  1. My probe was acting funny too before the cable holding it to the ball broke and I put it up for the day. It kept jumping every few seconds from 75 to 46 or so and at 1 point read 31. I had to go down 90 over 130 to get it to change at all from 74. My question is: can the temps change that quick to affect the probe or was it malfunctioning? How quick does the probe react to the change? Is there really water in the 30's over 130? This is my first year with a probe and its not as easy as I thought is was going to be. Thanks for any feedback
  2. This is my first year and struggling a bit too. I am out of Mexico but also have a camp on sandy pond that I have been able to navigate for the last 2 weeks. It has been very tough for us as well, with a lot of boat rides and a lot of money spent on fuel. We have landed only 1 salmon, and hooked 4 or 5 total. All on green echip f/f. We have found some 46 deg water in front of the north dunes in 130 down only about 70 down. Every time we go through that spot we hook up or get knocked off. We have also landed a few steelhead on free running sliders. Have run the whole gamut in my spread, but thinking about spin dr's and meat this weekend. I am also going to try a torpedo diver for the midday.I am trying to be patient waiting for them to come home, august is just around the corner and I know things are going to improve greatly soon.
  3. Great Feeling. Tells me i'm doing something right. Can't wait until the first double, Coho, Atlantic, etc. Will only get better as I learn more. Thanks to everyone on this site for posting their tips/techniques, could not have done it without ya!
  4. Got my first king ever in my own boat on the 4th. Found some cold water about 65 down over 130. Hit on a bullfrog flasher and green/white hammer fly about 25' off the ball. Lost a bigger one, tangling on my trolling bag (i'm a rookie). The cross current pulled my bag out into the action, and tangled with the fish. Marked a lot, but that was it for 2 days. It's only going to get better!
  5. Got skunked as well. Bait all over. Very disappointing as this is my first year trolling and I feel that I'm missing something. Couple knock offs for the weekend and that was it Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Try the chamberlain releases. They have a setting for the rod and the lure. Even a 1lb smallmouth tripped them with a full bend on the ugly stick Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. Same for us. 12 hours trolling, 1 little brown and lost a nice jumping steelie over 200', 20 down. we thought we were doing something wrong until we checked the posts. There's always next weekend
  8. I paid $500 at Salmon Country For a 23' W/A Down the road at Port Ontario, it is about $1750...
  9. I am at Salmon Country for the first time this year and I am very satisfied. I have a camp on Sandy Pond and am afraid I won't be able to get out of the channel this year, so i spent the extra $ to be safe. Very easy in/out, and the drive isn't bad for me. Gives me an excuse to stop for breakfast at the little salmon inn! I called them both before choosing and heard that the new guys are put in the "swamp" at Mikes, which sounded like what I was trying to get away from. Salmon Country has been great, and I have a Mercury outboard and they are a Merc certified marina, which is nice
  10. I'm goin with the 24's! Thanks. Do you still have the 24's available?
  11. Thanks for the advice. As the winds and currents shifted, I just couldn't keep it in the zone. I think the bags will be just the ticket. Maybe work on a kicker for next year...
  12. Went for the first time out in our "new to us" boat. Found the stained water in front of catfish and landed 3 browns and 1 smallmouth in 2 hours, out to 30 ft. all on bright sticks except for one big brown on an R&R spoon that was down about 8 ft over 30. I couldnt get as slow as I would like, thinking about AO bags to slow down. GPS was at about 2.8, fishhawk at the surface kept creeping up to 4.0 with the throttle all the way down. I have a 23ft walkaround, and figured the 2 18 inch bags would be enough to slow me down where I need to be...
  13. Drove to Mexico sunday and was open at the state launch.
  14. I got my first great lakes boat this year, a 23' hydra sports with a hardtop. I Love "Bout Time" and finally have something to name after many years wishing. I had "bout time" in mind, but i will keep thinking for something unique... I'm still with my first wife...
