  1. I stand corrected- that had to be pretty cool! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  2. Musky and salmon live in completely different zones of any lake and competition for the same food is little to none. Salmon are open water feeders. If I ever catch a musky 90 down over 300 I will recant this post Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. As stated many times in previous posts-DEC syllabus states to eat no lake trout of size from Lake Ontario . So yes accordingly to DEC they are not good to eat. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. I'm with you King- lakers for garden in spring before planting season . Nasty fall kings would work fine but wrong time of year-I've been around Wilson for 45 + years. I take home as many 3-5 # spring cohoes That I can for myself- after that a couple big silver kings ( smoking/grilling and Bobs chowder). Every thing else is released or someone asks in advance for a KING and I get it when I can. No one wants lakers for table fare that I know. Everyone I know realizes they are no resource!! Apex predator eating machine, that can live forever!!! They can change the balance of this lake . Your tomato point in earlier posts about lakers burping up big tomatoes made me LMFAO- so true. Panfish and walleye are the eating fish given a choice for me personally. To each is own. Guess it depends on which end of the lake you are or if your local or someone that travels here. Good topic! 5. How can the wanton waste law apply? I catch a lake trout that lets say is bleeding out the gill- I can throw it back and let it die, I can take it home but not eat it according to DEC or I can actually use it for something like fertilizer. Seems to me the first 2 things are wanton waste but not the third. Wanton waste is charter captains loading naive clients up with the nasty things, then they get home with them and call people like me and ask how to cook them cuz I fish out there. I bet the number of lakers thrown out from this practice is staggering!! I'm not trying to stir up trouble with anyone's profession as I'm sure some will take offense-just calling it as I see it. Fishing is about the hunt and the fight not about how full your cooler is at the end of the day. OK charters-I'm ready for the attacks Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  6. Got a late start this morning - set up inside around 10:00 -made 2 passes from park to small pier and did nothing. Best temp I found was 47.5 off park. Lots of really dark stained water and debris. Went out and worked 60- 80' and got on the lakers pretty good. Great to be out again and to see rods popping. Talked to a boat that went 3/10 inside on browns. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  7. Thanks for the wader info killians. Going out in the morning for first trip of the year. Watched a good number of boats working that mudline when I got to folks house in Wilson after work . Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  8. When I was younger ( 90's) we fished Dunkirk Harbor staring in March and we killed them. Almost always had the harbor to ourself. Some pretty shallow spots to watch for. We worked the wall back and forth. We would get the occasional coho also. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  9. Prayers sent for your Dad- I don't fish without my father/best friend with me so I feel you. Miracles happen every day - Keep the faith !! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  11. I have never run them- looks like a potential mess to me. I don't know how many lures you can run off them but in NY I'm pretty sure it's 5 lures Per line with no more than 15 hook points Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  13. Please forward us the photos of Hilary carrying a gun or rifle in the woods. That would make one hell of a NRA commercial!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  14. X2, the only exception being if I'm catching one jack after another. Those big trebles are certain death for those little guys and are our future matures. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  15. Pretty cool front off Wilson this morning Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  16. Monster flock of swans off Wilson this week- lots of robins around. SW wind today took what little ice was floating out deep. Saw some guys fishing off the pier. Back harbor was ice coated yesterday- Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  17. X2- I match my spoons to my flies that are in my rigger mix also to start. Leader length and distance! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  18. Has anyone ever tried this? I have never seen the leader line before until I opened a cabelas saltwater catalogue that came in the mail. I like the mono premium for mainline. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  19. Lots of sound advice on here. I fished a 16' deep V when I first started fishing Ontario in the early 90's. After 3 years and the addiction kicked in my dad and I upgraded to a bigger boat.Being able to go out in rougher water is great and the fishing can be dynamite but it's not a whole lotta fun personally. I'm just a weekend warrior looking for a nice relaxing day of fish catching with friends and family. Tough to relax in bigger waves and everything is just a little tougher to do. Living where you are you have tons of options to find some quieter water as an alternative. I would look for the biggest TRAILERABLE boat you can afford and remember, Lake O can look "Doable" ( countless times have we said it's capping but doesn't look to bad as we are driving down the road )but once you hit the water it's rougher than you think- good luck with the boat purchase- you have no idea what your in for once the trolling bug takes over your every thought!! 21. Thanks for the Report Killians- hoping to take my nephew down next weekend for his first ever ice fishing trip- good luck and stay safe Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  22. Congratulations on a impressive shoot longspurs. You have things dialed in for yourself- Enjoying the pics- Been too long since we laid the smack down on a mixed bag like that. Lake O was rocking and rolling hard on the west end this AM- no way a boat was going out into it. Still seeing nothing but golden eye and Mergs braving the Wind ( from view of window of parents house) pier hunters in Wilson even stayed home! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  23. I hunt Wilson- very low numbers of goldeneye and mergansers shoreline hunting. I'm not that hungry yet-Geese are around.Did see a small flock of cans. Have not seen a bluebill or bufflehead yet??Small flocks out deep- assume long tail and scooters. Hope to take buddies sculling rig out to the deep over weekend if wind and his wife cooperate. I have not been down to the lower river- I drive along the upper river every morning to work- not seeing any numbers of birds Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
