  1. Remember back in the day when the Pirate Spook ruled the lake? Well ok maybe some of you don't, but we used to run alot of black and white spoons with different tape patterns: Glow, Silver, Green glow, purple, purple glow, orange stripes and then the spook started a ladder back phase with glow, laser, purple, pink ect. WELL...........take some carbon 14's and tape them up with some of your "old" favorite patterns and watch them fly. My two favorites are oilslick/glow and purple/glow. You can't beat this blank for dawn or twilight and some days it just keeps clicking all day long. No doubt a MUST have lure. GEEZER What is not to love about this lure? Think about it black and silver/green glow. A top producer last year and is quickly gaining on the early lead the Ratchet Jaw had this year. The addition of the smaller size half moons had me really lit up this season and prompted me to make the commitment to run only MOONSHINES when running spoons and I have not been sorry. We have had very consistent catches and currently have 2 fish on the leaderboard while derby fishing only 3 days!! Back to the geezer....put a purple or green ladder over the pearl to spice things up. I will usually start with a pearl, purple and green and let the fish tell me what they want.
  2. Looks alot like the MOONSHINE Bad Toad, same color pattern, the Bad Toad or the Bad Tad which is the same pattern with the glow turned down a notch are both great spoons and available at most tackle shops along the southern shore if you need a couple. They have been top producers for several seasons now.
  3. DUDE, that is good work!!! Perhaps someone with time on their hands and just sitting around a computer in air conditioning all day could get the last all the spring and fall derby data and do a little comparison. Especially if that person has a gift for mathematics (Ray?)
  4. You don't need florocarbon for flashers, you could run bailing wire to the flashers and they will hit it -- flashers and flys are not a stealth program.
  5. Good deal, call me on the radio sometime, especially an evening when it's not crowded working together and exchanging info can enhance the experience!! Ch 16
  6. --- For Future Reference: Check the fishing report section -- you may find a recent report there if not check the site in my signature and click on fishing report link.
  7. The better the boat scale the bigger the fish..................that's Tom's Motto!!
  8. So many things can happen that will leave you bobbing in the water, that is why it is good to always have buddy or two around!!! Glad you made it back safe.

After a could do nothing wrong Saturday the long lulls were tough to take today. The silver lining was that all 4 guys landed mature fish today so quality ruled over quantity. Three lures took all the fish today Moonshine Carbon 14 purple glow stripe down 72' White Echip Moonshine atomic melon fly 200 dipsy Moonshine Bad Tad 200 copper
  10. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Capt Carl Bish/Salmo salar ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 7-7 & 8 Time on Water: 7-7 6am - 2pm, 4pm - 9pm / 7-8 5am-1pm Weather/Temp: Overcast, rain tstorm follwed by sunny Wind Speed/Direction: storm generated nort Waves: <1' Surface Temp: 73 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 20+ am & pm Total Boated: 17/12 Species Breakdown: All but atlantic Hot Lure: White echip/Moonshine atomic melon fly Trolling Speed: 2.8 Down Speed: 2.8 Boat Depth: 100 - 180' Lure Depth: 40-90 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Began the morning off to the East with a slow pick for the first hour. Ed "bite me" put me on to some fish off the flats where the 90 foot rigger with the above echip and the same white with the MS Blue smoothie on the 220 dipsy did the dammage on the kings until the cold front arrived and we pulled to get to port, we arrived at port after the storm (mostly due to fish induced delays) and decided to set up and keep fishing so we headed to 100 fow and trolled north to 180'. There was plenty of bait and fish to keep us busy, the Moonshine geezer in the smaller size was irresistible to the steelhead parked at 40 on the port out down. The same white spinner setups pulled a few additional kings and a coho. The evening trip started with a north troll from 100 to 180 fow. Same depths were effective but the yellow echip with MS Green Jeans fly was the flasher combo of choice. Toward the end of the evening we moved back into 104 fow and put a quick 6 fish in the box, including 3 mature kings in the boat on Moonshine Silver Carbons down 40, 50 and 60
  11. Ray is on the right track here. If you are serious about the survival of the fish you will not use the net, you will not touch the fish and you will not bring them into the boat. The #1 killer of caught and released fish is infection caused by the loss of the protective slime that coats the fish. Here is the best way: Bring the fish to the boat quickly as ray stated, use a boga grip to lip the fish while you unhook it and release it immediately. If it is a big guy and you want pictures lift it with the boga grip for pics.
  12. John, Great report. The best fishing of the year is yet to come, the kings will multiply in number over the next 3 weeks!!!
  13. If you are willing to go a little south there are some campgrounds in the byron, bergen, churchville area as well as one just east of Batavia (Lei-ti?). But knowing your unlimited budget, I already facebooked your wife and recommended Darien Lake. I figured you could run 3 - 5 hour trips a day and break even!!
