camera home, the guys thought it would have been good to have a picture of the finger hook, but after I got it out. I wasn't about to put it back in!! Do you think Tom the FISHINMAN has product liability Insurance.......I wouldn't mind taking the next 3 day of NE wind off from work and collect a check!!!!
  17. Nothing great about today, just part of the story. You will have to figure the rest out from this statement: If anyone needs 300' of 14 strand 60# SS wire, I know where you can get some!!
  18. YES...............I think glow is a must all the time!!!
  19. Well.............................With plausible deniability I may have: Lost the 600' on a backing malfunction (Fish) Lost 100' off my 500, hit run snap (Fish) Lost 300' on a turn fishing for BT (Bottom) If anyone wraps a copper in their prop and there is a MOONSHINE on it............call your own insuance company!!...................'Cuz it ain't mine!!!
  20. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Captain Carl Bish/Salmo salar ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):7-17-12 Time on Water:6am-12pm Weather/Temp:overcast early turning mostly sunny Wind Speed/Direction: 15-25 WSW Waves: 1-3' Surface Temp: 75 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 12 Total Boated: 10 Species Breakdown: Kings, steelhead Hot Lure: White echip/Moonshine Blue shorts fly Trolling Speed: 2.6 - 3.5 Down Speed: 2.8 Boat Depth: 100 - 160 Lure Depth: 65-95 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Headed right out to 140 fow and set lines while heading into the wind and waves. Marked some fish but not many. First rod to go was a real Toad that took the echip/moonshine fly at 78', in 51 degree water. While fighting this fish another king hit the MOONSHINE Silver Carbon down 88' and we netted the fish one right after the other. The first fish was our largest female to date easily a 30# class fish. The waves made it difficult to work the spot although on the next pass the fisherman tried to reel the flasher and fish through the eyes of the rod, lifting the fish toward the transom, as I reached for the fly leader FISHINMAN TOM's Custom tied leader failed as one of the treble hooks broke off in the fishes mouth resulting in the rod snapping up and burrying one of the other trebles into my finger. (NOTE to charter clients: hooking the captain will result in temporary suspension of fishing activity for an undefined amount of time.) I cut the fly off and forced the fisherman to pull a section of 20# against the barb as I "fished" the hook back out of my finger. That was the end of the excitment for the day as we picked on steelhead and small salmon the rest of the day. The hot steelhead rig was the dipsy 190 - 220 with the black dot/greendot spinny and the Moonshine Carbon 14 fly.
  21. Nice!! It was a great week at the Oak with the cold water in so close. It has been a great July with so many big fish in the shallows. Good Job!!
