Launch is no problem at all. The fishing today on the other hand is. Started off the pier and trolled a few miles past Wilson 80-200' water-trolling back now. One knock off- I'm struggling- should have ran straight to the bar but I didn't trust the forecast after yesterday- hope others are doing better. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -
Launched out of olcott around 7:30. Blowing good out of East. Trolled to Wilson and limped back. Caught one small king in 140' water/ dipsey/spoon. Decent picture. Got the HELL beat out of us getting back to olcott. Lake is rocking. Forecast was a bit off. Back at it tomorrow Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

The Wilson launch was fine as of Saturday as long as you had some rubber boots, if or when the water rises both docks will be under water. Watching the big blow here on Sunday from back window and I'll tell you I saw some whole trees, docks,55 gallon drums, monster logs all over the place. Slamming around in the waves. The weekend weather is not looking good but if it ends up fishable use caution out there and be safe Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -

Most Kings are in the Canadian water to the West in early spring and make there way East as spring progresses. The coho I don't have an answer for. I can never figure out while summer steelhead fishing out in the shipping lanes why I don't get more than a occasionally one. I'm curious myself if the captains who fish daily have success on them throughout the summer? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -

60-100' of water just west of Wilson - a ton of bait. Coho came on rats on inlines. All other fish came off spoons on riggers. A lot of BIG debris floating around and bring rubber boots for Wilson launch Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -

I'm with you King- lakers for garden in spring before planting season . Nasty fall kings would work fine but wrong time of year-I've been around Wilson for 45 + years. I take home as many 3-5 # spring cohoes That I can for myself- after that a couple big silver kings ( smoking/grilling and Bobs chowder). Every thing else is released or someone asks in advance for a KING and I get it when I can. No one wants lakers for table fare that I know. Everyone I know realizes they are no resource!! Apex predator eating machine, that can live forever!!! They can change the balance of this lake . Your tomato point in earlier posts about lakers burping up big tomatoes made me LMFAO- so true. Panfish and walleye are the eating fish given a choice for me personally. To each is own. Guess it depends on which end of the lake you are or if your local or someone that travels here. Good topic! How can the wanton waste law apply? I catch a lake trout that lets say is bleeding out the gill- I can throw it back and let it die, I can take it home but not eat it according to DEC or I can actually use it for something like fertilizer. Seems to me the first 2 things are wanton waste but not the third. Wanton waste is charter captains loading naive clients up with the nasty things, then they get home with them and call people like me and ask how to cook them cuz I fish out there. I bet the number of lakers thrown out from this practice is staggering!! I'm not trying to stir up trouble with anyone's profession as I'm sure some will take offense-just calling it as I see it. Fishing is about the hunt and the fight not about how full your cooler is at the end of the day. OK charters-I'm ready for the attacks Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Wilson 4/13
battlehammer replied to KilliansRed's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Got a late start this morning - set up inside around 10:00 -made 2 passes from park to small pier and did nothing. Best temp I found was 47.5 off park. Lots of really dark stained water and debris. Went out and worked 60- 80' and got on the lakers pretty good. Great to be out again and to see rods popping. Talked to a boat that went 3/10 inside on browns. Thanks for the wader info killians. Going out in the morning for first trip of the year. Watched a good number of boats working that mudline when I got to folks house in Wilson after work . Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United -
When I was younger ( 90's) we fished Dunkirk Harbor staring in March and we killed them. Almost always had the harbor to ourself. Some pretty shallow spots to watch for. We worked the wall back and forth. We would get the occasional coho also. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