  14. The good news G-Daddy is that after the trip, she still does not need a fishing license to clean the boat or any of the fish you keep....................
  15. I don't buy the dying alge smell.............yes that will stink, but the smell to the west of the Oak has some other origin. IMO In 1987 I studied under Dr. Makarwitz, NY Sea Grant, and did a research project on likely health effects of the bioaccumulative toxins found in Lake Ontario salmonids. Findings of Michigan Health Dept, NY DEC & Health department and all studies at that time including a longitudinal MI study showed no greater occurrence of adverse health effects in the study groups than in the general population. BUT...............the States insist on the advisories because the toxins are present in the fish. (All testing is done by grinding up the entire fish - raw; being that toxins are fat soluble, the greatest concentrations would be in the skin, blood, belly meat, oils and organs but not the muscle which is what most of us eat.) That said, I would recommend pregnant women (effect on fetal development) or breast feeding moms to NOT eat fish of any type especially Tuna from a can because Hg poisoning is bad news for babies and it won't take much! On the anecdotal side, also in 1987 a client from a state to the south of NY exclaimed: "I don't eat no fish from this lake, they will kill you!", as he flicked his ciggarette butt into the lake. He doen't fish with me any more, but 2 of his buddies and his son will be up next Saturday.............they love to eat fish!
  16. NOt from you..................from ED seeing how he uses it to bully teenagers!!!
  17. Yep, 16 - 4 thought he would be on top of the leaderboard for a couple of days, but Ed and Jim would have none of it and went right out to where we left 'em and got one 2 pounds bigger!!! ...........Guess I should have made another pass!!
  18. Nice fish, I think it is Old School Week for the Browns.
  19. Ed, You have got to admit..............Capt. Jim had a pretty good idea..........putting a Miller 44 behind a dipsy!!! Nice work, Congrats on a great fish!!!
  20. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Capt. Carl Bish/Salmo salar ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s)July 1 & 2 Time on Water: 5pm - 9pm/7:30 - 3:30 Weather/Temp: Sunny Wind Speed/Direction: light westerly Waves: none/<1' Surface Temp: 70 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 9/20+ Total Boated: 5/13 Species Breakdown: Browns/kings/laker/atlantic Hot Lure: Miller 44 (pm)/ Moonshine green shorts & Moonshine bad tad Trolling Speed: 2.8 Down Speed: 1.2 - 3.0 Boat Depth: 60 - 90 (pm)/70-300 (am) Lure Depth: 60 - 80' ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== 7-1 PM Headed west out of port and fished out to 160' and back to 60' the best screen was in the 80' area. The current was rippin a quick check of NOAA confirmed the intensity of the current and that my indicators were right. We had to crank up the speed going to the west just to get 2 mph and when we turned it was equally difficult to hold a speed around the magical 2.5. As a result we were not catching fish. I began to dig into my boxes for my slow lures and pulled out a MILLER 44 hammered. Put it down 55' on the outdown and game on for the browns. The small moonshine geezer also took a couple of fish including a laker from 63 degree water!? As it would turn out the evening was a good primmer for the next day! 7-2 Not a good morning, we ended up with a late start, snagged and broke off a 300' copper, snapped the 500' copper when a screamer slammed the yellow echip/Moonshine green jeans fly and only had 3 little fish in the box at 11:30. We had fished the inside water from the point to the glass house with only 1 little brown and 1 other hit, we then turned north and trolled to the 26N line picking up another brown in 140 fow and a small king in the deep water. The deep water is also where we snapped off the big fish, but the action was very slow and the screen was blank prompting us to pull and run back to 80 fow where we saw the bait earlier (note to self: "never leave fish to find fish" the words of Butch [shongo] Tiberio). We reset lines in 110' and headed east, downtemp looked good so we squeezed in a little closer to shore when the 60' rigger took off with the fish of a lifetime for young Collin. We reset and continued our troll to the east, then began to work a small area with decent action on each pass. We noticed that rods would fire each time we crossed the 78 fow line so we nailed our speed down and began a westward troll in a zig-zag between 70 and 80'. The riggers were active, but the dipsys were dead quiet so we re-rigged them into stealth mode and dropped them back. The stealth presentation of Moonshines Bad Tad and Bish's Bruiser was the ticket and before long we loaded the box with some heavy browns including this 15 year old's monster: Here are todays lures: Left to right: Bish's Bruiser, Little Bruiser, Bad Tad, Green Shorts
  21. You can do one side from the head to the tail, flip it over and do the other from the tail to the head!!! Great Knife, their bread knife is also great for steaking!!
