  1. So what i have been able to figure out is I have a short somewhere. I un hooked all but the batteries and went through all positions on the switch and everything is fine. Going to hook up one thing at a time to find my short. Finally getting somewhere. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. Frogger, thats a good diagram. Thats how I have mine wired, but minus the isolator. that might explain my charge problem. From what I just read, my regulator only recognizes the highest voltage battery when on both. Thats my main. Second battery always discharges and needs a charge at home. 3. Perko8501. Power cable goes to starter, from there to the coil Alt, and trim. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. All my wires were black originally. I bought red wires for the positives to distinguish them. It was too confusing the way it was before. A lot of distribution wires are all red as well, thats why I think something is wired wrong. There are knots tied in the positives, but who knows if they are correct or not. Probably gonna have to just re wire it all. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. No, goes to power cable from the motor. A second common wire to distribution. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Muskydreams , the original setup was breaking the negatives. Second Battery was positive to the positive of the main battery. Now I have battery ground from number 2 to number 1, then to the engine. I'm either having a short backfeeding or my switch is bad. At least thats what I can tell. Why it only happens when I isolate a battery, but is fine on "both" is got me baffled. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. Thanks smallboat. Going to check it now. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. Thanks for the replies so far. Bill, I may have to take you up on that if I cant figure out whats going on. I assume there must be a short somewhere in the wiring, back feeding power.
  9. Recently I had problems with my perko switch. I watched a video from the mfg and installed it as was directed to. My original wiring had the batteries in series and the switch was just breaking grounds. Now I have battery 1positive on the #1 lug, Battery 2 positive on the number 2 lug and the common lug goes to my engine and also feeds my accesories. When I select either 1 or 2 I get a massive overpower that shorted stuff out, including my graph/chartplotter. If I stay on "Both" I am fine. Any idea why this is happening? I just went over all the wiring, but I'm not seeing anything out of place. Thank you, Jason
  10. Put some nice Brown's in the boat. 18" smallies all afternoon wasn't so bad either. Nice event! Thanks to Justin and Tracie for all their efforts. They really got something here.
  11. How deep do you plan to anchor? How much rope per ft of water. A bouy at the surface should indicate your anchored.
  12. What is the condition of the bellows? Possibly dry rot. Mine were leaking with no sign of a hole, till I got them off.
  13. Looks like Theresa and I are in. Looking forward to this. See you Wednesday Justin. Jason
  14. Yes, and I think sometimes sailboats believe they always have right of way, but forget all the other rules they must follow as a result. This has been an interesting and informative thread. Good topic.
  15. I see what your saying about "under power" , however in the situation we are talking about, (according to US rules of the road) The Sailboat is the faster boat, and shall give way to the slower boat. Second, he was overtaking another vessel and shall give way to the vessel being overtaken. And 3rd, Action to avoid collision was not observed by the sail boat. No where in the US rules of the road did I see a sailboat having the right of way. ( or the right to force his way, or course) In these particular cases, when using the quick reference guide, which I keep a copy pasted to my dash, the sailboat having right of way is second to last, after the rules I just stated. He may not be under power, but he still violated the first 3 rules, therefore he was in the wrong, in the particular case we are discussing. With that said, some simple common courtesy should be observed and we wouldn't be having this discussion. I think Justin was correct when he said all boaters must take a safety course when they purchase a boat. After what I saw 4th of july weekend, I would strongly recommend all new boaters take a safety course.
  16. To me the term under power would suggest I'm going faster than a sailboat. When we are trolling at 1 to 3 mph we are moving slower than a sailboat, in most cases. That alone gives us right of way. Slower vessel has right of way.
  17. I was looking for some Seneca reports and saw this. Any vessel, sailboat or other overtaking another vessel must stay clear of the slower vessel. Second, a vessel limited in their ability to maneuver have right away over a vessel which can maneuver freely. When I'm pulling planers and have coppers and cores as much as 600 to 800 feet behind the boat, I am limited in my ability to maneuver. Also, if he was overtaking your boat, you had right of way. There is nothing in the rules giving sailboats right of way. That is a misinterpretation of the "rules of the road"
  18. Nice job! That must have made his day. Always great to see kids fishing. They are the future of our sport.
  19. Thanks Guys .I think Pacee is now a fish monster. Yes John, we had Theresa's parents and my parents anniversary that weekend. But we will be at the Challenge the 12th. Good Luck! I here the fishing isn't all that good on Seneca.
  20. By the way Les, I know you know I love my rigs, but this was all coppers and cores. I spent some money and bought a few sets and they have really paid off. Here is a facebook link to check out some pics. https://www.facebook.com/jason.oakes.7564 Jason
  21. Recently I went fishing on Cayuga with my Dad. We had a good day fishing, but on the way in my gimble bearing started to rattle, bad. I noticed it a little before, but not this bad. No big deal except Theresa's brother and kids are here from California and I promised them a fishing trip. So yesterday I bought a gimble, and all the bellows and hose and gaskets to do the job. I never did this before and it took me 12 hrs. Theresa's brother Fred and son Pacee were here for dinner and helped me finish up the job. I couldn't have finished the job without their help. So today we go to Cayuga to "shake her down". Pacee has been fishing all his life with no luck. Even on some ocean party boat trips. The only fish he ever caught was an 18 inch laker with Theresa and I last year. We braved some rough water to do that. Today was a whole different story. Started out of Deans Cove at 630. By 650 we had our first fish in the boat and it never stopped from there. We caught a total of 27 fish and lost 4. Had 6 doubles and 3 triples. (we probably didn't log them all due to the fast pace today) Pacee boated a 10.9 laker, 4 lb landlock and several other fish. We had more fun today than I have had in a while. Rods were firing all day non stop. We couldn't go wrong today the fishing was phenomenal! This young fella was so pleased he could not stop telling me thank you. He was in his wildest dream today and so were Theresa and I to see him and his Dad have so much fun. These are the days we all continue to fish for. We had the opportunity to take them fishing and the fishing could not have been better! Tons of fun, tons of fish and tons of stories to tell. That's what keeps me, and i'm sure most of us, hooked on fishing. We were able to make this young mans day today, and we were pleased to be able to do so. Hot lures today for us, Copper Back KW Rattling lure and a new color (I'm not going to say because I will get a bunch of guys calling me for this and I'm not ready for it. Sorry, but i'm already so far behind I will not possibly be able to keep up) I will say that it was a Rattling Lure as well. Thermocline is strong north of Deans Cove.
  22. Is the FLTA tournament on Cayuga still on! And is Dean's Cove still closed?
  23. I just bought 8 new rod and reel set ups from Hills Valleys and Streams in Elmira. Okuma GLT's with 6 penn 209 reels and 2 Okuma reels for copper. They are an excellent chioce for the Fingerlakes. You can contact Mike Burt aka Iron Duke on this site and pm him about rod and reel choice. Mike is very knowledgeable and is an excellent fingerlakes fisherman. I bought my rods all set up from him and I love them! I am very pleased with their service and Mike's ability to set up rods! You cant go wrong with having them set you up.
